A god's true nature || AIM Log - Finar-si & Rio

The desert sands shifted, once again ...

Another dawn awoke, spreading the ground awash in a sea of colors. Those who had never been in the desert would never be able to fully appreciate the daybreak: burning golds, oranges, reds, and purples that have no equivalent anywhere else on earth. It was a beautiful and poignant demonstration of nature at her very best ... and most untamed. At this early hour in the morning, the predators who had not killed during the night were aprowl, desperate to fill their bellies before the new daybreak. The prey, lulled into a false sense of security by the fact that night had finally gone, coudl be easy targets ...

A lioness was watching the sun rise over the savannah. Her burnished red pelt gleamed in the morning sun, glints of light catching on her magnificant wingspan. Light purple eyes surveyed the scene, with some unreadable emotion, while the female's tufted tail twitched to and fro. Morning in the desert, and Finar-si was abroad.

((Note: Rio speaks with a Mexican accent. Sounds weird, I know, but it's just part of his character.))

A feathery beast of a deity was coming for a landing to view the sunrise as the familiar old god's domain began to break on the horizon. His stop would be brief, more than likely, as Rio's thicker fur and heavier wings did cause him to overheat a little easier in this environment. Normally he had no problem since he was built for endurance, but the heat of the desert in full swing was something even he couldn't put up with for long.

A breath hissed as he exhaled through his nostrils forcefully, eyes narrowing on the golden sea being dyed with the colors of the spectacle in the sky. How bothersome, and he was no closer to finding Rosh yet, and quickly becoming frustrated by that fact. Why did he have such a track record with the loves of his life?

She frowned as she glanced overhead, a shadow marring the sun's light. A hawk, or worse, Hestia? But no - the creature is far too large for that, and she can only gape when she spots an unfamiliar lion god, coming in for a landing.

She stood up, furious. Damn and blast! The mortals might be on uncertain terms with her - half of them refused to believe she exist, or knew there were other gods - but that could be pardoned them, they made her life amusing, and it was fun to toy with those uncertainties. But gods ... well, gods was a different issue. These were her damn lands. Even her siblings had either gone into slumber or left the lands ... even Hestia had finally subsided, after the fool bird goddess had gotten her precious little swamp back. Sweeping her wide wings behind her, the Goddess of Change stalked toward Rio, eyes narrowed, tail snapping against the ground, graceful, lithe form moving easily over the shifting sands.

Drawn by the commotion of her angry approach Rio turned. Staring at Finar-si, for a moment, his surprise was the first emotion apparent. Great, this was just what he needed, a pissy goddess getting on his case. He snarled as irritation set in, facing Finar-si and tucking his wings to his sides. He was rather oblivious to the fact he was tresspassing, so felt especially irrate at being greeted so. This was why he disliked the gods and their rebirth cycle. Maybe she was someone he'd met in a past life and didn't know it.

"What do you want?"

He was certainly a lively one in return, for a trespasser. And he didn't seem to care that he was! She certainly needed to put him back into his place ...

"I could ask you the same question, boy." She huffs, coming to a standstill just feet away from him, and curling her lip at him. He was younger than her, or so he looked, so he automatically was given the derogatory term. He was also nobody she knew, or had known ... at least, she didn't think so. "These are my lands."

"So what, that makes you the goddess of guard dogs, abuela?" He sneered, not caring for the term, literally. She likely was older than him either way, but he could have looked older if he really wanted to. He'd had this appearance for centuries, so was well accustomed to such derogatory terms from older creatures. "I'm not interested in your precious lands. I'm just resting." Rio glared, trying to attach a name to any rumors he'd heard that might explain this one's identity and if she were a threat or not.

((Abuela = Grandmother, according to my translator at least.))

She almost ground her teeth in frustration; dealing with mortals was so much easier than this. Mortals held you in respect; they didn't treat you like ... like some commoner. The lioness hisses, tiny claws popping out of her paws automatically. Fin stared at him coldly, eyes sharp with a condescending air, regal gaze haughty. "I am Finar-si, goddess of Change." She paused. "Changing you into a flea would just about match your body to your brain; but perhaps that's an insult to the flea."

"Heh..."

Now the god just smirked, relaxing his posture as though he no longer considered her worth the time to get riled up over, but that haughty and condescending stare really, really pissed him off and brought up bad memories. He'd just remembered why she seemed familiar, just connected the rumor he'd heard about her. After all, one does learn much when traveling all over the world.

"Oh, Finar-si, now I see. I heard you were playing babysitter to some toddling group of mortals in the desert, still. Didn't think that would turn out to be true."

Despite the sarcastic mirth in his tone it was clear he was bitter, as the underelying inflections of his voice would so indicate. The other gods had scorned him when they found out, when he came back to their haven distraught. He preferred to be among the mortals ever since and there were very few immortals that still held his trust or any relation with him, very few that understood, though some had been reborn again and again since that tragedy passed. Rio still would nto trust again so easily.

Yet that wasn't enough to stop him from throwing something similar in Finar-si's face, best beat her to it before she got to him. Maybe she didn't know of his "legendary foolishness", but then again, maybe she did. He had to be prepared to face the verbal poisonous barbs either way. "That how you get your kicks? Seems a pretty boring and tame lifestyle for someone with a domain like Change, of all things." He snorted, eyes narrowing.

Her ears, if possible, went flatter in anger, and the purple eyes flashed, displaying the female's royally quick temper. A very tiny part of her was curious at the bitterness; but she brushes it away. So what? He was another god, just someone to watch warily and try to push out as much as possible. He might have had his own problems, but they sure as hell wasn't hers.

"You know nothing of what goes on in the desert, pup," she snaps back, tail coiling around her forepaws. "You don't even live here; you don't even know how difficult it is for my people to live here, and thrive, and dominate. It shows a test of skilsl that your poor mind couldn't even begin to comprehend. Even as mortals, they're tougher than you, god."

"Yeah?" Rio smirked again, coldly. "Not saying much, really. I don't claim to be something I'm not, and I'm no fighter. Any idiot could bare their fangs and swing their claws like some kind of stupid brute. As far as the rest, well now, I suppose you don't listen well do you? I already said I don't care for this place, which should indicate already that I'm not from here and don't care to be. This sand? Pfft, gets and stays everywhere. Boring landscape, no worthwhile landmarks to speak of, not to mention the piss poor dose of heat stroke that seems to have fried even the great Finar-si's brain. Goodness me!"

His eyes gleamed briefly with sadistic humor, rearing to his full height. He might lack the bulk of the Firekin, but he was built for speed anyway. A bit on the tall side considering, but still. He had leg and wing strength to rival most-- but not all --anyone he met.

"By the way, these wouldn't happen to be the same Firekin that I heard got run out of their own lands by a gang of rebel rogues led by the traitor heir, would it?"

((Rio's diggin' himself quite a grave here. O<))

Her eyes stayed narrowed, and she snorted. "Don't insult what you don't know, then; just makes you look more stupid than you do already, and believe me, that's an accomplishment." Her lips twisted into a sneer. "Obviously, you're a bloody weakling if you can't even stand a little bit of sun." The voice changes to dripping sarcasm. "Poor you, going to positively melt from a little heat."

A flicker of interest showed in her eyes at that last; if he was thinking to make it into a barb, he failed miserably. "Yes," she murmured, proudly. "My son, Kidondo, led them."

"Whatever." He snorted. "You're one to talk. You keep calling me 'pup' and 'boy', but I chose to look this young. Life isn't all about brute strength and size."

He was irritated that his last comment got no where, but then shrugged it off with an easy going roll of his shoulders or two. Why had he allowed himself to get this worked up in the first place again? He couldn't recall a good explanation. So then, his temper had just gotten the better of him again? Damn.

"Good for you." He snorted, snapping his wings open. The sun was still rising, not caring about their ridiculous argument or swapping of insults, naturally.

She raises an eyebrow at that. "Even if you choose it, you still look like that, so that's what I'm going to call you, pup. It's your own damned fault for picking to look so young." It was an interesting notion, truth be told, and Finar-si also looked ... younger than she really was. It was a long time since she had died and reincarnated; generations, in fact. Dying was so messy. She'd have to grow up all over again, and who knew if she'd remember anything of her past life? She might never get back here again ... the thought carried an inexplicable sadness. Her bloodline was here, in these creatures. Suddenly tired of dealing with the young upstart, she sneered at Rio.

"So move along, little boy, back the places you came from, where you're pampered and spoiled and don't have to do anything for yourself." She turns about then, flicking her tail in clear dismissal.

Rio growled, unreasonably irritated as the lioness began to walk away, dismissing him in such a demeaning manner no less, and childishly he couldn't stop himself from yelling after her: "And STOP assuming things if you don't want the same done to you!" --before muttering under his breath, but then turned away as well with a brief pause mid-turn to glare over his shoulder before taking off. This was precisely why he avoided the other gods like the plague and preferred to stay around mortals.
