I didn't think people who shared our life path smoked and such. But today i was in Sevenanda, local organic grocery store, picking up some things. When i was leaving, there were 2 girls my age lighting up, after just buying organic food with their jute shopping bags =O
So that makes me curious...do any of you guys smoke?

I don't smoke.
I come from a family of heavy smokers and growing up always smelling like smoke at school was no fun. Then always hearing everyone who smokes complain how they want to quit...it's just not worth it to me.
I pisses me off when I see kids smoke. When I worked at Kinkos, there were these 2 boys who'd smoke the butts that were in the trash! It was so disgusting! I cant believe how stupid they were and not realizing they could get all sorts of diseases.

My mother smokes. She explained to me how she fell into the trap when she was young. She's tried several times to quit, but it's never really worked out for her in the long-term. It also does help her keep her mood stabilized, so... yeah. She did tell me never to start - and seeing how she's never been able to quit, I can see why.
So, nope, I don't smoke.

I used to. I quit 4 years ago, I thought I was going to die. I smoked for 28 years (started at 14), and for the last several, I was a very heavy smoker, I was up to 4 packs a day, at the end. I had tried dozens of times to quit, and failed. Several factors went into pushing me to finally (really) quit. It had got to the point I could not walk across my living room without stopping to rest and catch my breath. My daughter and 1 yr old grand son were moving up from Texas, and in with us. I was diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). All of those combined plus my Mama died from bladder cancer, which is known to be common in heaver smokers, finally convinced me. My husband quit too, that helped, because I don't think I could have done it alone.
I will tell EVERYONE that smokes, IF I CAN QUIT, ANYONE CAN.

She quit for a year when we had my young nephew living with us, but as soon as he went back to his father she started again =/ She says she feels more relaxed when she smokes n.n

I will tell EVERYONE that smokes, IF I CAN QUIT, ANYONE CAN. Congrats for quitting! Oh it's totally hard for someone to quit, while the other person keeps smoking. I believe that's my parent's problem. If they would just suck up and quit together and support each other then they'll quit once and for all. My brother said he wouldn't have been able to quit if his wife smoked. My sister....well, she's not quitting because her boyfriend smokes. Even though he has bad asthma and has been in the ER twice for bad bronchitis. Durr!

Thanks everyone. biggrin I wish everybody could/would quit.
Even after 4 years, if I walk through someones smoke (outside a restaurant etc...) I still want one. I sometimes wake up at night and reach for one. So I know it is hard to stick with it, much less trying to quit while someone is still doing it around you constantly.
I think the main rule to quitting successfully, is "You Have To Want To Do It For Yourself"

A few of my reletives smoke but in general, my family isn't big on smoking. I made a personal vow for myself to never smoke or consume alcohol. In fact, when I was really sick my mom bought this medicine but I refused to take it 'cus it had a form of alcohol in it..lol. sweatdrop Anyways, smoking + asthma = dead so no way for me! Plus some people get asthma from smoking and then they complain about it and it pisses me off.

I smoke maybe once a month or so, when nothing else is working to relax me. Even then I'm more likely to make a tobacco tea than actually light up >.>
But habit-smoking is just silly. My mother has smoked for 37 years, and seven years ago she quit for three months. The nicotine addiction isn't what got her back, it was the simple habit of having to have a cigarette in her hands. If she doesn't have one she's a nervous wreck and can't get her mind off of it. Half the time she'll light a cigarette and just hold it there letting it burn up without even taking a drag stressed

My sister, who is a super vegan, smokes. She's the last one you'd expect to but she does and she knows all the health consequences and such. I view as any other substance that's addicting, and that's what it is an addiction. You can be educated but once you're caught it's the same cycle.
Personally, I don't smoke. My mom's been trying to quit for years but whenever things get too stressful she falls back into the habit.

I definitely don't smoke. My parents raised me not to, but some of the older people in my family do. My grandparents managed to quit cold. They might have craved for smoking, but I don't know. I DO know, however, that after many, many years of smoking, they listened to my mom and quit when I was little.
I don't think nicotine is supposed to be that addicting. The first thing is to never start smoking, because it'll make you begin to think that it relaxes you. All smoking does is give you bad breath, bad teeth, and bad lungs. >_< At least illegal drugs make you feel all euphoric for a while... until it ruins your life that is...

all kinds of people smoke, you can't generalize and say everyone who eats organic or something like that don't smoke.
i don't smoke cigarettes, but i do smoke weed. i honestly don't see anything bad about it. and, it is organic.

I don't see smoking cigarettes and smoking weed as the same thing. Weed I see being more natural (of course depending where you get it) and cigs are just filled with nasty manmade chemicals.

Im not stereotyping, but when you buy organic food it means you generally care about your body, why else would you spend the extra money? Smoking means One might as well just not buy organic food, they might as well eat meat pumped with hormones, and fruit sprayed with pesticides.
