Ok so I'm looking to try a few shred solos. I was thinking Farewell Ballad By Zakk Wylde. If you have any suggestions tell me. Anyway I don't want to ramble on.

Personally I think Wylde is a massive wanker. If you're going too dedicate hundreds of hours to learning a solo, I would pick something that's more musically interesting. I guess Al Dimeola would be 'starter' shred by today's standards. Anything by Guthrie Govan. I dunno, I'm sure other people will have more suggestions. My only suggested would be to steer clear of Zakk. You're not going to get nearly as much from that as you would learning a fusion solo, or some Racer X or something. If you want to play like Zakk, just learn your minor pentatonic scales.

(Mostly because his most famous song was the same thing played over and over for live seven minutes straight.) XD' My suggestion would be to try and pick up some Steve Vai or Joe Satriani if your guitar has a whammy bar.

PunkRockFaces Although most people would probably recognize a Wyld solo, while as alot of guitarist don't even know who Al Dimeola is. Just as most people would recognize a Britney Spears vocal over say, Dinah Washington or something. But presumably a budding musician would have better taste (and better sense) than to equate popularity with quality. And if they just don't know any better (having not heard of the real talents on their instrument), it's up to us to help out. smile

Paul Gilbert is actually my "Guitar Idol" so to speak. I didn't really think to start with one of his songs, Speaking of Joe Satriani I've been meaning to learn Surfing haha. Never really got too much into Vai but I do like For The Love Of God and Bad Horsie I think it was. I've heard of Al Dimeola just never actually heard any songs by him. Yeah my guitar is a Jackson RR3 it has the licensed Floyd rose on it. Well thanks for your help, I'll give Surfing another try and probably try Technical Difficulties sometime.

Not neccesarily from the best guitarist out there, but something thats shredding yet semi easy (no shredding looks easy to my inexperienced eyes).

Lol you call that shredding...my bad but when i think shredding i usually don't think zak wylde is a really thick shredder...perhaps its just that i like more modern shredders...

An easy shred solo? I know it doesn't truly count as shred (I think... >>) but almost any of Avenged Sevenfolds solos. At least from Bat Country back. They're not too hard and if you can learn them, they do make you better if it's stuff you're not used to doing.
