Okay, steampunks, At my school I'm part of a program where I can make a project about anything of my choosing. I've chosen to make a short documentary on the steampunk subgenre. I have about a week, maybe two, to complete it. I'm planning on getting dressed up and asking people around about the subject, to see what people know.
So guys, can I get some pointers? Anything that I need to cover/remember? I know I need the basis and origins of steaaaaampunk, but what else?
I want to make it fun, but really informative.
Thanks for any help, guys!

Very good question(s)...
Something you should definitely include are various examples of steampunk items; both as media and as items in real life (Steam clocks, for example, and the need for brass goggles). One supposes you could cover how steampunk has developed, as it were, over the years into what it is today. It may also be good to cover a few of the different flavours of steampunk, such as western and fantasy steampunks.
Perhaps asking different steampunky types about their own views on steampunk might be worthwhile.
~
I would also suggest editing your video so it perhaps looks like an old film (although silent would be highly inconvenient) - with an appropriate soundtrack.

Also, people may not realize that they're examples in popular culture as well. In particular I'm reminded of the Prestige and Wild Wild West, but there's also classics such as just about anything Verne wrote.

if only i had the doc i did for my film class, it was the best one. about DIY not steampunk but it would have given a good idea.
keep it simple, don't do anything fancy. a few voice overs. break up interviews, only have the question asked one time. examples. keep background music somewhat relevant and fairly quite.

Maybe include a few clips of steampunkish films and TV shows to demonstrate some of the ways steampunk has influenced mainstream culture? (Any excuse to show Capitain Nemo's car from LxG!)

Also you can add how and why steampunk has gotten an increasing attention by the public over the last few years...
