Here you can find a list of 10 sci-fi movies that deserve to be made, but the appearance of Starcraft and Halo on the list sparked my interest. Should there be other video games that deserve movies?
I'd start off...
A Resident Evil based on the gamesOkay, the original movie and Apocalypse were good movies, but after playing Resident Evil 4, it is clear that a single, super-human protagonist was a poor choice. Not to mention the extinction of the human race. The mansion could have been a good start, Resident Evils 2 and 3 would have been good as a single movie, and added the back story for Resident Evil 4, which has it's own lines for Leon, but tickles your back ear with signs that there is a lot going on behind the scenes.
Dead RisingSo maybe the Zombie Mall Movie genre has been done, but having a really good zombie movie would be a good thing. The Resident Evil movies moved from zombies being the enemies to, as said before, a super-human character fighting an evil corporation. Frank is simple, and a Dead Rising movie would have plenty of comedy aspects (cue zombie bowling sequence). No horror. Just action and comedy and many notes about Otis being pushy with communications.
Splinter CellNot a lot of depth, but with all the other Tom Clancy movies, why not give Sam Fisher a chance? He's a super-spy/super-stealth character that officially "does not exists", and you can place him behind the scene of world events while filling the rest of the story with old-fashioned brink of war suspense.
God of War (prequel?)Kratos is one of the manliest figures ever, and it's time for a good movie about Greek mythology. The modern twist is enough to justify changing the gods and stories a little bit while letting Kratos go on a violent rampage. Shallow, yes, but 300 and Crank did ok, too.
Assassin's CreedI think that the only thing bad about this game was the repetitive gameplay. Outside of that, the story was good. On one hand, we're exploring genetic memories for "something", while Desmond and the audience get close to Altair in a biblical/crusade story. It could have action and suspense, as well as a few "bad video game moments" to make the audience chuckle.
Half-LifeWith Hugh Laurie as Gordon Freeman. End. of. Story.
Soul CaliburSo maybe the fighting game/movie has been done (MK), but Soul Calibur is comprised of many smaller stories that a movie could flesh out, such as Sigfried's conflict with the Soul Edge, turning him into Nightmare. Every character falls between salvation and redemption, and if you write in that characters have to fight for the Soul Calibur, you end up with a bit of mystery and suspense about who will be saved and who will be damned.
