The day was lovely, perfect for the late summer. A soft breeze blowing through the trees, their leaves fluttering about, whispering laughter drifting in the warm air. The beautiful weather only served to irritate Rigor Mortis all the more. He was never in what one could call a pleasant or kind mood, but he had woken today in a particularly foul disposition, and hadn't made any sort of effort to shake it off. The bone-marked Unicorn huffed out a long-suffering sigh, and stepped away from the small clearing he had claimed as his bed the previous night, thinking that perhaps the constant noise of the forest and it's inhabitants might be contributing to his grumpy mood.
The sun slid it's rays over him, and for a moment, he enjoyed the contrast of coming from within the cool woods, out into a sun-warmed field. But soon his irritation was returning, and he was stamping at the ground as he wandered aimlessly, a soft snarl coming from him, a verbal expression of his frustration at... whatever it was that was bother him. He was desperate for interaction... Perhaps even a fight, if he could coax another Soquili into it. It seemed so many were so... meek and timid. He snorted, shaking his head, his multi-colored braids shifting as he did so.

Meek and timid were not words that could be linked to the honey dappled mare. Despite her petite form, her eerie calmness and self restraint were enough to cause discomfort to all those with a brash nature. It wasn't her intention to make them feel uncomfortable, nor did she strive to prove a point in possessing such a skill but it always happened regardless. It seemed that many years under the influence of an oppressive and ridiculously 'political' herd had served only to condition her to the otherwise questionable natures that many Soquili in the Kawani possessed. Flighty and brash behaviour didn't survive where she came from, logical thought processes and diplomacy did.
Thus, while she was able to savour the warmth of the sun's rays upon her glossy coat she would not afford herself the time to 'coo' at its beauty. She was of course proud of how she looked - she possessed no 'unique' qualities that so many pursued but she made up for it in intelligence. However, for one to be distracted by their own quirks and good (or bad) points was a terrible thing. She had long since learned that distractions opened one up to attack and left a number of points vulnerable. Not one to ignore such a risk, she merely accepted what she was and continued on.
Ever the inquisitive mare it wasn't long before she had breached the forest's edge and began to wade her way through the long grasses of the meadow. Given her small form, the dapple mare was all but swallowed up by the grasses that threatened to reach the very peak of her neck. It was no wonder that so many misjudged her, she wasn't a pony but she wasn't exactly a thoroughbred either! Aha, but at least her height permitted the long grasses to provide a reasonable amount of shade - this was at least something she had over everyone else.
With the exception of intelligence and a keen eye.
Of course.
Nevertheless swivelling her ears round as she walked, she took into account the sounds that continued to invade her senses. Having arrived in the winter months when the world was considerably more quiet, it hadn't taken the mare long to realise that the summer was much louder. Luckily she had learnt to drown out most of the sounds, but there were moments when even she didn't approve of them - for example, she didn't require an alarm clock.
This in mind she continued to make her way idly through the grasses with no particular direction in mind. Her eyes were still somewhat bleary, her intentions for the day otherwise unclear. No doubt in time she would decide upon a desirable activity but for the time being she would follow the habit of all of her kind (or at least most of them) and locate both a suitable feeding and drinking ground for the days musings...
