Death Note is a 37 episode anime series based on the manga series of the same title.
The manga series was written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Ibata(Hikaru no Go).
The series revolves around the bored, high school genius, Raito Yagami who finds a supernatural notebook, which has the power to kill any human as long as they know their name and face. He soon uses this power to kill criminals in hopes of becoming God of the New World. Soon, the police start to recognize that all these criminals dying of heart attacks are not a coincidence. L, the greatest detective of the century joins the police in hopes of stopping Kira. So the whole series is about the battle between Raito and L.
I strongly recommend this title if you haven't read OR watched it yet.
My favorite character in the whole series is L. My other favorties include, Mello, Mikami, Raito and Matt.
I think L is awesome becuase he's the type of person I wish to be, intelligent, unique, honest (okay more like blunt), and strongly believes in what is right.
So who's your favorite character and why?

yup i agree but l and ryuk are my favrite charecters l beacuse hes layed back aways in chair on computer and ryuk cause hes really funny and the kina person i am

Personally my favorite character is Near. >///< I absolutely love him. No particular reason for liking him, I just do. I love the Death Note series though, it's really awesome.

The animation series has been great. I liked the thrill of the story, the idea of this notebook and it's power.
My favorite char is also L. He kept cool, calculating, a modern Sherlok Holmes. I also admire the eye for details L has.

my fave chara is definitely Near, bcuz like i said in the other DN forum, he has the ability link work and play 2gether. and only a person with great concentration can do that. i know, cuz i've tried... didnt work.

I like L the best. He's so weird and unique. His clothes r so simple and plain and baggy, and he eats a lot of candy and never gets fat. He's smart too.
I actually hate Misa and Near. Misa is like ur stereotypical fangirl, and Near is like a cheap ripoff of L.
That is just my opinion though. XD

Isha_Neko I like Mikami because he's dedicated, loyal, and hardworking...and hot. heart Oh my god, he's like completely hot! My friend and I kept squealing when he'd show up on the screen while we were watching Death Note. >.<

Definitely Ryuk. Just because he is an apple lover and is on nobody's side... But his own!! o:
My second favorite is either Mello or Matt. Mello because he loves chocolate and is just so funny when he says "The notebook just flew" in episode 29. Matt because he plays video games!! :3

Matt is pretty awesome for a minor character who appears in like one episode where he just dies...which was kinda sad. I was hoping we would've been able to get to know him better.

L and Near are my favorites in the series. Both are genious's in their own right, and both are calculating, thoughtful, and kinda mysterious. Kind of everything I'd like to be. ninja

When the author and illustrator of the manga made L die, the whole world went against Raito/Light. L hides his intelligence by his appearance but to tell the truth, he looks cute. I don't think he's sloppy and ugly like *some* people say. L rocks~~

It's a real toss-up between L and Near -- L is so dumbfoundingly intelligent (though sometimes it's hard for me to believe the way L and Light's minds work so much alike), and so idealistic, but Near has the fantastic quirks that he has with puzzles and toys and games -- and in the anime I love how they stage such things.

L was my favorite and a perfect match for Light. L was awkward and had interesting ways of getting the answer. These are the reasons why I like him out of all the other characters. He was an oddball, but always a genius. He was methodical and absolutely brilliant! Immense respect for him biggrin
