I've finally done it. Fianna crowed triumphantly to herself. For months now, she had stared into the setting sun, soared high over her herdlands and gazed across the land, imaging what might be over that mysterious horizon. Ever since she learned to use her large wings, Fianna had been a little hellion to her mother and herdmates. She had taken to flying like a fish to water, and it was only through the adamant restraint of her mother and other family members that she had never ventured further than the sparkling river about a mile from the meadow she had first broken free of her basket. And ever since that day, it seemed, she was looking to break free of that larger basket that comprised her home.

It wasn't that she didn't love her family with all her heart. Hardly! Her mother was a brilliant, beautiful mare whose grace Fianna wished she could achieve. Her two sisters were wonderful. But... they just didn't quite think the way she did. They had all been told - briefly albeit - of their absent father. But where Deirdre seemed to interpret this news as some voluntary slight against her personally, Fianna was left with questions, with wonder. What was he like? Why didn't he stay? How much of her blood had come from him? Deirdre's funny foot. Her and Bronwyn's strange horns. Her own long, whiplike tail. What kind of stallion was he? What was he off doing? Fianna's mind had filled with adventure - of great battles - and of duties that this mysterious stallion must be fulfilling for some greater purpose. To her - it was not a slight, but a calling. Something that she must do. A quest to find something - her place.

Many days, Fianna had told herself that she was leaving. But as fiery of a spirit she had, every time before today something had held her back. A feast of clover in the spring. A herdmate's minor injury. Even a particularly rousing story told. But today was the day. She had taken wing and kept going - past the point where her home-meadow had faded into the distance behind her and was just a fuzzy green haze. Over the sparkling river. And to the point where the looming purple mountains had become more than just jagged shapes that clawed the sky but were tangible rocks with patches of snow and brave trees that rooted into whatever soil had collected on them. It was - Fianna realized - a massive, magnificent world full of so much wonder. With her home behind her, she felt the butterflies escape her stomach and leave her with a bold, heady feeling of accomplishment. She smiled into the sunlight, letting the wind tease at her mane. Today was the first day of her journey - no - her quest. As her eyes roamed the fields below, she settled into a comfortable glide, eager to see what the world would present to her.

The trees were lush and green, heavy with the late blooms of summer. The river was sparkling, the hills untouched and yet still Einar sought for something more.

He had been a drifter for longer than he could remember, staying in one place never longer than a month or two, trading his stories for meals, a place to stay, and sometimes companionship. He never wore out his welcome, often disappearing from a particular herd without a word to anyone, just knowing that it was time to move on. He would call his constant need to move on wanderlust, following his heart, or even called himself a free spirit, but it was far more than that. Einar felt... empty inside, so used to playing characters in his stories that he did not remember who he was, or even his first name. Einar was just the name that he had fallen in to using, the third or fourth in as many months. Though he was a vibrant character in appearance and personality when approached by others, he was more of a melancholy creature when he was alone. He was lonely, the only companionship he had was the short visits to different herds. He had met many, but knew very few of them well, maybe one or two.

He had left an encampment of Usdia the day before, delighting them with stories of the small and fearless. He was well fed and his hair was slightly damp from a jump in the lake. He felt pleasant and cool though his mind was on other things, far more involved things than whether he would eat well that night or not. New stories needed to be created, and a new character to use. He had been a traveling musician for months, and before that a story teller, but both felt tired to him. He needed something new, something far more exciting.

"Ah. I shall be a warrior," Whistling to himself, Einar walked on, occupied in his thoughts.

The ground was racing below her as Fianna glided along the landscape. It was exhilirating, it was breathtaking and it was everything she had imagined. Without her family nickering at her to stay back, to not go so fast, she was reveling in her freedom. A wild, exhilirated laugh bubbled from her throat as she made out deer, rabbits whizzing below her. And then, the flash of something different. Something larger. A brilliant orange and flash of gold caught her eyes and held it.

She nearly lost her hold on the winds as she craned her head as she passed over it, but she recovered, angled and turned, circling around to get a better look. It was another soquili - a stranger. With five great flaps of her wings, she changed her direction again - this time towards the ground. What an opportunity to meet a new face! Curiousity was already bubbling over as her hooves touched the soft grass.

She shook her wings out and tossed her mane as she trotted towards the stallion. Interest and curiousity sparkled in her moss-green eyes as she looked over his sparkling necklaces, the luxurious wraps around his waist. The great horns behind his head reminded her a bit of her sisters' and so she showed no fear at the traits that others might see as Kalona.

"Hi there." Fianna said with a brilliant smile. "I... ah, hope that I'm not bothering you." Fianna knew she was being quite forward with the stranger, and maybe not that lady-like, but she hoped that this mysterious stallion didn't mind.

Einar could hear her coming, his years of wandering not wasted being caught up in the scenery. He would have died years earlier if he was oblivious to his surroundings, but instead he had enhanced his natural instincts to the point where they were razor sharp. It made telling stories easier, as he could read in to their posture and their surroundings, and choose or create a story that would delight any herd.

Even though he heard something coming, he did not stop moving, but tensed, ready to run if need be. But there was no need, as the female lighted down in front of him. Nothing betrayed his obvious surprise at seeing someone alone out in this landscape, as he had believed he had already visited all the herds in the area. She also didn't look like anyone that he had met, so at least it wasn't some female that he had left before. He didn't need that sort of headache right now.

He took a moment to steady himself, and breathed deeply. It always took him a moment to set his new character, though he had been thinking of him since he had left the Usdia herd.

Meeting the female's eyes, he smiled widely and bowed his head, his bands clattering gaily.

"Good morrow, dear lady," Einar looked her over, noticing her strange appearance. He rarely saw those with blended features and that tail... odd, but she didn't seem to be ravenous for his blood or any such nonsense. Besides, she had spoken with a smile. Einar was always willing to trust those who smiled; Sometimes those smiles led him astray, "what brings you this way? It is not likely this is your destination, although it is rather pretty around here."

Fianna folded her wings to her sides and pressed them in closesly as she watched the expression on the strange stallion. He seemed to ponder for a moment, and Fianna almost second guessed her decision to land and speak with him. What if he didn't want company? But then the hesitance melted away to a genial smile in response and Fianna's own smile widened confidently.

At his formal greeting, she dipped her own head and chuckled lightly, a darkening tinging her cheeks. "Good morrow." She responded in kind, her tail flipping back and forth behind her betraying her flattery as much as the blush.

"No, not exactly. Not unless your name happens to be Ethan..?" She asked with a small tilt of her head. But despite the stallion's horns, she somehow doubted it. She and her sisters possessed an array of features not present in her mother, and he only seemed to bear the horns.

Her eyes scanned the scenery, taking in the greenery and new vantages that were not present in her herdgrounds. "It is quite lovely here." She admitted with a purse of her lips. "I don't suppose that this is your destination? Or home?" This was the first new face she had met, and she was brimming with interest and curiousity, so much so that she had forgotten to make her own introduction.

((Adding a note here as of Jan 4, 2009: since it's been quite a while since this RP had any activity, I'm going to go ahead and consider it inactive. No hard feelings whatsoever, I'm just trimming down my rather intimidating list of active RPs I check routinely. If you would like to pick it up again and continue it, just drop me a PM smile )).
