The sun hung low in the sky sending the last waves of heat down to the earth. The crickets were beginning their evening songs, calling out the temperature to one another with the rubbing of their wings. Song birds were returning to their nests to roost for the night. Many creatures were returning home but a stallion had just left his.

Xantir moved slowly throughout the forest of his home. His usually bright eyes were dull and his head was held low. The cogs of his mind worked slowly as he tried to process everything that had happened. He stopped in a small clear patch in the tress and stared up at the pinkening sky. The color reminded him so much of his little girl's markings.

"Ijn..." The name was a sad whisper off of his lips. He did not understand how she could have left like that. He had done everything right, at least that's what he thought. She had left, though, which meant he had to have done something wrong but what?

He continued to stare out at the sky slowly losing awareness of where he was.

Chu'mana had been spending the majority of her day lazing beneath a tall oak tree. Its shade reaching out and keeping her out of the sun for quite some time. She had only had to move a little bit. The bright sunlight of the afternoon on her dark pelt was a bit too much sometimes.

But now afternoon had turned into dusk and the skies changed their colors as the sun went to its resting place in the far west. To a place far away beyond the mountains. Mountains that not even Chu'mana had ever been over. Though she wasn't the too overly adventurous sort to go that far anyway. No.

The sudden appearance of a tan colored stallion caught her attention. He had just walked right out of the forest. Paying no mind to whoever or whatever was around. Ears perked as she listened to him closely. Thinking perhaps she had caught a name that he had whispered. Either way.

"Hello there! And just what has got you down this evening?" The air around him seemed to hang with sadness. And the look on his face didn't hide the fact either that he was a bit distraught.

The voice jolted him out of his trance like state and he jumped slightly his ears pinning back against his head. He looked about and quickly located the source of the voice. A black mare with green markings. He bowed his head politely, feeling a bit down was no excuse to just ignore manners.

"Hello miss." He said sounding quite a bit less then enthused. He hesitated to answer her question. It was rude to not answer however it would probably be better for her not to know the precise details of what had happened. He did not want to ruin her mood with bad news.

He settled for a vague response, better that then the whole story or nothing. "I lost some one recently." He answered solemnly hoping the answer would suffice.

There was little that could bring Chu'mana's spirits down. At least now a days. She had learned not to pick up on other's emotions so easily as it tended to effect herself as well and she would find herself upset or angry for no apparent reason.

Empathy was what Firefly had called it.

A curious ear perked at his reasoning. "Lost? Well then why not go find them if you've lost them? That would be the first thing to do. Nothing is ever lost, just misplaced." Her curly tail flopped against the soft grass that she lay upon. Bright green eyes looking the stallion over with a silent glance.

He sighed and shook his head. Perhaps he had been a bit too vague for her to even understand. "It is not like that." He said wishing very much that it was that simple. It had started out just that easy if he had taken the time to search a bit harder. Things had the unfortunate habit of spiraling out of control near him though.

"Lost was perhaps not the best word. She left..." He paused feeling suddenly sick. "She left me." He was still trying to skip on the details but statements like that were rarely left untouched in his experience. Talking was the last thing he should be doing or so he thought. He needed to be looking right now or doing something else that seemed productive.

Lifting herself up off the ground, the old mare gave her body a quick shake. Her curly mane and tail fluttering about in reaction to the shake. She gave one last toss of her head to get the out of place curls out from in front of her eyes before trotting over to him slowly.

"Who left you?" Perhaps she could help. But she'd need to know more of what was going on before anything could be done. If it was his mate well, that would be an unfortunate thing. The only thing she could place was that it was a female and the stallion seemed very distraught about it.

He knew it. Things like that just couldn't be left alone. "My...daughter." The thought still didn't set well with him. It still felt like he was in the middle of an extraordinarily bad dream. If it were just a dream he would have been relieved but reality was something one couldn't just wake up from.

He stood silent for a moment just thinking before giving his head a shake. "I'm sorry. It would be better if you forgot that." He didn't want to trouble her further. "I'm sorry for bothering you." With that said he turned and started to walk off keeping his eyes glued to the ground for signs of the the two that Ijn had left with or signs of Ijn herself.

Chu'mana pursed her lips lightly, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth. The stallion just seemed too upset for her to just let him wander off. What if he became so distraught that he got himself into trouble.

Biting the bullet, she trotted after him. Still a warm smile on her lips. "No bother at all really. I completely understand how you feel really. Have five children of my own actually." The mare was proud of her children. They all made her proud indeed.

She nibbled on her bottom lip for a moment before speaking again. "Do you know why children leave their parents?"

When she followed he stopped and looked at her. "That's wonderful...really." He said trying to smile. It really was nice to have so many children but he just couldn't feel enthusiastic about such a thing at the moment.

"I..." He paused not sure if he could answer this question. In his experience children left when they didn't want to be around a person or place anymore. At least that was how it had been for him and that was the way it seemed to be with Ijn.

"I couldn't tell you..." He said in a sigh. She said he wasn't bothering her but he somehow knew that what was on his mind would trouble her quite a bit. He was fairly certain that no mother wanted to hear such a down heartened thought.

She frowned for a second. "I can understand how you feel, friend. Even though I have five children of my own I rarely see them all that often. But its something I've come to terms with, something all parents have to come to terms with eventually."

An ear perked as he began to answer her question but stopped. Titling her head curiously, she peered at him from behind her curly bangs. Bright green eyes searching his face as he seemed to be thinking about how to answer her question. It wasn't an easy one to answer for most.

Another smile came to her lips as she gave a subtle flick of her tail. "Then I will tell you. Children leave their parents because they wish to make a life of their own. To make it in the world they need to be independent. Some children are more so than others and it might seem like they have abandoned you. But they never do." She nibbled on her bottom lip before continuing.

"If all my children were so dependent upon me all the time I don't know what I would do. I would probably go crazy and they would never strike it out on their own. Make their own friends and find their own loves to start a family with. Create their own lives. They do not leave wishing to hurt us, they just need their space and freedom to do as they wish without the watchful eye of their parents on them all the time." Giving a toss of her head, she winked at him. "In the end though they will find their way back to us when they need us the most. And as parents we should be here all the time for them whether in person or in spirit. As long as they know we love them and want the best for them and are there for them when they need us is all that really matters in the end."

Glancing up at the sky, she sighed lightly. Hoping that her words made sense. "If none of us had ever left our parent's once we were older I don't believe anyone would be where they are today. As a parent it might be hard to understand that, but you yourself were once a child to. Do you see what I mean?" Chu tilted her head once more, raising an eyebrow at him in question.

As she spoke it seemed that she did not understand. What she said made sense but only for if a child was grown. Ijn was still a foal and one who had rarely left her home on top of that. He wouldn't call her independent at all.

"I do see what you mean...however..." He paused and looked at her for a moment. She seemed wise and didn't seem like that type that would make matters worse for him or make fun of him. He couldn't be sure of that though he also did not want to ruin her day or make her worry over his situation. He could handle it he was sure he would just have to find them again.

"...Ijn...she's not grown." He said looking to the ground feeling rather pathetic for having let this happen. "She only just left her basket recently...and she left."
