I hate the new craze that if you're over 170 pounds you're obese and need to die. Why is it the overweight range has shrunk? My mom remembered when Marilyn Monroe was heavy set but still considered average. Im 170 pounds and considered obese, so everyone in the 250-300 pound range is what...Whale size? This health craze has gone insane, in all the wrong ways. People aren't eating healthier, they're starving to be in the normal range. Like my boyfriends sister, girl is a size 2 but eats CRAP. Cookies, ice cream, potato chips, sandwiches filled with mayo. She thinks its fine, her mum thinks its fine, because shes SKINNY? Her arteries are clogging with every bite, her bowel movements are going to be irregulated, and shes killing her body with every bite. Just because shes not fat, doesn't mean its not happening. The reason i bring this up, is Miss Surrey '08 England is enraged she won and is going for Miss England next week. They think its promoting obesity. The girl is 170 pounds and eats healthy. She follows the pyramid and gets her daily fiber. I think she's a great influence, she may be bigger but dammit i bet she's healthier than most people who give her bad comments. Link to read more * What do you guys think?
* Sorry its so long XD

Wow! She's so pretty!! I think she's more pretty than those fake skinny sticks.
I can't stand people who are thin who eat so incredibly bad and really don't care what they put into their body and just laugh it off. "Omg! I LOVE eating junk food! Oh ho ho! I have high metabolism!" And people are envious of that. My sister spent thousands of dollars on lipo and a tummy tuck and a boob job only to turn around and treat her body like crap with the stuff she puts in it and she gained a lot of weight. It's like such a waste!
I lost tons of weight in the past 8 years, but I didn't starve myself. I learned how to eat healthy and balanced because I ate very bad. I gained about 10lbs last year and I lost it all and a bit more without really trying to do it. I started eating smaller portions because my stomach is sensitive and I've been doing normal exercises to get my body healthy. Now all of a sudden, people who complained me being fat are like, "You're too skinny! You need to eat more!" Meaning, because they don't see me eating huge portions or a lot of junk food I'm not eating at all. I still love food, but I choose to have a healthier option.
I know it's not exactly what you're talking about, but it just shows that people are stupid when it comes to weight. So it's ok to eat junk food if your skinny, but not if you're fat....but it's bad if you're skinny and you eat healthy and good if you're fat.
I get really defensive when it comes to weight issues and eating healthy and diets and such. I was a fat girl, I had people treat me like poop and I'll never forget what it feels like to be out of place like that. That's why I love seeing bigger girls as models or actresses because they are being themselves! If you're a bigger girl or even just a normal girl and you take care of yourself and you love your body and you have high self esteem....then that is freaking awesome and I have the greatest respect.
hee hee....ok, I'm going to stop now sweatdrop

She is super pretty! She reminds me of Kirstie Allsopp. It's a shame that her title winning is bitter sweet. neutral
It's funny how society grabs onto one thing without realizing there's much more to it. (Take Atkins diet - many people believed that all carbohydrates were evil.) And now, if you're over a certain weight, or look a certain way you're automatically labeled as unhealthy. Some people can be big and healthy - it's just the way they're built. An ex boss of mine was an avid skier, mountain biker, pretty much did everything. She has a pot belly and is probably about 200 pounds. But, let me tell you, she would certainly kick my scrawny 110 pound a** with both hands tied behind her back and standing on one leg.
And, as the flip side of the discussion - almost 5 foot 7 and 110 pounds, I'm constantly referred to as "skinny", "scrawny" and "eats like a bird". When I tell people I'm sensitive about my weight, they automatically assume I think I'm overweight and that I starve myself.

She is so pretty!
It really is hard to tell someone's state of fitness from a picture, especially with women, since we don't bulk up the way men do. However, it does concern me when someone appears to be carrying more weight than they should, especially when the weight is around the waist or above.
I have two daughters with very different body types. One is 5"10", size 7, small wrist, studies so much and plays trumpet, sneaks a lot of junk food---the other is 5'6", size 12, large wrist, absolutely busy all the time with work and college, and substitutes food for sleep at times. Just as their body types are different, their metabolic rates are different. And the health concerns for both of them are the same, as far as I'm concerned.
I believe that when you do the basics---good diet, adequate exercise and sleep, work and play---then you will be healthy. I see things in both of them that I would like to see changed. I know how easy it is to slip into those bad habits that bring poor health, and how hard it can be to break those habits. For most people, me included, it's the bad habits that cause the problems.

But the short of it is that the food pyramid was designed by the USDA - the grain people. There was quite a profit motive involved when they put grain on the bottom (and widest) layer. She's probably eating too many grain products for her metabolism.

Damn she's hot whee Er, I mean, pretty. *smacks forehead*
I think this stupid "health" trend is complete nonsense. My mother thinks that she was healthy her entire life until she actually started eating full meals--now that she's 120 lbs and has a belly (a very dominant trait in our family) she can't get over how "fat" she is. Her normal daily meal plan (while she was skinny)? Breakfast--Dr. Pepper; Lunch-11 Doritos and a 7-up; Dinner-1 cheeseburger, a Dr. Pepper, a Snickers bar.
She ate that crap. Every day. For thirty years. And she says that since she's been eating normal meals, she's been completely unhealthy.
While I'm 5'2, 135 lbs and eat constantly xd She calls me fat, because my structure is naturally a lot bigger than hers (my shoulders are about an inch less wide than my 6' 1" average-built boyfriend) and I have a bit of our family's belly bulge.
I hate that weight has become such an indicator of "health". It's not just weight that should be considered; it should be weight as compared to diet, body structure, muscle, heritage, and percentage of body fat.
Besides, if you have big boobs and a nice round a** (as are so popular now-a-days) the rest of your body shouldn't be bone-thin unless something's wrong stressed It's just scary to see these tiny girls with silicone-filled curves that look like they're gonna topple over at the first wind.

Dude, my mom loves Dr. Pepper too, its disgusting. Her meals are usually fatty foods and that. She went to the hospital a year ago from dehydration, from drinking so much Dr. Pepper. She didn't change a thing when she was released. I quite like my curves ^^ I have wide hips, a large bottom, and a large chest. The only thing i hate is my stomach =/ over all, im not ashamed for my size :]

I think that malnutrition is completely misunderstood too. When we think of malnutrition, we probably think of anorexic type bodies that are bone thin but what others dont understand is that you can be obese, and still be malnourished. It all depends on how much of the proper foods that we eat that keep us healthy and that is what a lot of us are trying to keep in balance. Though that can be hard because of the busy day to day lifestlyes, and the sexy allure of easy to make meals. The only problem is that those meals have a lot of extra crap and empty calories that cause problems. That coupled with folks not reading labels and not doing the proper research into what the heck they are eating. Some of the stuff that I have seen in our boxed and canned food is scary. MSG is the worst of it, but there is also too much sodium, nitrates, and I have even heard of salt peter being used. It is downright creepy but people just do not have the time. And dont even get me started on hydrogenated oils!
On top of that you have the fast food companies, most of them have all of the above listed chemicals in their food. I know, I looked it up. MSG is in the meat of many popular fast food restraunts. If people, just took a half hour of their time and do a little research, it might help their health. What I do now, is to keep to the outer rim of the grocery store. Our bodies simply cant handle the amount of the chemicals.
It is not just fat, it is the content from the foods that we eat. Simply we need the proper vitamins and minerals in our menus, not empty calories and chemicals.
Though I am far from the authority on health and am trying to practice good healthy ideals, I agree that we need a good mixture of exercise, work, sleep, play and water! (Grumbles about the issue of flouride... but that is a whole other topic!)

Omegaw..we're the same exact size (height/weight) I have a problem with midsection fat too... >_< But I still have a healthy BMI etc.. I can't understand how clothing sizes have changed so much.. Most of my friends say I'm not fat because I have more muscle than fat ..but.. I have to wear a freakin' large. I have to wonder how people bigger than me find their clothes! Nobody I know wheres a size 0 so why do they mass produce small sizes? Anyways, some people naturally gain weight faster than others. I don't gain weight quickly but I don't lose weight quickly (mostly because I've been inactive the past couple of years. ) If I put more care into it, I'd be more toned.. My diet is pretty healthy though. Most of my uber skinny friends and my friends who are overweight but unhealthy eat loads of sugar or empty calories. This girl, although 'overweight', doesn't look unhealthy at all! She's well proportioned and has a healthy glow. She would definately be a role model. Goodness I can't stand people who make up crap like 'she'll promote obesity'...goodness.

Cool ^^ Yeah I wear larges or mediums to fit my shoulders, chest, and hips, then have to cinch the waists and hem pants and skirts to get them to fit right. And I have to shorten the straps on most bras I get because even the shortest setting won't sit on my shoulders!
However, I do know people who are a size 0; a third of the girls at my high school wear a size 4 or under.. And for some, a 0 is too big so they have to wear kids clothing stressed It's scary..
