Hey, I'm planning to draw a fingolfin vs morgoth scene (like so many other artists have chosen to do... I just realized how unoriginal my idea was). I noticed that a few of those pictures featuring the duel showed fingolfin with light/blonde hair. I always thought fingolfin had dark hair...
Does anyone have any information that can help me. I haven't read the silm in too long.
I need descriptions of morgoth and fingolfin (correct please) ie. weapons, physical descriptions, armour, etc.
ok... this confuses me: "But with one last effort Fingolfin used Ringil to hew the foot of Morgoth: filling the pits of his mace, black blood poured from the wound."
This makes it sound like fingolfin used a mace to hew morgoth's foot...

Since Fingolfin was of the Noldor, I would belive he would have dark brown to black hair and dark eyes. Very steely looking. here's a website with a brief description of him : Webpage Titleanother great website is there and back againthe artwork on here is amazing. they have a great picture of morgoth.

I think the mace belonged to Morgoth. It had probably struck the ground in search of Fingolfin when he actually struck Morgoth in the foot. I havn't read the Sil in a while either, but that is my guess of what that paragraph means.

...I have no idea what's wrong with your copy of the Silmarillion. It should read as follows:
OF THE RUIN OF BELERIAND Yet with his last and desperate stroke Fingolfin hewed the foot with Ringil, and the blood gushed forth black and smoking and filled the pits of Grond.
Basically, it means that Morgy's blood gushed forth and filled the pits that Grond had created when it was slammed into the ground.

Perhaps it's a translated translation? confused ...there should really be a term for that. stressed
