Four days. There had been four sunrises and four sunsets since the young filly's world had turned upside down. A freak accidnet, a fire that bloomed in the night, driving her from the safety of her herd and her foster mother's warmth and love. The only creature that had accepted her and loved her was gone...maybe even dead. The mare's screams rang in her little ears still. The others...good riddance. Oh Nene had been good to her but she was a wolf and understood blood and the hunt.

Bitting back a whimper Adour shook out her red and gold mane, her lavander eyes darkening as she moved from the cave that was her new home. The strange kalona stallion, Aveshar had yet to drive her away so she just stayed. However, hunger was driving her out into the woods to hunt. True he watched over the little filly, but she was determined to take care of her own needs.

Psyche chuffed to herself as she meandered through the woods in a random direction she had picked. Xibalba had left earlier this morning without bothering to tell her or invite her, which seemed to be increasingly common lately. Ever since they had paid a visit to her grandmother - his mother - and she had forced that strange skull over his face he had been acting differently. More standoffish, and less inclined to do things with her. Well, she didn't need him. She had gotten along well enough before him, and she could get along just as well without him now.

Still... she sighed to herself as she nudged at a patch of mold that appeared to have at one point covered a small mouse's corpse - things didn't seem quite the same without him any more. Stupid as it might sound, and as much as Anju might scoff at her for mentioning that, it was true. She had never met another soquili whom she had gotten along so well with before Xibalba, and had always just entertained herself. Her two sisters lived with her father's herd, and no one in her herd had quite the same... interests. Until Xibalba.

Well... she could find interests all to herself, and perhaps she could make him jealous that she had found something interesting to do that he would have enjoyed without him. So it was with that thought in mind she had set of East to wander a new section of woods.

A rustle in the bushes caught her attention and she looked away from the mossy possible-body and narrowed her eyes and scented the air. A rabbit. Her stomach growled encouragingly. Unfortunately, Psyche had never been the most adept hunter of her herd. Her bright colors and licking blue flames did not make for a subtle approach. And she was a small mare - boars and large deer were difficult for her to overpower and bring down. But a rabbit? Maybe. She was lithe - and even if she didn't have room to fly in the woods, she might be able to catch it.

She took a few careful steps towards the rustle. A few more. And then, when she was hoping that the rabbit might actually just freeze and not run and make things easy - it bolted. Well, a chase would help get her mind off things. So she set off after it with a gleam in her eyes.

Gold tipped ears laid back as she heard the crashing sound of something large coming through the underbush along with the heavy, rhythmic thud of hooves on the ground. Something was chasing something...

She hissed under her breath as she ducked back into the underbushes. She tucked her wings tightly against her body, the tip of her tail lashing like an angry cat's. Adour had no idea who was coming towards her, but they would pay for distrubing her quite and peace.

And then, right before Adour - not 30 paces away came first a rabbit, and then a brilliantly blue mare who landed on top of it with sharp, silver cloven hooves with a triumphant pin. The rabbit squirmed and let out a shrill scream before Psyche transferred her weight and it finally lay still.

The mare herself was unusual to say the least - a vibrant blue that faded from dark to light until it met with spots of white around her lower legs. A long light blue mane and tail graced her, but it seemed to be rippling and dancing with a blue flame. Two short horns shot backwards from her head, and a pair of flutter wings grew from her back, but they appeared ripped and torn and also alight with fire. But at their base grew a few feathers. And slitted amber cateyes stared downwards.

If she had noticed the presence of another nearby, she showed absolutely no indication. Her focus was completely drawn to the warm body beneath her hooves, flecks of blood marred the silver and she lifted one carefully, seeming to inspect the droplets with a morbid fascination and a spreading fanged smile.

Damnit all...that could have been a good meal! Adour growled low in her throat, unconcious of the sound that might give her away. Stupid flutters...most useless breed. Taking a deep breath Adour strove to calm her temper. After all...the mare couldn't help that being a flutter mix made her stupid. Adour was just thankful that the flutter was the lesser side of her own blood.

Slipping out, she eyed the mare with a touch of wariness. "That could have been my dinner you know." The little filly sounded rather put out that even though she hadn't been on the hunt, that the option had been taking away from her.

It wasn't until Adour spoke that Psyche's attention snapped away from the lovely splatter of blood against her silver hooves - they had made such an intriguing contrast between the metallic shine and the rich, crimson. The shine of the metal could even be seen through the blood, amplifying that certain red - Oh yes - someone else was speaking. Almost reluctantly, she drew her eyes away, replacing her hoof down in front of her near the rabbit's still carcass.

It was a foal - that much was very obvious. White and gold with hues of purple - and large wings like her mother's - the batlike Kalona wings. Her tail, however, was different, and more like Taraxippus's. However, in Pysche's mixed herd where heritage was mostly understood from the traits that developed in the offspring and not necessarily the purebreeds that they had stemmed from, Adour was not a remarkable sight to the blue mare. Nor did she even really grasp that the traits were not supposed to be together. However, the young filly's presumptuous attitude towards the meal that she had caught took even Psyche by surprise.

"Yours?" Psyche responded, prickling. "Are there not enough rabbits in the woods for you, then?" She snorted, eyes roaming over the cloud-like patterns on her shoulders.

"It was the closest," came the retort with a child typical reasoning. Lavander eyes roamed over the pretty little mare before her, wariness mixed with curosity. Adour cocked her head to the side as she looked from the rabbit to the mare. "The further I have to go to try and find a meal, the longer it takes and I stand out when is starts to get dark."

Shaking out her red and gold mane she huffed faintly," well I guess there is no hope for it now. Enjoy your meal lady." The tuffed end of her tail twitched like a cats as she scanned the area wondering if she could luck upon a meal as easily as this odd little mare had.

Psyche snorted. "It sounds to me as if you are making excuses." She retorted as she took a satisfying chunk out of the carcass with a crunching sound. She savored the bite, chewing slowly before swallowing and licking her lips clean.

"You assume that the rabbit I chased towards you was the closest instead of going to go find your own. When there is one rabbit, there are usually more. You hardly look starving. Why don't you go find your mother, little filly If you are so hungry?" She pinned her ears back and bowed to take another bite.

"And do not speak to me about standing out." Her tail swished, leaving a brief trail of flickering flames.

Lavender eyes hardened as Adour lifted her head "Mother is dead. The fire killed her." She tried to sound as if the fact her mother was gone didn't bother her, but she couldn't hide the way her wings twitched, or the way her tail curled up on itself.

Before she could say more, her attention was caught by the flames that flickered off of Psyche's tail and wings. "What are you? I mean you have the proper horns and fangs but..." She wasn't trying to be rude, it was just a child's fascination with something new and different.

She moved closer to the bigger mare, unconscious of any danger that the other might present as she looked her over curiously. "My sister has wings and horns like you...but she is weak." Adour sneered faintly dismissing her sister as of little importance due to her nature.

Annoyance at the whining of the filly began to melt as the sitaution became more apparent. Her mother had died in a fire? Well, Psyche supposed that it stood to reason why she was alone in the woods and worried about her next meal. Her bravado might very well be a mask to protect herself. She looked down again at the dead rabbit, eyes locked for a moment longer on the intriguing play of the meat over the bones - how the pearly white shone through the drippy read. And more than just visually, the play of scents in her nostrols, and the still-present taste of its blood in her mouth. It really was beautiful. A milieu of sensory delights. She pulled herself from her reverie again, however to look over the filly.

"I.. did not know. I am sorry." She spoke. "You must indeed be strong to make it with out her." But her question seemed to puzzle Psyche. "What am I? I am a soquili. Like you." Had her mother not been around long enough to teach her the basics? Psyche was unaware of the distinguishment of breeds. "We are a varied race. Like you said, some with wings like mine, some with wings like yours. Horns in pairs or singly. And more colors and combinations than likely could be imagined."

Weakness, however, was not a concept that Psyche was unfamiliar with. Growing up in Anju's heard had ensured that. "Some are certainly, however, less fortunate than others. Some are those that could be pitied, or used." Although Psyche had had little interest in the deceptions and manipulations and games that those like Taraxippus played.

Adour ears perked at the talk of using others. "You mean like Aveshar does? Making people think one thing even if they don't want to?" That sounded interesting to the young filly. Making people say and do things they normally wouldn't do....yes that was defiantly something she could get behind.

"Pity serves of no use." She tossed her head proudly as she stretched her wings out. "Pity is for the weak. " She pitied no one and would attack anyone who thought to pity her. Again her attention was quickly caught by the flames on Psyche's body and she moved closer looking at her curiously. "You are pretty."

"I don't know who Aveshar is, but he sounds a little like my uncle Taraxippus. He likes to get soquili to do things for him or to believe something that isn't necessarily true. He gets all wrapped up in his ideas and he's too worried about getting his plans done than to truly enjoy the things that he's 'too busy' to savor." Psyche rolled her shoulders and looked down at the corpse, slowly losing its heat.

"Like this. He enjoys the moment of the kill, but then it's over for him. He doesn't stop to savor the beauty afterwards." An ear flicked towards Adour as she complimented her. Well, the situation certainly seemed more diffused than when they had met.

"Thank you." It was seldom she met another soquili who took the time to admire beauty. Xibalba was one of the exceptions, but he wasn't here right now, was he? "As are you." She was certainly an interesting mix of colors and features.

((Adding a note here as of Jan 4, 2009: since it's been quite a while since this RP had any activity, I'm going to go ahead and consider it inactive. No hard feelings whatsoever, I'm just trimming down my rather intimidating list of active RPs I check routinely. If you would like to pick it up again and continue it, just drop me a PM smile )).
