Here, paths lead around a large, decorative fountain. There are gardens well-kept all year round, and at night all is lit with a warm glow from old-style lamplights.

Lorelee and richard finally made it to the park where the fountains were all aglow with their nightly splendor. The flowers had closed for the time being, but everything seemed so fresh and sleeping within the hazy glow of the lamps. "I've always been scared to come here on my own at night," she confided in him. Honestly she wasn't sure how she hadn't been attacked at all in her life. It was like there was a guardian angel with her always, only then Richard was quite real.

"It's beautiful..." He agreed, though he was looking directly at Lorelee lovingly. "I don't think I've ever been here myself..." he noted as well. Enty had followed, but lagged far behind, wanting Richard to make a move before it got too late.

Lorelee nearly skipped over to the large fountain. There were three large sprays coming from the center where a sculpture of spinning, winding silver metals seemed to rise from the mist. She lightly stepped up on top of the wall holding back the water, and began walking with her arms spread out like wings. "How long have you been on Veratia, Richard?"

Richard instinctively followed her, his hands in his pockets, strolling along beside her. "Well...I was actually born here...This is were I was raised, this is where my father died, where I went to school, where I got marr-" He stopped short, avoiding some of the memories here. "But, ahem..." He coughed a little to change the subject somehow. "I left here right after I resigned from the force. I've just been traveling around when I met Enty who joined me....I just recently came back to this place after swearing I wouldn't...but when you need a new engine and Veratia is the nearest planet..." He shrugged.

"Well, I'm glad you did come back." There was a distinctive joy in her voice that couldn't be missed. Once she almost lost her balance, leaning precariously towards Richard, but she righted herself before anything could happen. Eventually, she hopped off, landing gently as her dress billowed out slightly. "It's nice to have someone to talk to who won't yell at me or think I'm not worth their time."

"Who ever thinks that of you is a blind, mindless idiot..." He noted as if it were a common fact. He seemed to think a moment before speaking again. "Why have you been here so long? Why not go out and make a living for yourself that wouldn't include lowering yourself so much?" He asked, not being able to comprehend how such a lovely woman like her could work as a maid.

With a sigh, Lorelee walked ahead, head tilted up to look at the stars. "When you're brought up in the slums, with barely enough money to live on, you can't really do anything that doesn't lower yourself. People think you're a thief, or a drug dealer, or something silly like that. You must have heard Damian, how he always tried to make me beg for a higher position by doing him 'favors'." Her voice took on a level of disgust when she talked about him. "It's not fair. But it's just life."

Richard was about to protest when something made a noise up ahead. He quickened his pace to get next to Lorelee, placing a hand on her shoulder. Out of the dark, it seemed, came a dark looking man in a large coat that hid his face. "How are you folks tonight?" A sinister sounding voice came from the stranger. Richard took a step forward, gently but firmly pushing Lorelee behind him. "Can we help you?" Richard asked in return, not having a good feeling about this. The man stepped forward, and leaned to the side as if to get a look at Lorelee. He took a few more, unbalanced steps forward and smiled a grim, toothy smile. In fact that was all you could see. "My, you're a pretty little thing...a girl like you could make a lot of money, if you catch my drift..." He seemed to be smirking as he spoke though most of his face was still hidden. Richard observed the man carefully. He didn't seem to be in his right mind. He tightened his grip on Lorelee defensively as he took a step back.

Lorelee's heart was beginning to race. She took a step back, though his grip was becoming a bit too tight. If Richard was nervous then she had every right to be downright terrified.
"Not interested," she said carefully, noting his movements.

The man didn't seem to like that and he took another step forward. "Now come on doll face, an uptight lookin' guy like this can't be treating you that good..." He reached out to grab Lorelee. "I can show you a good time..." But before he could lay one finger on her, Richard swung his fist around, striking him right on the nose. The stranger stumbled back, shocked more than anything. Though once he caught his balance, he grew angry at the sight of his own blood. "Why you son of a..." He ran towards Richard, tackling him to the ground. While he had him pinned, he inflicted blow after blow to his face and head, blood flying every which way. Richard finally was able to get a hold of himself and some how lifted him off the ground with newfound strength. The man went rolling a few yards away as Richard stood quickly, spitting the blood from his mouth. He stood in a defensive stance, bouncing back from foot to foot, in a boxing manner. The man stood and wiped his mouth before stupidly running at Richard again. Though he was ready and as his opponent approached, Richard ducked out and gave him one hard, swift blow to the back of the head. The man fell to his knees where Richard grabbed him by the rough of his neck, lifting him up to eye level. "Get the hell out of here before I teach you a lesson about how it feels like to have you're appendages ripped off and fed to you...." He growled roughly as he threw him down again. the man seemed to finally get the hint for he scatted away in fear. Richard stood erect and strong for a moment more before his knees buckled, sending him to a sitting position on the floor. he breathed heavily. "I've lost my touch..." he breathed, grimacing as he cracked his nose back into place. He looked back to Lorelee with a weak smile. "Are you alright?" He asked.

She was staring at him with tears in her eyes, not to mention she was shaking terribly. "Y-you're bleeding everywhere!" Having nothing in her pockets to wipe away all the blood, she settled for the hat on her head. Lorelee dipped it in the cool waters of the fountain and brought it over to him, kneeling down by his side cooing soft little comforts. "Look at you... how many times are you going to get into a fight today?" Being as careful as she could, Lorelee began wiping the blood off his lips and cheeks.

Richard cringed t first but then gave in as the cool water began to pour over his wounds. His left eye started to swell as well as darken a tad. "Oh, it's nothing I can't handle..." He smiled charmingly even though the blood. He flinched again when she got to his eye and impulsively grabbed her hand to pull it away. But he didn't let go even when the pain subsided. It may have been the blood loss, but she looked stunning. ecspecially with the light reflecting off her hair and the tears in her eyes. Richard had an impulse to lean in and kiss her there, but realized he must be dreadfully unattractive at the moment.

Lorelee looked into his eyes for a moment. Such a gallant man, to charge headfirst into a fight to keep her safe... She kept holding onto his hand while using her free to clean up the rest of his face. Only once did she go back to the fountain to rinse out her hat and come back with more cool water, all the while trying not to cry for him.
"Your eye's all puffy now..." Lorelee whispered to him when she could clearly see everything. "Your whole face is swelling." The hat was set against the affected eye for a moment, during which Lorelee leaned in to kiss the cheek underneath. Just doing so sent a small shock through her, but it felt right. He deserved a kiss after all he had done for her.

Richard jumped slightly at the touch of her lips on his skin. But he ended up just smiling and blushing a bright red, his eyes anywhere but on her. He seemed to chuckle a bit to himself, He took he both hands now, leaning back still not able to look at her. "I'm sorry...I just realized that around you I'm acting like the scared little boy I was in my teens...." He blushed an even brighter red, rubbing the back of his neck like he usually did when nervous.
