This was to be little Taavi’s first time at daycare. Normally his guardian prefers to have her adorable little Taavi constantly by her side no matter what odd things she was getting up to, but today she was entering a no-children zone and so a teary-eyed Tio was forced to leave her darling in the dubious capable hands of daycare staff. The little red-haired baby was not put out by his new environment, he waved goodbye to his mummy and got to the important business of exploring his new environment.
A sweet, cute little smile on his face, Taavi sat down and inspected the various toys on offer or avidly watched the other children. Seeing others his own age was a treat and he observed with his bright gaze, giggling happily every so often. But he hesitated in getting into their games, just a tad bit shy and uncertain.

Sometimes, Ophelia got out of class to help with arts-n-crafts in the daycare. She rather liked this arrangement, because babies were cuter than math, and because she found gluing macaroni to construction paper rather meditative. She helped her father set out stacks of paper, bottles of glitter, boxes of crayons, watercolors and water, safety scissors, noodles, markers, popsicle sticks... and an assortment of other miscellany. Once it was set up, the other kids set about making their way over to the table to join in.
Ophelia patrolled the daycare for a bit, looking for stragglers. Aha! She spotted a little red haired boy off on his own. There was one! She walked over to him and squatted so she was at his level.
"Hi!" she said, smiling at him. A couple of stars bobbed around her ear. "I'm Ophelia. What's your name? Do you want to come do arts-n-crafts?"

Taavi blinked shyly up at Ophelia, his attention distracted from the little toy car he’d been playing with. His gaze shifted to the little stars bobbing around the girls head and the baby gave a cute little giggle. Within moments he was giving the older girl a bright smile. Oh, what was his name? He’d been practicing this with Tio! “Taavi.” He said clearly in his soft, sweet voice. Arts and crafts? Oh, that sounded like fun. “’es plees.”
He tipped forward and picked himself up, standing with only a bit of a wobble and then put his hand out for Ophelia to take.

Ophelia giggled and took the little boy by the hand. He was so cute! "Well, Taavi," she said, leading him across the play area, "What do you want to make?"
They got to the table and she pulled out a child sized chair for him. "We have paper and paint and crayons and markers and popsicle sticks and yarn and glue and googly eyes and clay and glitter and macaroni and... uh... a whole lot of other stuff." Out of breath, she pulled out a chair for herself and sat down beside him.
"Do you want to draw a picture?" she asked, pulling a few sheets off a stack of paper. "Do you want crayons?"

Taavi tottered over to the little table, his little hand in Ophelia’s. When she directed him to a chair he sat himself down, wriggling a little to make sure he was comfy and then turned his gaze onto the older girl, waiting patiently for her to show him what they needed to do. When she rattled off a list of items they could use he giggled.
“Draw?” He gave a happy nod of his head.” Plees.” Yes, he would very much like to draw a picture; one for Tio and one for the ferrets and one for this nice girl. “‘Tank-oo.” Taavi was always one to remember his manners.

Ophelia giggled and set a piece of paper down in front of the little boy. He was just too adorable! She tugged a bin of crayons over towards them, tipped a few out onto the table, and got a piece of paper for herself, too.
Ophelia's art tool of choice was paint. She pulled a set of watercolors and a cup of water in front of her and dipped her brush.
"Need anything else?" she asked, dipping her brush into the green.

He politely waited until Ophelia had also sat herself down, looking over curiously when she set up her paints. That looked like fun too! Maybe after he’d done the job of making something pretty for everyone he could do that.
Taavi sorted carefully through the crayons until he found a colour he liked. With a small frown of concentration on his face he leant across his paper and began to drawing. Yellow crayon in his hand, he began to make a shape that was vaguely circle-ish. Orange soon followed, making the yellow circle rather hairy looking.
Taavi worked diligently for a while before looking over at Ophelia to see if he was doing a good job. “See. Is kay?”

Ophelia looked up from the landscape she was painting to look at the little boy's picture. "It's great!" she said enthusiastically. She wasn't sure what it was - she thought it might be a sun? "What is it?" she asked.

Taavi beamed happily at the praise. “Happy sun.” The little boy explained. He gave the yellow, hairy circle a wobbly mouth and two eyes and then began putting little blue spots around it as cloud. After he was done with that he gave a happy nod, considering his masterpiece done. “For you.” He said shyly.

"Thank you," giggled Ophelia, blushing as she took the picture and set it off to the side. She placed another sheet of paper in front of Taavi. "Why don't you make another?" she suggested. "You can take this one home to your mommy or daddy?"
She let him work and leaned over her landscape again, adding palm trees to the beach. She'd have to try this later at home on her easel and see what kind of world it made...
