He was young, he was pink and he was proud of it. Even as countless creatures of all shapes, colours and sizes had teased him relentlessly for his coat...he just didn't care. He was happy and ever entertained by the simple things in life. Ever one to dodge the complicated issues, he wandered off at regular intervals and left his parents to pull their hair out in exasperation. It wasn't that he did it to deliberately upset them - he just couldn't help it. Each day when he woke up he would spot something or someone of interest. With the sudden urge to investigate he would leave the watchful and protective gaze of his parents to embark on an adventure. To say they usually ended poorly would have been the wrong assumption, rarely did the tiny foal stumble upon something that went wrong. None would begin to fathom how he did it...but in later years his closest friends would probably link it directly to his almost oblivious nature.

To call him oblivious was wrong though, he might have acted as though he knew nothing but he tended to see and hear everything. It was by choice that he chose not to speak of it, instead altering his actions in subtle manners to ensure his success. He had no need of conflict and really didn't like the idea of a violent battle through misunderstanding. As a result it was so much easier to portray someone completely unaware and wistful. Well that and the foal had already discovered it was far more entertaining and enjoyable.

He could do what he liked, how he liked...and no one minded!

Today was of no exception as he waded through the long grasses. Pink wings twitched idly, the tips just about visible as he drifted in no particular direction. Leaf firmly secured against his feathers, he was comforted by the presence of his pet even though he had lost it a few times already. It was just as well very little phased him and he could see the positive in everything. A lost leaf simply meant he had to find another 'pet' - a new addition to his family.

...It would have been of no surprise if he in later life, found another leaf and declared he had refound his first ever pet. No doubt it would cause any friend he encountered to raise a brow but this was how he liked to live his life. He might be an odd ball but no one questioned him, no one stopped him and most enjoyed his company!

Alas, even he had to admit that the tall grasses (as much as he liked their songs) made it terribly difficult for him to see. Unable to see what lay ahead of him, he could only use instinct to detect company. That and if he put a little faith in those whispers in his head then maybe they would reward as they normally did. Speaking of those whispers, they were being rather talkative this afternoon...though he couldn't really make out what any of them were saying.

The little filly had once again separated herself from her family and was currently pushing her way through the tall grasses of the plains. She had thought that the plains would be a perfect place to dance - to move her body to the soft song of the breeze and the rushing winds - but somehow the green world of summer had changed! The soft and sweet grass that she remembered earlier that year had begun to brown and, even worse, had grown incredibly tall and high. As it was, the young, blue maned and tailed unicorn found that she had absolutely no room to maneuver.

It was a jungle out there and she could only hope that she might find a bit of a clearing.

"I'm lookin', lookin', lookin' for a new place to go," she sang, her words creating a tune all her own. She wasn't the singer of the family - that would be her blue sister, Rupali - but that didn't mean the little filly couldn't at least try. She felt much more confident when it came to the art of dance, allowing her every step and every move to be full of grace and rhythm, but such a thing was near impossible now! She just couldn't move with tall grasses surrounding her so the art of song would have to suffice.

"And you're searchin', searchin' searchin' for somewhere to call home," she crinkled her nose a bit as only too late she realized that go and home weren't exactly the best choice. They didn't rhyme but such was the way the lyrics unfolded; twas too late to go back and change them now so all Zara could do was continue in her song.

"Ooooooh, can't you tell me, oooooooh, can't you show me; ooooooooh, can't you give me something pleeeeeeeease. . . . . Let's be wild, let's live life, and let's be free!" Her songs were starting to mature as she aged, moving away from silly songs of make believe and beginning to broach subjects she still didn't entirely understand.

Perhaps with a little time she'd make a grand lyricist but for now it still didn't occur that she might be .

Zara wasn't nearly as small as some of the more new born sorts of foals but she was still far too young to be looked upon as an adult. There were small things that separated her from hanging out with the 'babies' but she couldn't exactly go off all alone herself either! Such a cruel place to be within the world, unable to be grown up and yet still too small to even pretend to be big.

Like many a foal all she wanted to do was grow up and be a proper princess and go on proper princess adventures. A shame that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

So intent was Zara pushing and nosing her way through the tall grasses she completely overlooked the pink creature making a bee-line for her path. She heard shuffling but assumed it to be her own cloven hooves and little tail rubbing up against the grasses surrounding her. Every now and then though the little filly paused to n** at her sides and toss a dirty look at the weeds surrounding her. "There's no need to be so pushy, I'm just passing through!" Her little voice objected, all song and spirit deflating as she struggled through.

The sooner she found a good clearing the better. . . . As good a hiding spot as the tall grasses were, Zara wasn't particularly appreciative of the way the plants tickled and tugged upon her mane.

Maybe she should have stayed home with Rupali and Miki today; Papa was going to be angry angry with how disheveled she was fast becoming! Such discourse wasn't a very lady-like thing to do!

Arguably, her words had all but shattered his concentration and it was no wonder he couldn't understand what the voices said. She wasn't exactly tone deaf, but her voice did waver and wasn't as strong as that of a traditional singers. He wasn't one to insult and thus, simply assumed that it was because she was so young that she sounded this way. Perhaps when she had matured, her vocal chords would be so honed that she would rival the songs of even the birds. However, nothing could rival his good natured pet for clarity of voice...if he was so bold as to claim.

Alas, though he could hear the young filly he couldn't yet see her. Pale eyes flicked up briefly to inspect the height of the grasses before he released a bemused sigh. He liked games and enjoyed puzzles even more. He savoured the opportunity to exercise his mine, but teasing him with giggles and song from a being he couldn't see could only go so far! His inquisitive nature wouldn't allow it to go undiscovered for much longer. That being said though, he was in no way inclined to plunge through the grasses in a rather clumsy fashion. After all, this could be mistaken for a predator and this odd creature would disappear.

He couldn't allow it.

Nuh uh - no way.

Thus, it was with an apologetic glance to the his harmonic grasses that he unfurled his wings. Retrieving his leaf from the feathers, he held it in his mouth and gave a snort. A little shake of his head to clear his vision, a little flick of his tail to the side and he was ready. With a small giggle and a 'tally-ho!' in the depths of his mind he beat his wings and bounced into the air. He'd given such an almighty stroke of these wings that he cleared a significant amount of ground and sure enough he could see the owner of the voice not far away.

A soquili!

His eyes widened in delight and with another beat of his rather large wings he thrust himself forward. Granted, his movements were somewhat jolted and erratic given the lack of wind or air currents but at least he was able to keep sight of her. A crash landing would be evident shortly...but he'd work round that little issue when he came to it. Alas, unable to speak out or call for the little filly, he could do nothing more than hope that either she could hear voices too...or she could hear him approaching.

It wasn't as if he was quiet - the very fact that he was struggling to stay afloat in the most horrendous conditions was making plenty of racket. Beating wings against virtually thin air were exceptionally loud, especially when the wings were so big...

The little filly paused in her song as the sound of something caught her ears. Pink eyes went wide for a moment, the cogs of her mind churning to discover exactly what it was she was hearing - the grasses weren't being parted by a form, but she seemed to hear the sweeping of . . . .feathers? Was that it? Surprise switched to concentration, her brows knitting together as she tried to locate the source but to no avail - she was far too small and the fall grasses were far too tall. . . .

All she could see was the blue sky and the brown weed and . . .

Pink.

Or something that looked like a soquili that was floating! And not just floating but flying! The intricate patterned filly temporarily forgot her manners as she stared up at Zhu, having never witness a foals flight. Sure, she knew of wind and kalona types, had heard and memorized many a story that involved those gifted with wings. . . but never had she actually watched a little colt flutter awkwardly above the grasses. Pink eyes glowed with delight as a smile crossed her features, a giggle escaping her maw as she reared up to get a better look. It was a horrible unlady like thing to do but it wasn't easy craning her neck up to stare.

Strange how the cream soquili had wings and a unicorn tail. . . but no horn graced his features. What a pity . . . . Here was yet another aquaintence her papa wouldn't like her socializing with. A shame there weren't more unicorn foals hobbling around - outside of Melancholy, all her friends were other races and ones she had to keep secret. Jaslyn wouldn't mind, of course, nor would her sisters, but Zara had always aimed to please her beloved father. Furthermore, she was trouble enough by constantly running off and going on unlady like adventures that she really didn't need to add any more fuel to that fire.

Dropping down, she gave one last little hop in a circle, attempting to see over the tall grasses to make sure Baldev and Jaslyn weren't to be seen. From what little she could tell, it looked as if she were safe. "You don't see a big blue unicorn anywhere, do you?" She question, chirping her question happily up at the struggling colt.

He sure didn't fly good. . . . but the same could be said about her singing.

It wasn't that Zhu was a poor flier, the complex climate in which he needed to remain airbourne simply wasn't there. The soft currents that kept him afloat weren't present at such a low altitude and as a result he simply couldn't skim the grasses with any ease. Even an adult would struggle in the given situation - there was a reason adults galloped forward and threw themselves as high into the air as they could! A creature flying at this altitude resembled more of a stumbling drunk then any type of graceful avian... It was unfortunate but it was something the colt had come to realise.

Alas, he had his reasons for looking like such an idiot. It was the only way for his tiny self to see above the grasses. More to the point, it was the only way to introduce himself without being mistaken for a monster. He hadn't come trouncing through the grasses like a clumsy lion - on the contrary, he had skimmed the grasses (albeit jerkily) until he had come into her line of sight. What he hadn't expected upon approach was to be addressed though, nor had he expected to be asked such a strange question.

A blue soquili?

Zhu glanced around briefly as he continued in his approach, though after a few moments he was reasonably certain that there were no 'big blue unicorns' nearby. His dad definitely wasn't blue, he was certain of that much! That being said, Zhu's father wasn't in the immediate area given that the Indianna Jones Wannabe had slipped out from under his parents' watchful gaze to locate more pets and more fun. So far he hadn't found anymore suitable pets to accompany him and his leaf, but at the very least...

Ahhh...

There it was.

His wings began to ache and their beats became more sporadic as he struggled against the lack of support in the air. Tired from the strain, it wasn't long before the little colt lost his will to fly and quickly plunged into the grasses nearby. With a flurry of pink limbs and a 'poof' of feathers, he landed with a muffled thump. A flurry of activity could be heard as the colt squirmed against the grasses, located his little leaf and readjusted himself. Pet now snuggly placed in his wing again he pushed his way through the last remaining grasses towards the filly.

Head first, he thrust it out to inspect the filly for a short while before grinning. "No, no big blue unicorns," he confirmed in a soft voice. It was clear from this point that Zhu didn't speak particularly loud but he didn't whisper either. His voice held a surprisingly amount of clarity even at his age, but then again given his heritage this was unsurprising. His father could shout and still sound polite about it which was definitely an odd thing to witness.

"Why is it dangerous?" he enquired curiously, finally pulling himself away from the grasses with a shake. His lion tail coiled around his leg following this and his smile deepened. She certainly had very peculiar markings, ornate and yet understated against her almost metallic coat. Really his little pink coat paled in comparison to hers but he wasn't one who possessed an inferiority complex, he simply accepted her unusual appearance.

"You were the one who was singing, yes...?"

((Wow, after months and months. . . x_x; ))

"Not dangerous," Zara quickly clarified, giving her blue tufted tail a little swish while a polite smile crossed her features. "But it might mean trouble for me. My father is rather strict on whom he allows his daughters to socialize with. . . . but I think I've escaped his eye, for now," she added with a mischievious giggle.

Though her mother had been a gypsy, and though her father ruled with a heavy hoof and stern rules, there were some rules that Zara just couldn't keep. She refused to stay near at all times, and was frequently getting herself in trouble and disappointing her father with her rebellious nature. Oh, she was no hellion, but in a world as strict as Zara's even the smallest offense meant great consequence.

How was she supposed to grow up great if she continued to rebel?

Ah, but Zara was a spirited filly and she would yield to no one. The more rules that were placed upon her head, the more allure she felt to break them. Today was one of those days - having eluded the watchful and protective eyes of her father and mother, the little one was too small to be easily seen in the grasses. Even with Zhu fluttering overhead!

Heaving a small sigh in relief, her smile grew as she studied the odd one before her. His race still thoroughly confused her; part unicorn, surely, but part wind as well. And what was with the little wings on his feet? He certainly looked to have walked out of some story from someones imagination!

Remembering her manners, albeit too late, Zara dipped down and offered Zhu a deep bow. "I was indeed the one singing," she admitted, feeling her nose flush a deeper shade of pink. "But I know my voice is weak." She hated admitting such a thing but mastering the voice was her sisters affair, not her own. . . . She could sing in private but it wasn't so much fair to do so publicly; shame on her for disturbing those around her. "I'm Zara," she finally added with another grin and a swish of her tail.

"A pleasure to meet you, Friend Zara" The colt replied, abruptly ceasing in his struggles to remain afloat. He immediately dropped into the grasses and with surprising grace, caught his steps and regained his composure almost immediately. With the grace of both his mother and father behind him, he was not one who lacked in prowess when it came to how he carried himself. Still young, but old enough to mimick the posture of his father, he had long since mastered the art of walking with light footed, yet purposeful grace. Alas he made no attempts to introduce himself as though his name lacked importance or seemed somehow irrelevant to the conversation.

According to how he had addressed her and his otherwise amiable expression it appeared he had no preference. Content in his own ways, he permitted others to make their own decisions. They could call it what they desired, they could simply refer to him as 'you there' and there was a good chance that he would recognise that they were referring to him. An odd one, though not troubled by this - he had no complaints and preferred that others received what they wanted.

...Had one known the workings on his mind, they would have realised he was much more mature for his age than others.

Nevertheless, while he was not one to question the parenting skills of another set of soquili, he could express gratitude to his own parents for respecting his decisions. He was a wanderer and was aware that his home would always remain, but his level of spirituality was far beyond that of his parents to the extent that his father had permitted Zhu to make his decision - he was permitted to wander. That being said until he reached adulthood he was limited to the confines of the lowlands...though this in itself was a big place for one of his size.

"Your voice though, Friend Zara..." he began slowly, his tone soothing as he furled his wings against his sides and considered her words for a short while. "It is not weak, it is young and has not yet had the opportunity to mature to that of a song bird," he pointed out. He hadn't deliberately reassured her and had merely drawn conclusions based on what he had heard prior to encountering her. Her voice might have wavered but as age crept up on a creature the voice cracked again and left something entirely new in it's wake!

"In time I suspect the spirits will bless you with a new voice and you will no longer waver, when that time comes we shall sing together - yes?" he offered with a smile.
