As she ambled down the North Colonnade, Shee slipped a thin lock of hair through her fingers. Two new recruits had arrived recently; she had yet to meet them. Wraith had warned her to keep her distance from the one with the eyepatch, though. She laughed lightly at the thought. Wraith was always so... careful. And that made him no fun at all.

She wondered where everyone was. The hall was deserted; nothing marred the pristine white stillness of its walls except for her. What is there to do, she thought, with no one else around?

He'd managed to make his way out of the gardens all right and in one piece, his footsteps on the ground light and quick as he tried his hand at navigating. Einar hadn't made it to his room as of yet, his mind occupied with other things, so he felt no need to make his way to the area where his body would be resting from now on.

Of course thinking of his bed like that made it sound like he thought of a room as a coffin, which wasn't entirely untrue, but that didn't matter at this point in time. He kept his pace as he moved, his face looking up and his eye looking around to take in the sights. Easy to recognize landmarks had to be noted, easy to access locations had to be noticed.

" . . . "

It was in this manner that he didn't even notice he was walking down the hallway he'd entered with a turn, unaware that he was heading for a figure and could easily knock into her.

Lost in thoughts of possible activities for the day, Shee found nothing of use in her ideas. She needed... another person, to talk to, to do something with.

It was so quiet in the LOTUS grounds. Shee barely remembered what her life had been like before LOTUS, but she surmised that it must have included a lot of noise and general humanity, as she felt empty with the lack of these things that now surrounded her.

There were, of course, some people at LOTUS. But she'd hardly had the chance to meet any of them. And, there was always Estrelas.

Amused by the thought, Shee didn't notice the man heading towards her until he was mere inches away, the space between them closing rapidly as she let out a little squeak.

It was the squeak that caught Einar's attention from wherever it had been dwelling, and he let out a loud noise of his own as he noticed that Shee was almost directly beneath him and in his path. It took some effort but he managed to turn last minute and avoid knocking into her, although his shoulder may have slightly tapped hers as he did his little twist.

Regardless of the outcome it ended with Einar on the ground, his elbow having contacted first to prevent a head-on collision, and he winced a bit while biting his teeth closed to prevent any foul words from coming out of his mouth.

"...tsk!"

He wasn't sure if he'd broken the skin or anything, perhaps just smashed it badly enough to leave behind a stinging pain and some dirt on his clothes, so now wasn't the time to worry. Einar liked to take things in stride, and simple stuff such as falling down didn't even measure.

Looking up from where he sat, as he decided it was just easier to roll over onto his bum then get up and act injured, he smiled brightly at Shee. It was his usually toothy grin.

"Hey Missy, you okay? I didn't hit you or anything, did I?"

Shee blinked. A moment ago, she had been alone, thinking, staring at the white walls of the building, and now she was standing in front of the man with the eyepatch-- Einar, she wordlessly berated herself-- splayed out on the floor in front of her. As he'd fallen-- on account of her, she noted-- she'd known that he'd hurt himself, if only a little. She watched as he rolled over, apparently oblivious to any pain she thought he might be feeling.

His grin disarmed her a little. She thought that maybe Wraith was not completely wrong all of the time... "Oh. I'm fine. I should be asking you if you're OK; you're the one on the floor, after all." She outstretched her arm and held out her hand expectantly in front of him.

Huh. So much for keeping her distance.

Einar wasn't sure of the motive behind Shee's offer to help him up considering it was sort of her fault (mostly Einar's) that he was on the ground in the first place, but as he didn't want to be the type of human being who refused the good will of others he reached up and took her hand. He didn't let her pull though to help him up, instead using his own body strength to move without much effort. When he got to his feet he dusted himself off unceremoniously, his rear included, and he smiled again at Shee.

"Glad you're not hurt then. Wouldn't know what to do if I'd just arrived here and already injured another person."

He was looking at his elbow as he spoke instead of at the young woman, rolling his sleeve down to get a better look at the damage that was done. This wasn't an easy task since he had to get through a jacket and a sleeve together and halfway up his arm, plus ignoring the pain of anything running over said wound, and once it came into view he looked at it with disappointment.

"Eh, just a little scratch after all. Nothing too serious to worry about, so you don't even have to ask me how I'm doing."

Einar took her hand and pulled himself up without her having to do too much-- any, really-- work. As he lifted himself up and straightened, brushing dust off his rear, Shee laughed lightly, stopping almost immediately as she thought that Einar probably would not appreciate any laughter in this particular situation.

"Oh, don't worry about me! I'm pretty sturdy myself. Really! You'd be hard-pressed to really injure me... unless you were trying to on purpose, I suppose. But even then, it wouldn't be that easy. At least not as easy as you probably think it is..." Shee tapered off as Einar didn't seem to be paying her much attention, instead devoting his time to looking at his elbow. She watched him intently, her eyes flicking from his face to the wound on his elbow.

"Even so, do you want me to take a look at it? I'm pretty good with things like this, you know. At the very least, I can make sure you won't even get a..." Shee's eyes rested on the large scar snaking up Einar's arm. Shee blinked and looked up at him. Wraith's voice pressed against the insides of her head again as she wondered what could have happened to Einar to make him with such a large, dark scar. She wondered if Wraith knew; if he had made Einar disclose that information to him, and if Einar had allowed that information to be disclosed.

Einar looked up at Shee just in time to catch the tail end of her reaction towards the visible scar on his arm and his face broke out in a grin, this one slightly more sinister than the usual toothy one that he often flashed at others. His eye was more or less narrowed instead of being completely open or closed and his lips, pressed thin, were barely pulled back to form more of a smirk than an actual grin.

"Won't get a scar? As if that would be the highest of my priorities."

Almost as if he felt like showing off the wounds that he wasn't particularly trying to hide Einar rotated his arm a bit more, showing to Shee that it wasn't just one scar that permeated his pale skin. His arm was covered in them, so many in different stages of color despite them all being so old and now scars, and the smirky-grin stayed on his face. She just happened to see the largest out of the group on that particular arm, and part of Einar wondered if she was the type who'd want to see more.

"Thanks anyway for your offer kiddo, but you should save your 'gifts' for someone who actually needs or wants them. I fall into neither of those categories."

He wasn't trying to be mean, but Einar...didn't like people who wanted to help him. At all.

Why did he keep smiling at her like that? It was unnerving. Shee almost entertained the thought that he was daring her to ask.

"I just thought... I mean, some people prefer not to get scars. For aesthetic purposes? Although," she paused as he turned his arm slightly, revealing scars too numerous to count marking his pale skin, "I guess you're not one of those people."

At once, she felt two things grip her; curiosity arose as she wondered, more than ever, what could have caused Einar to be covered in so many scars, and an insane urge to grab him by the arm and just make him sit down so she could treat what she was sure would be the latest addition to the sordid collection. His next remark snapped her back to the situation at hand.

"Hey! Don't address me so lightly, Mr. Willason; I don't like it." Shee's lips formed a small, annoyed pout before she realized what else he had said. "And I don't have any 'gifts'. I just like helping people feel better. But it seems you like to be in pain."

"Like pain? Me?"

Einar's expression turned to one of confusion as he moved his wounded arm away from his face. While Shee had been speaking to him he'd raised it up enough so that his tongue just barely touched the tip of the wound and he'd been trying to get the minor bleeding to stop that way, but now that she had his attention once more he gave up on any cleaning for the time being.

"I hate pain. If I can avoid being in pain I'd do so, but a little scratch like this isn't even worth stressing over. It's not like it'll get infected right away if I don't mess with it, and I'm not in any hurry to have my body in top shape for anything, so this is trivial."

He finished buttoning his sleeve back and looked down to check the elbow portion, pleased to see that no blood had soaked through and it didn't look like any of the fabric had been torn. This outfit was rather important to him since it was the pride of his job, or something like that.

"Also, sorry for being so informal then. You haven't given me your name and I just can't call you 'you', so I figure your options were either Chickie, Kiddo, or Missy."

His voice held a little sarcasm snap of its own, though Einar seemed to have more experience at making it sound not so biting.

Shee laughed.

"You do know that you joined an organization called LOTUS, right? You should always have your body in top shape and be prepared for anything, and besides..." Shee broke off as a stab of pain shot through her left temple. Touching a hand to her head lightly, she whispered, "no amount of pain is trivial." Among the murky flashes of memory pricking the insides of her head, she wondered how a boy who claimed to hate pain had obviously been put through so much of it, his scars serving as an irrefutable reminder. Blinking a few times, Shee took a shallow breath and lowered her hand.

"I'm Shee Sian. I'd much prefer Shee to Chickie, Kiddo or Missy, thank you."

He looked like he cared more about his clothes than his own body, Shee noted, judging from their relative states, and the attention Einar was devoting to examining his jacket. "Are you sure you don't at least want me to lead you to a sink where you could clean yourself up? Licking, while creative, doesn't see to me the best way to accomplish your goal."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 26, 2008 4:31 pm

"Pleased to meet you, Ms. Sian. I'd introduce myself to you but you already seem to know my name, and I'd prefer to be called 'Einar' over anything else."

Einar had caught on that Shee addressed him as 'Mr. Willason' and he had to admit that it made him feel old to be addressed with that title. As it stood he was only twenty-one (by his standards anyway) and didn't deserve to have such a formal word attached to his name, even if someone was trying to be polite and proper.

"As for no pain being trivial, I can understand that notion. Pain is nature's way of telling you that something is wrong, that you're in danger; at least that's how my parents always explained it to me. I always thought pain was proof that you were still alive and could recover from anything."

He absentmindedly touched his eye patch at the last bit and cast his gaze downwards at the floor, watching his shoes instead of the face of the girl next to him. He stayed like that for a few moments until Shee once again spoke, mentioning a sink to him, and he turned his head quickly in her direction.

"Like I said, this is trivial and shouldn't be worried about. I won't die from something as little as this and it doesn't even register in my mind. Besides,"

A cryptic smile.

"I've had worse."

Shee smirked. "Of course I already know your name. But I'm pleased to actually meet you too, in any case." She wondered if he really didn't have any inkling as to who she was, as he seemed to be acting like that was indeed the case. Oh. That should be fun.

"...Parents? ...Proof that you could recover?" This time ignoring the p***k of pain that always seemed to accompany the nightmarish and utterly useless scraps of undefinable returning memory, she thought about Einar's explanation. Pain. To her, it was not a reminder of recovery. It was an indication of the descent into the recesses of her mind, into places she never wanted to think about again.

As Einar touched his eye patch, Shee's gaze was drawn towards it by the motion of his hand. Oh. Curiosity gripped her again.

She was ready for Einar's smile this time, returning one of her own.

"That's plain to see. I bet you I've had worse even than that."

"I honestly don't feel like making what I've been through into a contest, if you don't mind. I don't get my kicks or giggles from sharing war stories with other people while trying to out-do one another."

His face was quite stern as he spoke, his hand moving away from his eye and towards his throat. Behind that pink bow tie there was another reason for him to not stress, another story. . .but he wasn't intending to share it at the moment. He'd just gotten here, didn't really know anyone yet, and was being talked to like memories of pain were some kind of sporting event.

This really was not his cup of tea, and Einar was not afraid to let Shee know it. Talking about wounds just so out and open like this was almost like asking war victims how they lost their limbs. It was something called 'tact' and Einar certainly had it.

"If that's all you want from me then please give me leave so I may go. I've got better things to do."

"Oh really? I'd beg to differ. You know exactly what you're doing when you flash one of those smiles, or draw attention to all those scars on your arm."

Shee was almost angry with Einar now, as he berated her. "I'm not trying to out-do you. Just bring to your attention that you're not the only one with scars here, and most certainly not the one with the worst ones." She paused, a vague collection of features arranging themselves in her mind, leading nowhere but further towards the desperation she always felt when this particular memory came up.

"LOTUS... does not attract the most intact people. But it doesn't matter what a person's been through, or what they were in the past. Most of us can't even remember who we were before LOTUS! Just..." Shee didn't know how she could explain what she was feeling at that particular moment. She simply knew that she was not going to let Einar go like this, not without at least trying to fix her mistake. "it doesn't always help to hide things. I don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore. But I am sorry; I didn't mean it like that."

Shee closed her eyes and smiled slightly. Why was she telling Einar to go do something she couldn't do herself?

"Sometimes, you know, it's just something hurts so much that you have to treat it lightly. We don't have anything to smile about, so we have pretend."

Opening one eye and then the other slowly, she hoped she hadn't upset Einar. "How could you think that's all someone would ever want from you?"
