Nila landed on one of the delicate stone bridges of Sandpainter canyon as evening fell around her. She couldn't fly much farther today, so she might as well enjoy watching time go by in the skies. The sun shone the dying golden orange with a faint pinkish cast of the richest sunsets, the sky radiating from a white gold through oranges, reds, pinks, and pale violets to deepening blue violet. In the western sky, above the setting sun, the first stars of evening were beginning to shine faintly and shyly in the sky, glowing blue-white.
All too soon, the sun was gone, slipped away so fast that it should have lingered longer, but more and more stars were coming out. Nila smiled as the moon rose, half full and blindingly bright in the northeasterly sky, not knowing that other Painters might also be nearby, enjoying the same sight.

Durak spies someone on his normal perch so he wanders to her. "It is nice isn't it? The view. I love this spot. I come every night. It is nice to have someone to share it with. What's your name?" he says with a good natured smile. The view of the female was nice too. She was real pretty. She kinda blended with the sky too.

Nila turned around, startled. "Yes, yes it is beautiful, and I can see why you like it and come out here so often. My name's Nila. What's yours?" the male had surprisingly bright patterns against the darkest skin she'd ever seen, and the combination was not only striking but handsome, like new spring greens glowing against the darkness of a cave at night.

Durak gives a brilliant smile. "My name is Durak. Where are you going tonight? Can I offer you somewhere to stay?' He offers. He really didn't want to see this brilliant female leave. "And maybe you can watch the whole thing tomorrow. You just saw the the end."

"Nice to meet you, Durak. I had actually stopped for the night and was going to sleep here after watching the stars for a bit. I rather enjoy watching sunrise and sunset." She smiled. "That's a very generous offer, Durak. Thank you, yes, I would like a place to stay for a bit."

Durak smiles "Very well we will make sure to come nice and early for the sunrise. Now come along, it is right near by because this is the one place I usually am, unless I am hunting." He walks of instead of flying. He thinks Sandpainter's rely to much on there wings sometime.

Nila got to her feet and followed him. The moon illuminated the green markings, making him easy to follow. She didn't mind walking, as she'd been living on the seashore alone for a long time, but it felt strange to be walking on such a hard surface. She said nothing about it, because she preferred not to fly at night in an unfamiliar place. A soft smile was on her face, and she wondered in the back of her mind whether Durak had noticed, considering her face was so dark, even in this light.

Durak turns around quickly and almost bumps into Nila. He spots a smile on her face and he smiles in return. He is used to seeing in the dark, he usually hunts in the dark. He gestures at a small entrance basically covered by bushes. He shoves himself into a surprising large cavern, and settles on the floor of hay and greenery. "Make yourself at home."

Nila was startled when Durak turned around. Unfortunately, since the corners of his mouth weren't illuminated, she couldn't quite see his expression, but something told her it was a smile. She looked around his cavern, awed by it. She had never been in a cave before, let alone lived in one, so the way that the stone seemed to have been carved by wind, water, and time fascinated her, and the sight of greenery on the floor cheered her. She had made her bed of beach greenery, sometimes kelp that had strayed too far up the beach, but the greenery of Durak's cave smelled far sweeter than that of the beach. Looking around, she found a bit of a natural nest nearby Durak and curled up tightly as she had in the sand, delighted by the warm, springy feel of the greenery underneath her. It must have been a long day for her, because she fell asleep between one thought and the next.

Durak smiles at her a she falls asleep. She must of been really tired. Durak falls into a light fitless sleep. He wakes up at his usual time of before dawn. He nudges Nila to wake her up. The sunrise was beyond impressive and he thought she deserved to see it.

Nila awoke to Durak nudging her and a faint pearly light filling the cave. She got up and stepped out to the entrance, looking toward the sunrise. The first streaks were beginning to cross the sky from the horizon toward the zenith, from the pastel shades of dawn to the deep, vibrant blues of night. The stars were fading fast, but the light painted the canyon walls in vibrant shades of flaming reds, muted oranges, and dusty browns, with the cliffs on the other side creating darkest blue shadows where the light hadn't hit yet. "It's so beautiful here," she said softly, awed by the effects of the dawn on the landscape. Sunsets on the beach may be more spectacular than those over Sandpainter Canyon, but dawn here was easily more awe-inspiring than on the beach where she'd been living.

Durak looks up. "I suppose it is. I am used to it by now. Come on its better outside." she squeezes through the cave entrance and walks over to the ledge again. The sun has just peeked over the edge of the mountain range and it is a brilliant yellow staining the area around with oranges and reds fading out to an all over pink and farther out purple with clouds making it an mosaic. The clouds shaded on the bottom with the corresponding color. Durak sits on the edge and looks back waiting for Nila to come along.

Nila smiled and followed, half-shutting her eyelids to keep the brightness from blinding her after the cool darkness of Durak's cave. She settled down next to Durak, looking east, but not before she thought she glimpsed a smile on Durak's face. She smiled shyly as she watched the ruddy sun rose slowly, growing pale as it began to ascend the heavens. Relaxing, she reflexively began to shake out her wings, since she was accustomed to her wings being sandy in the morning, but stopped herself quickly, just a little embarrassed at doing something so unnecessary, no matter how reflexive it was for her.

Durak smirks at her shy grin back. He notices she starts to unfold her wings before she snaps them back. Her quirks his head to the side while asking "What was that for? If you want to stretch your wings you can." he offers confused. He himself unfolds his wings to there max and stretches them at an impressive size before folding them back in snuggly to his body.

"Oh, it's just that I'm used to shaking the sand out of my wings. Kind of silly to shake one's wings when there's no need, but a stretch would be good." She did stretch her wings out wide, surprised and delighted to note that they weren't as stiff as they usually were when she woke up on the beach.
