I'm still not at a professional level of craft as these wonderful ladies are, but I'd like to show off their work with them sewing and creating the D look and wearing it nicely as well.
Amano version of D. (Amano drew D for the novels, not the manga as much.) I'm happy to say, I actually met this young lady in person and it was breath taking to see her walk across the stage with a certain air about her that is D. (She actually won an award for this cosplay.)
More of the movie version of D. She's just as great as the last girl.

You those two are actually pretty good. I've not seen any that I really liked and I always thought only a chick could pull off a D cosplay. Those are some pretty good cosplayers. Dedication is key!

redface (blushes for the compliments) Maybe the next time i'll made the hat with something better than papier mache...it was very uncomfortably to go around (I made the outfit for a comic fair) with a thing rigid as iron put on head!

You all did well cosplaying and creating the D image, and I respect you for it too.
I just hope I can get the courage to one day fully attempt this, but I'm currently still training myself with other cosplay craft before doing so.

Skill is nothing, persistence, perfection and lots of time, effort and money go into a good Cosplay no matter what the character. (Excluding L cosplayers -shudders-)

Ah, yes, that's a major part of cosplay as well. (Still, it helps me just to have some more experience before taking on something that big.) The only thing I've mastered well enough is sewing ok with leather materials.
I've literally had blood, sweat, and tears go into cosplays. (Believe it or not, a perfect and well done Monkey D. Luffy made from scratch does take a lot of effort.)
I think I'm going to try making a couple of characters I want to cosplay that involve me making armor and the other long cloaks and other articles of clothing that'll give me practice and experience for making D's. (The two characters are Endrance from .hack//G.U. and Soren from Fire Emblem. Both good practice before doing D.)
