So yesterday was the first day of band camp for me.
I'm the only flute who is a senior, and I found out that I am no longer the section leader, and have been replaced by a junior, former second chair.
I'm totally cool with it, seeing as I really don't take charge and have bad leadership skills, while the new section leader is a great leader.
Just a little bit bummed that it's my last year and I'm not in charge, and now technically last chair since the section shrunk. >w>;

So, discuss:
Have you ever been demoted and replaced with someone in a lower grade/younger than you?
If so, were you okay with it?
Any idea why you were demoted; was it fair or unfair in your eyes?

((If there's already a topic like this, I'm sorry, and didn't not notice one.))

Huuur.
I can't seriously be the only person ever demoted in band.
D:
That'd be awful...

((btw, how is this marching discussion? o.O))

No, no. I know what you mean. Something similar happened to me, except its only because I am somewhat versatile in my instruments.

I did drum corps for 2 years, and was in the front ensemble. I was actually drum major for my school up until band camp after my first year of drum corps, and my percussion instructor convinced me (a.k.a. unfairly, guilted me) into being in the front ensemble for my high school because there were only freshmen and 1 veteran member, making a grand total of 4.

Hah. Well even though I gave it up, everyone thought I was demoted and I didn't get the "title" of section leader, though everyone knew I should have had it. I really didn't care about having a title, but my problem was that this other veteran member, a year younger than me, would not let me do anything, even though she was a terrible leader and had awful people skills...not to mention that she was a god awful player, with a huge ego followed by her "title". All I wanted to do was to help make us better, but she wouldn't let me do a darn thing or say a word! MY GOD....(sorry...getting a little worked up....that was the worst season ever...)

But now i refuse to be in the percussion section at my high school, and switched this year to Alto sax....though still...not in a leadership position. >_<

Though...in our competing wind ensemble, I'm first chair flute, so I can deal with that I guess. :/

when i was in 8th grade there was a 7th grader that got 1st chair and i got 2nd...but i think it was because her mom was like the super band mom and probably paid the teacher to put her kid in 1st chair lol it was all politics!

but later, in high school, i was 1st and she was like 5th haha
