Heh, i got a good laugh from this story about Iolani Palace and a man named Akahi Nui who claims that he is a direct decendant of Kamehameha. Here's the article. Kamehameha's last decendant?Do you think he deserves to be the king of Hawaii? Do you believe he is of Kamehameha decent? Should we follow his lead?

<_< He's giving Hawaiians a bad name...
Seriously, can he prove he's a descendant from Kamehameha? I mean, I don't think there are birth certificates and things to even trace it back =/
And even if he is, he's not really "fit to be king". The monarchs were taught how to rule the government of Hawaii from a young age right? They were properly educated in this sort of thing. I highly doubt whoever this joker is has the minimal amount of knowledge in political science needed to run a small town, let alone a kingdom.

Yes he gives us a bad name.
Well, he can't be a DIRECT descendant of Kamehameha. All of his descendants are all deceased. he can be RELATED to him through a cousin.
there was two problems with him: 1. he has a long history of crimes. 2. he couldn't find the throne room. a. He thought it was upstairs b. It was really downstairs in a room to the left.

Not that I support Akahi Nui, because I really dont know much about him or his group at all, but I dont think that a history of crime necessarily invalidates his abilities as a leader. After all, hasn't U.S. President - elect Obama confessed himself that he's broken federal law before (in the form of marijuana and such)? Yet nobody questions his abilities as a leader.

Well I don't know about being a decedent of Kamehameha the Great but I do believe that the U.S. should give us back control of our land. When you look at history they say that Captain Cook came here and colonized the land and made the island people more sophisticated. What they don't tell you is that they just came and said that this land was theirs and they basically controlled everything that the Hawaiians could do. They couldn't practice their religion, speak their native language, or any of that stuff. The Europeans came and treated the Hawaiians like crap and they could get away with it because it was their "god-given right" to come in and basically take over other peoples' land and force on them their religion. So in a sense I do believe that there should once again be a king of Hawaii. We should go back to the old ways and practices of the Hawaiians that came before Cook. BTW I'm not Hawaiian I'm Japanese but I respect the culture and also that link you provided is dead now. As a side note I know many people who fly a Hawaiian flag upside-down as a sign of their sovereignty and longing to be separated from the western influences.
