It had been a month or so since Norman came into the dorm and turned Scy's world upside. There had also been some shaking involved. (Understatement of the year. It was more like a major earthquake. Quite frankly, the youth was slightly shocked a tsunami hadn't come to completely annihilate anything left.) And Scyeth had been left to deal with the blow. There was a lot of self-speeches. But the blond was getting there.

Kind of.

And then the Headmaster had called Scyeth to his office. It didn't send the shot of fear rushing through his veins the way it used to. Hell. After getting the news your father had been murdered, there was little else that could phase you. He was stuck here now. What did he have to lose? What did he have left to lose? So, dwelling on these less-than-pleasant thoughts, the blond waltzed his way into the Headmaster's office like he owned the place.

At least he had the spring in his step.

...wait.

"Cookie dough?"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 28, 2008 8:57 am

"Cookie dough," Norman agreed, smiling. One corner of his office was full of ingredients for the purpose of making cookie dough. The Headmaster himself had a bowl in his arms, his dress shirt unbuttoned at the cuffs and rolled to his elbows, his vest yet unmarred by the contents. Using his free hand, he plucked his monocle from his vest pocket and replaced it over a dark blue eye, fixing his gaze on the young blonde. "Good day to you, Mr. Akazar."

He walked back to his desk, putting the bowl down on its surface, turning to face Scyeth with another smile. "Thank you for coming. I thought you might like to try your hand at something new. Are you up for it?" Norman leaned against the desk, hands clasping the edge of it as he watched the Aussie. While he was anticipating a positive response for 'something new,' he was not expecting all to go over well with the real aspect of it.

The Headmaster might be an old man, but he had a few tricks up his sleeves.

Scyeth's bright blue eyes widened as he worked his jaw and took in the scene. The Headmaster looked like some domestic...domestic...mother, or something! The blond shook his head and snorted, an action similar to any defiant colt. This might not be trouble, or bad news, but the Aussie already had a feeling about it. "You want me to help you make cookies?" he muttered, shaking his head.

What did he look like, a five-year-old girl? What was this supposed to be, anyways?

Scyeth finally looked back up at the Headmaster, scowling. "Is this some kind of joke?" he rumbled, pushing the door shut behind him with a foot. He stuffed his hands into his uniform pockets and shook his head. Oh, he'd show Norman what he thought of his joke- Was this supposed to be some kind of bonding experience?

The demon choked on the thought and gave Norman a new, wide-eyed look.

"What are you up to, old man?"

An amused chuckle escaped him. "Is an old man not allowed to enjoy his sweets? Come now, tea and cookies are a delightful past time." Norman pushed off of the desk, returning to the ingredients with a good-humored smile, setting the small make-shift oven to preheat. "It's cooking," he said at length, turning to look at the blonde with quiet amusement. "Have you cooked before? Do you intend to have meals brought to you out in the wild?" His words were not cruel or demeaning, asked in a perfect curiosity. If Scyeth thought that's how things worked, there'd be some rude awakenings ahead.

"I enjoy cookies," he continued onwards, plucking a towel from a near by sink and wiping his hands. "We all have little things that we enjoy, do we not?" His dark eyes were aglow with what could have been considered mischief, if not for his kind smile. "Might I call you by your first name, Mr. Akazar? I'd prefer we be a little more friendly in this visit, less of a status between us, if you please." Resting the towel over his shoulder - likely only lending to the domesticated look - he approached the young man, stopping a short ways with raised brows, "You are uninterested, then?"

Scyeth did not give up his suspicious look, but did not argue as Norman chattered like an old biddy. Okay, maybe that was a little harsh. But he still wasn't very interested (unless he got to eat the cookies, in which case, he was way more interested than he cared to admit). Wait, what? "No. And no!" Scyeth scoffed, something rumbling in his chest as he felt his cheeks heat a little.

Boy. Talking about going for the Achilles heel.

"Ah, you can call me Scyeth." He shrugged. That was no big deal. The blond tipped his head head to the side, sniffing a little as he observed the Headmaster. "But what am I supposed to call you? Norman?" the Aussie asked, feeling bolder than he should. The word felt heavy on his tongue. Not entirely wrong, but very strange all the same.

Scyeth shifted and gave Norman the famous Cheshire cat grin.

"Is it a challenge?"

Norman smiled, lifting a single brow. "I dare say 'Norman' is an improvement over 'old man,'" he commented off-handedly, nodding his gratitude at the youth's permission to address him by his first name. "I don't mind names or titles when I'm being addressed - it's all manners and politeness, so the lack thereof does not bother me." Another thoughtful smile and the Headmaster was returning to the cooking area, looking over the items for possibly the ump-teenth time. He considered the blonde's words, looking over his shoulder slightly before speaking in a lofty, almost disinterested voice.

"Nathaniel made wonderful cookies, I'm sure he wouldn't mind going this for me again if you aren't up for it."

Scyeth snorted, lifting his chin. "'Old Man' is supposed to be some sort of term of endearment, or something. I dunno. You're the one who's supposed to know things," the teenager retorted, quickly turning his fault into the Headmaster's. Before he had another chance to fire off his mouth, Norman (unwittingly or not, it may never be known) threw down the proverbial gauntlet and Scyeth saw red.

Oh no he didn't!

"Give me the damn batter and the instructions and s**t. I'll make the best damn cookies you've ever seen!"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:42 am

The older man chuckled with amusement, not bothering to correct the student. True, it could be an endearment, but only if it was said with the intention of it to mean as much. In fact, the Headmaster had to refrain from laughing as the blonde was suddenly all fire and self-righteous wrath, seeing that his little game had worked. Norman was pleased that Scyeth was one to rise to and meet a challenge no matter if it wasn't his cup of tea.

He returned to the cooking area, holding up the paper and motioning to the ingredients. "I'm sure they'll look appetizing," he agreed with another twinkle in his eye, "but it's the taste that'll convince me. I've no doubt in your abilities, Scyeth." The Headmaster made a mental note to lay out more towels next time, as he wasn't sure his office would be able to survive Hurricane Akazar.

Scyeth snorted again, much like a fire-breathing dragon in fairy tales. What was the Headmaster thinking, challenging him like such? Of course, he had never made cookies before, but how hard could following the instructions be? Speaking of, what did they say to do first?

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Pfft. Easy. The blond storm whirled around and clicked the knob, setting it to the instructed mark. Now, time to mix the dry ingredients? Yeah. Scyeth set about mixing flower and baking powder and the touch of salt and what not. Jeez, anybody could do this. No wonder Nat had such an easy time!

"See?" he asked, puffing out much like a bird with ruffled feathers. "Easy as pie."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 16, 2008 9:49 am

"Pie is actually very difficult to create," he replied loftily, walking up slowly behind Scyeth and observing the tsunami of ingredients. Norman chuckled softly, putting a hand on Scyeth's shoulder. "Easy, Akazar. It's not as simple as throwing together what's required and running with it. You have to give the ingredients time to blend, to rise, or the cookies will taste like cardboard even if you do all the obvious instructions." Another twinkle in his eye might have indicated the discussion wasn't only about pastries. "You never struck me as the type to follow the safe, normal path, or will the cookies prove me wrong?"

The Headmaster almost cracked a grin, turning towards the cupboards and pulling out a few random spices and flavors, from nutmeg to cinnamon, to ground orange peel to mint extract. "You have to make it unique or it's just cookies. Nathaniel was very methodical, making sure the dough was just right and adding his own pinch of flair into the creations - not that I expect the exact same of you, Scyeth," he glanced over to the blonde with another vague smile, "but rushing wont get us anywhere. Unless you're that eager to be done, in which case, you need not trouble yourself. Even an old man like me can follow instructions."

Another challenge? Maybe, but that would be up to the fiesty blonde to interpret.

Yeah, yeah, whatever about your silly baking terms. Doings. Whatever. The blond pushed his hair behind his ears and snorted, puffing up even further (if that was even possible). "What are you talkin' about?" Scyeth ground out, suddenly feeling incredibly stressed out about the entire thing. Oh, now he had to make it impressive? He'd never baked a thing in his life, how was he supposed spice it up?

The feisty blond ground his teeth, eyes flashing dark when Norman dared compare him to Nat. "Well, I have a plan," he huffed, setting his flour mixture a side so he might start working on the wet ingredients. "A good plan," he insisted. "I'll make the chocolate chip cookies interesting." Wet ingredients mixed, he grabbed the bowl of flour and added it slowly. Then he grabbed the mixer and turned it on-

FLOOF!

Scyeth coughed and flailed, suddenly coated in a thin layer of powder. He stared at the bowl accusingly before shaking himself like a dog.

"That could have gone better, I think."

It started as a slow trickling sound and errupted into something richer and deep, pulled from his stomach; Norman was laughing.

It wasn't cruel laughter, not even aimed at Scyeth as much as it was at the situation. The Headmaster laughed in earnest, taking off his monocle to wipe off a small bit of cookie ingredients that had splattered it, dark blue eyes tearing with mirth, face lined with smile lines that had long since been ingrained into him. Taking the kerchief out of his pocket, the man dabbed his eyes and replaced the glass piece, managing his laughter down to a sizeable chuckle. He offered the kerchief to the student, even if the small piece of cloth wouldn't be able to do much to help the coated teen.

"An A+ for making things interesting, Scyeth!"

Scyeth glowered and continued to brush powdery white out of his hair. "Didn't I tell you I'd make it interesting?" he ground out, blue eyes narrow as he re-mixed a new set of dry ingredients, careful not to send them flying in his face this time. Of course, that wasn't what he had in mind, but saving face was important. Especially when dealing with a politician. His father was one, after all, and even if he wasn't particularly fond of them (to say the least), he knew how to handle them.

Now.

Scyeth divided the cookie dough into four sections and then began rummaging through chocolate and ingredient choices. Essence of raspberry and white chocolate chips here, orange extract and dark chocolate chunks here, mint flavoring and milk chocolate for the third. But what to do for the fourth? Well, nothing could beat the original. Chocolate chips and a little cinnamon, to 'shake things up'.

Scyeth huffed to himself and began to divvy up the dough onto the trays. "How's that for interesting?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 20, 2008 12:53 pm

Norman gave a slight tip of his head in a nod. "I'd certainly call it...interesting," he smiled, tucking his refused hanky back into his vest pocket. The Headmaster watched, mirth still making his eyes a vibrant blue, hands tucked behind his back so as to be unobtrusive. It seemed his special student and adopted son of sorts had some anger issues he had yet to work out, judging by the way the dough was being mauled within an inch of recognition. Who needed egg beaters when you had an angry demon on your hands?

"Scyeth," he started off randomly, "other than choosing to study at your leisure in your dorm room, what else do you do for fun?" He hadn't had any accident reports for a while about a certain blonde and an errant skateboard, and would have been lying to say he wasn't a little concerned to see what the teen had taken up as a hobby this time.

Scyeth continued to mutilate his dough, adding flavors and chocolates as he so deemed. He gathered the trays (and actually remembered to grease them), and remained mostly silently as he scooped wads of cookie dough onto the pans, only pausing momentarily when Norman struck up conversation again. He tipped his head to the side and considered only breifly, never ceasing his motion.

"I don't do anything for fun," the blond answered bluntly. His skateboard had been indefinitely retired and he hadn't attempted to pick out a new hobby since. Of course, he still worked out, but that wasn't exactly fun. Yes, he enjoyed it, but it was more a necessity than it was a pleasure. That was the only way he could focus on any studying at all; he needed to do at least two things at once. (Perhaps he should invest in a set of headphones.)

"...yeah. I don't do anything for fun."
