So far as she was concerned, today was to be a day like any other. Elysia had left for work early that morning (as usual) for the long commute to the Isle de Gambino, and, as usual (at least since Aderpresse had insisted she was capable of being home alone) she had the run of the house. Of course, she didn't have to STAY in the house... So long as she brought along her cellphone, and was home before it started to get dark... Elysia could be SO paranoid... But could anyone blame her? The two lived alone in one of the shabbier parts of Durem- all that Elysia could afford, at the moment. It would have been so much easier on the both of them if Ely had managed to score the job at the Royal Durem Museum- even despite the fact they paid a little bit less; but what Elysia had to spend on travel to and from the island alone...

Elysia also seemed to harbor a slight distaste for island life- probably one of the reasons they hadn't moved there in the first place (that, and the costs of living there were astronomical- but then, that was common for islands) but none the less... Every day she left at quarter to six in the morning, and every night came home about a quarter after. Which meant during the summer when Aderpresse wasn't in school she had an awful lot of time on her hands.

And today, she planned to spend that time in the local pool. Local... Of course meaning a fifteen minute ride on public transit, or fourty five minutes of walking. Presse sometimes wished that her mother would just bite the bullet and buy a place closer to the ocean- she much preferred swimming in sea water to chlorinated pools, but... Well, money was tight, and for the moment, it just wasn't affordable. Somehow Presse still managed to be spoiled though- something about batting her big blue eyes at Elysia... And she would just bend over backwards. Of course, Presse only used this trick for the things she REALLY REALLLY wanted.... And sometimes Ely would say no.

But only if it was close to Presse's birthday, or Christmas, or Easter....

Yeah, Presse had it good.

And speaking of spoiled- she fished out the new bathing suit her surrogate mother had purchased for her with a small smile. The red bikini was just he sort of thing she liked- an elegant tie up that she did in little bows- yes, just right. Pulling this on, she wrapped a sarong around her middle, and stuffed a skirt, halter top, underwear and a towel in a bag, slid on her flip flops, and headed out the door. A quick flash of her swimming pass and a quarter for a locker later (it was required, especially on this end of Durem) and the gold fish was showered down and ready to take a leap into the deep end of the pool.

"HEY!"

The shriek was that of a young boy, around twelve or thirteen, who was running around the pool like his life depended on it. He was wearing a pair of bright red bathing shorts, arms flailing and a cackle on his lips and he was aimed right at Presse, although his gaze wasn't on her.

"HEY! Kian! Hey! Watch this! Watch what I'm - GAK!"

A dark figure jolted from the pool where it had been lurking amidst a crowd of seven or eight other boys, roughly around the firsts age. The figure moved too fast to be seen clearly until the boy was grabbed by his arm in a nearly brutal grip. Kian, in all his glory at five feet and four inches, was not pleased.

The boy started to whine but the noise tapered off to a mere whimper. He stared up (although just slightly) to his teacher, entire body starting to squirm under the harsh gaze of the alien.

"Kian, I was just gonna jump in-" He protested, the noise cut off abruptly by a thick flick of Kians tail. The childs jaw snapped shut obediently.

"You almost ran into this woman." Kian said, voice flat and unamused. "Ronald."

Ronald flinched again and turned wide puppy eyes over to Presse. Sure, he could have hit her if he kept running but he hadn't! Kian had stopped him.

"I - Sorry!" He yelped from another squeeze from Kians hand. "Sorry, sorry! I won't run into you or run anymore - geez, Kian, ow, I'm sorry!"

He released the young boy - who scurried into the water - and turned his main two eyes to Presse. The third was shifted over to keep watching the boys. Usually, he wouldn't have hurt the boy in that manner - or at all, really, maybe just a shove into the water - but he had been about to run into an unsuspecting person. Unacceptable.

"It will not happen again." His voice was firm. "He was not watching."

Aderpresse was entirely unaware of the approaching danger. She'd been minding her own business, heading towards the diving board to jump right on in- and if not for Kian's quick reaction, Presse would've been knocked headfirst into the pool, and instead of the elegant dive she was intending, it would have been more of a flailing flop!

And she definitely wouldn't have been pleased.

She whirled at the sound of Kian's voice so close behind her, and rose an eyebrow at what had unfolded while she'd unintentionally been off in la-la land.

She watched as the youngster scurried off, before her gaze moved to Kian, and she regarded him with a raised eyebrow.

"Thanks for that," she murmured, before gazing towards the small swarm of kids that were currently splashing about the pool beneath Kian's watchful gaze.

"While I like diving, I'm not inclined to going headfirst into the shallow end,"

She looked away again, and towards the diving board that had been her initial destination.
