The Archives & Historical Museum Well this section of the guild isn't really of much interest to anyone except maybe a few who actually want to read stuff in here. It's basically a collection of backups of threads, templates, posts or anything that I tend to need to refer to. So yep... that's basically it.

Welcome to Bubbleangela & Tamcharles' couple double quest thread. That's a mouthful ain't it? Ever since we first joined Gaia we've been amazed at some of the items that are out there. Many of them, sadly, are out of our reach... but that doesn't mean we'll give up. So here's the story! Since my darling has this thing for cute things and she didn't really like the Angelic Scarf anymore... It came to me, on Gaia the cutest item is AFK! And I figure if she wants to be super cute, I'll be super evil with a Devil Tail. Bwahahaha! We are now restarting a double quest for the both those items together. Like in real-life, it's always good to have a partner and we think Gaia is no different. We're going to try our best to work together on this and pool our gold to reach our goals. But when you compare it to how much gold we have together, we can't possible afford the rising prices. So as it stands, perhaps as a blatent display of chivalry, I decided that we'll both lay off other spending and focus on Angela's AFK. heart So if you have a free moment please BUMP and if you're feeling extra generous, please donate. Anything will help! Don't forget the sponsor links are located at the bottom! Might as well help yourself to some free gold while you're here. Thanks! ~ Charles & Angela heart :: NEWS UPDATES! :: Bubbleangela 18/08/05: Vending hasn't been as profitable for me as of late. But I'm still making some head way with my June 2004 investments. The prices have shot up about 8k in the past 4 days. My March 2004 haven't been as lucky with a small gain of a few k. I still have hope and I push on! 30/07/05: I've obtained a Sash! The offer was approximately 2.56 million in value. One step closer to my goal! 28/07/05: I've begun to liquidate all my investment assets to acquire an Angelic Sash (est. 2.5 million). It's going to be a tough little bit, but I think I can do it. 18/07/2005: Huge news to report! Empress Iris made a huge donation to our quest today. And I mean a combined 60k huge! So a big big thank-you is in order. On behalf of both Angela and I -- THANKS! 10/07/2005: The GCG is back! And as such I'm revaluing my offer and my quest. I'm now sitting at 54.328% of my quest total based on upper GCG values. 09/07/2005: No real news to report, just fighting the good fight against price rises. Like those KiKi's jumping up a few days ago... crraaazzzy. 01/07/2005: Happy Canada's Day from Bubbleangela and Tamcharles! 26/06/2005: Well it seems that although the price of the DTail seems to have held steady for the past little while all is not good as far as this double quest goes. The value of my 2004 Collection (containing both donation items as explained in the last post) has dropped approximately ~200k in value. As a result in conjunection with the other items in my investment stash (which holds the value of my DTail offers), I've lost about ~300k in total value. However I do have good news, hence saving it for last! A friend of mine, ex-questor and helpful bumper, Ma-Ajmala, has completed her Angelic Sash quest today thanks to a generous seller. Just click this link to visit her thread . As envious as I am, I'm also very happy for her. See? Good things to happen to good people. 20/06/2005: Well, I finally took the time to update everything here. DT's are now sitting at 5.1 Million (having doubled since March05). And I have an offer that's 3 months late. Ah well... razz Anyways, I would love your feedback on this next matter (post in the thread please). Should I use my 2004 Collection (it contains both donation items for each month of 2004 + all 2004 Event Items) as part of my DT offer? I estimate that it would be valued at around 3 Million, however I'll double check to be sure. What do you think? Should I? Thanks in advance. 17/06/2005: It's fixed! It's fixed! Editting of this post has been fixed! Stay tuned for updates when I get off work! biggrin 27/03/2005: Oh why oh why did the DT jump to 2.4 Million. My hopes of owning the said item has been dashed! 22/03/2005: I had to stop vending/exchanging on the 18th due to a dupe exploit but I'm back now. biggrin 14/03/2005: Just obtained an AFK for Angela! 332k to Lachesia! Thanks! She also donated to my quest as well! biggrin 13/03/2005: AFK prices are now at 315k+. Transferring funds to DTail quest. 10/03/2005: The AFK prices have jumped by 20k and now sits at 310k+. We were so close... so close. 04/03/2005: Angela and I have decided to abandon our NM/Angelic Scarf Quest and transfer focus on obtaining the AFK & Devil Tail as part as our new couple quest. Of course, proceeds from the previous quest will be used for this new quest. 25/02/2005 : The 2003 Angelic Scarf just jumped to 225k+ now but the GEN is still quoting 186k from Feb 6. Useless GEN. GCG all the way. 14/02/2005 : Happy Valentines Day! heart 07/02/2005 : Well I'll cut to the chase, I've obtained the NM Scarf so now we're going to work on Angela's Angelic Scarf. 01/02/2005 : Well I know we said that we might not be able to do it anymore but, here we are... still. The price has shot up a little bit again since the last update. This still feels like a losing battle. Oh well... sad 26/01/2005 : I don't think we can do it anymore... In the last 24 hours the combined value of the two Dec04 Scarves have jumped 13,000g in price. Sadly, both Charles and I don't think we can keep this going anymore. Thanks to all who donated but at this rate, we can't keep up. Our combined vending doesn't even hold up to the value appreciation -- oh well cry . 25/01/2005 : Ahhh, we're all blind! These new donation items rock! If you haven't seem them yet -- take a blinding gander at our avatars. It's like a Star Trek transporter xd . 18/01/2005 : Updated our little welcome rant and thank-you for the donations! It's very appreciated! 16/01/2005 : Thanks again for the donations everyone! Your so generous smile . And a very specialized thanks goes out to R. Aideial and Alexi_Jameson for their donations of 10,000g and 20,000g respectively! WOW! whee On a more serious note though, the prices have risen yet again... 15/01/2005 : Thanks for the donations everyone! Your so kind smile . Best of luck to all of you in your own quests! 12/01/2005 : Well I hope you like the new spiffed up layout! This is the start of our new quest for both of the December 2003 donation items. That's right, those elusive Nitemare & Angelic Scarves! Thanks to all the bumpers so far! And feel free to have conversations in here! We both don't mind! ENJOY! smile 01/01/2005 : Happy New Year! Best wishes go out to everyone! smile 25/12/2004 : Merry Christmas! ... *pants*... We'd honestly sing for you guys but we've been making our way around Gaia singing for all the storekeepers! How come they don't sing back to us? biggrin 20/12/2004 : Bubbleangela has recieved her Fairy Wings! Tamcharles has recieved his EMO Bag! Thanks everyone for helping out on these two quests! blaugh 11/11/2004 : A moment of silence to remember and respect please... Lest we forget. 31/10/2004 : Happy Halloween everyon... ahhh zombies! Give back my labcoat... grrr... they ripped and bloodied it. surprised 13/10/2004 : Added sponsor links as our way of saying thanks to all the bumpers! 12/10/2004 : The official start of our questing! I can't believe I wasted so much time today. Stupid Bekita inspiring me to vend! sad But check out the, BekitaExchangeWhore Contest! URL: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6333119They were given clean accounts with only 1,000k to start with. Lots of rules like no donations, selling store items above store price, etc. But get this, Alexi_Jameson made +200,000 in one day and broke +1,000,000g in just 3 days! Go read her journal for yourself. She's the 6th post the contest thread, her contest account is "BekitaExchangeWhore6." Keep checking the thread... the 1st Round just ended and it's being tallied up as we speak! *so exciting!* xd Anyways, reading all that inspired me to give it a try too (but screw starting at 1,000g) : Transaction 1 - 08:38 PM 07/03/2005 letter nov. 04 3.5k 2 letter dec. 04 3.5k letter may. 04 2.5k letter jan. 05 3.8k 6 letter feb. 05 5.0k = 46.8k (purchased for 40k) Profit: +6.8k Transaction 2 - 08:55 PM 07/03/2005 8 letter mar. 05 4.5k = 36k (purchased for 33k) Profit: +3.0k Transaction 3 - 09:12 PM 07/03/2005 letter dec. 04 3.5k = 3.5k (sold for 4k) Profit: +0.5k Transaction 4 - 09:26 PM 07/03/2005 letter dec. 04 3.5k = 3.5k (sold for 4k) Profit: +0.5k Transaction 5 - 09:45 PM 07/03/2005 letter nov. 04 3.5 letter may. 04 2.5 letter jan. 05 3.8 = 9.8k (sold for 10k) Profit: +0.2k Transaction 6 - 10:10 PM 07/03/2005 2 letter mar. 05 4.5k = 9k (purchased for 8k) Profit: +1.0k Transaction 7 - 11:06 PM 07/03/2005 letter feb. 04 10k = 10k (sold for 12k) Profit: +2.0k Transaction 8 - 11:23 PM 07/03/2005 3 letter feb. 05 5.0k = 15.0k (sold for 18.3k) Profit: +3.3k Transaction 9 - IN PROGRESS 3 letter feb. 05 5.0k = 15.0k (in vend for 18.3k) Profit: N/A Summary For today, 07/03/2005: Expenses: -81.0k Income (cash): +56.3k Income (inv): +45k Total Profit: +20.3k Blah, so roughly after wasting 4 hours of my life I made 20k. How sad... but gimme a break. The vend is still dead so this was almost pure Exchange. sweatdrop Back to lab now... gonk crying Quote: Posted: Sat Jan 22, 2005 @ 4:03 pm 0 Comments [add] Science = 1 drill, 2 hours, -30C degrees, 52km/h winds! I'm back from my field trip. We went all the way up to Crawford Lake to take sediment cores. Being a kettle lake and all, it had no bi-annual turnover so that made it a perfect location for the sampling. It was an hour and twenty-five minute bus ride up there. It's actually nearing Guelph (by Campbellville and Milton). After getting there, we had to hike up to the lake in nearly a foot of blowing snow. Visibility was a luxury we didn't have... but we pressed on. Since I was part of the drill team, we had to go out to the center of the ice and start drilling. The ice was approx. 8-10 inches thick and we manually drilled (no sophisticated machinery here) to a depth of 8-10 meters. Imagine 5-6 guys carrying this massive drill bit out onto a frozen lake... safety comes second to science when you're an undergrad. We made two drill attempts, since the first time, we botched our sample somehow. While setting up again for the second sample, we ran into problems with the drill. It had iced up and we couldn't set it up. I got out my knife and started chipping away at it -- that's all we had. Eventually the TA brought back a tool kit. In total, it took us 2 whole frost-bitten hours of setting up and drilling. The field instruments recorded a temperature outside of at least -17°C degrees (and a calculated wind-chill of at least -30°C degrees!) And I don't need to tell you just how much worse it felt to be dead center of a flat lake! The wind gusts were recorded to be approx. 52km/h and there was no cover of any sort nearby!!! After all that, we made the hike back for lunch and we resumed for a tour of the area. Apparently it was an old Iroquoi settlement and we visited a recreation of the longhouses that used to exist there. I don't need to explain that those places weren't heated either. Anyways, we'll be doing analysis on the core next Wednesday and I'm hoping that our core isn't a dud. There better be some ancient pollens in there!!! All in all, it was pretty fun, exhausting and very cold. It gave me a whole new perspective on field biology. There was only one person who had to return early due to hypothermia. Apparently the girl and a thyroid disorder and couldn't regulate her body temperature properly. But anyways, I'm home now and the feelings are coming back to my legs! Bringing everyone up-to-date... Here's an essay I wrote a few months ago as an opinion peice in my psycholinguistics course. 3nodding Quote: Bilingualism, Not So Beneficial: A comparison of monolingual and bilingual child language acquisition
By: Charles Tam Parents have always sought to provide advantages to their children. Some plan out the week of their children to include for enrichment courses such as language immersion programs and other such settings. Studies have shown that there are differences in young children who acquire one-language (monolinguals) compared to those who acquire two-languages (bilinguals). It has been discussed that bilingualism imparts mostly phonological benefits in the short-term and over the long-term, cognitive benefits to those students. However, it is this pretence to begin with this is an observation, after your discussion it might be a pretence, but not yet that has prompted parents to consistently encourage such programs even when the results are inconclusive. Parents and scholars some scholars have a reason to believe this depending on their data, alike often believe that bilingualism (is usually associated with early learning) will increase cognitive abilities in children. As mentioned before, past studies do show just that, however there have been many inconsistencies in the studies of bilingualism versus monolingualism. As such, there exist many currently debated issues which still need to be addressed. Bilingualism is often a desired trait and is considered to be prestigious and impressive. Perhaps to the dismay of ambitious parents, studies are now showing that cognitive benefit conveyed by bilingualism may be short-lived and that overall, there is no general cognitive benefit to bilingualism as previously thought. Meta-linguistic awareness and phonological awarenessIt has been asked whether or not bilingualism affects a child’s ability to acquire language compared to the progress of a monolingual child. Monolingual children have been shown to acquire language in stages as suggested by Gleason & Ratner (199 cool . There are many theories about child language acquisition, to briefly summarize; children will first enter a holophrastic stage in which they use single word sentences (usually a content word). After which, they will start to develop telegraphic speech and will acquire the ability to show possession. After that stage, children will then learn to use conjunctions to create compound sentences to eventually acquire the ability to paraphrase.good recap of Child language acquisition. Bilingual children at the same level have been shown to display similar stages, however it was noticed that they also displayed advanced meta-linguistic awareness over their monolingual peers as explained by Bialystok (as cited in Chen et al., 2004). The results of the study explain that “[bilingual children] have more advanced word awareness and syntactic awareness and usually show an advantage in phonological awareness as well” (Chen et al., 2004, p. 150). This was supported by a previous study by Rubin and Turner (as cited in Chen et al., 2004) who found that first grade English-speaking students in a French immersion program had greater phoneme segmentation skill than their peers in an English program. Chen then explains that the advantage conveyed by bilingualism is a natural consequence of learning more than one language at a young age. He points out that there is a contrasting effect between the languages which makes bilingual children more attentive to the phonological form of the words. Wagner et al. (as cited in Bialystok, Majumder, & Martin, 2003) also found that there were advantages in bilingual subjects which contributed towards increased phonological awareness. It should also be noted that in the study by Chen et al. (2004), they found that having richer phonetic input seemed to convey advanced phonological awareness early on, this effect was short-lived and that by the fourth grade, the monolingual children had caught up. A similar effect which lends support for the above observation, identifies that differences between monolingual children and bilingual children had disappeared over time were also observed by Bialystok et al., (2003) in their studies. An observable general consensus among the above studies is that there are advantages conveyed by bilingualism, although still debatable, the increased awareness effects did level off. Is it possible that this increased awareness during the initial stages of bilingual language acquisition may be crucial in some way even though such differences dissolve later. Additionally, by 4 years these children may be comparable, with the one huge and obvious difference that a bilingual child can speak an additional language, which then can contribute to other (e.g., social) advantages. Possible detrimental effectsAnother topic often debated when comparing bilingualism and monolingualism is whether or not having to learn two languages (double the workload) has a detrimental effect on language acquisition in one or both of the languages. It has been suggested that learning two languages in childhood is not the same as learning one language and has been implied to result in delays in language development (Paradis, Crago, Genesee, & Rice, 2003). They found that when learning two languages, the languages often did not develop in perfect synchrony. Genesee et al. (as cited in Paradis et al., 2003) found that one language would exhibit dominance over the other. This dominance was not restricted and was also observed to change over time depending on input from the child’s environment. Paradis et al. (2003) elaborated on the subject to suggest that this dominance indicates that bilingual children may have less exposure to each of the languages, as compared to a monolingual child. However, this was not supported by their study in which a monolingual group and a bilingual group were compared by using coded spontaneous language samples. After analysis it was concluded that bilingual children displayed difficulties in morphosyntax (tense) which were also observed in monolingual children. Other factors were found to show no differences and this lead the authors of this study to suggest that bilingual language learning does not interfere with the overall course of language acquisition (Paradis et al., 2003). Optimal period for second language acquisitionThere have also been arguments regarding bilingualism versus monolingualism suggesting that normal language acquisition must occur only in early childhood. Manis, Lindsey, & Bailey, (2004) also addressed this critical period hypothesis. They found that maintained exposure to phonological sounds in early childhood that were particular to a language being acquired would allow for those children to learn the sounds of multiple languages when exposed to them. In bilingual children, Kormi-Nouri, Moniri, & Nilsson, (2003) found that when comparing with monolingual children, having to identify two sets of speech sounds was advantageous as the integration of the two languages in children allowed for better semantic and episodic memory. The also found that this advantage decreased with age and in older speakers learning a second language. In both studies the critical period was suggested to end around school-age; providing support for observations found by Chen et al., (2004) that the differences between the two groups would eventually decline. In all three studies (Manis et al., 2004; Kormi-Nouri et al., 2003; & Chen et al., 2004), it was found that there was support for the critical period hypothesis. Age differences in relation to performance were also observed, children did acquire a second language better when the learning was done at a younger age. However as mentioned previously, the cognitive advantages were shown to eventually reach similar levels in both types of children. It’s good to see that you are comparing across studies. To give some additional information to the readers, I would encourage you to provide some additional information regarding subject number, age range, and data collection methods. Equal competence in both languagesIt has been suggested that teachers and linguists alike have argued that there is a transfer effect involved from the first language to the second language. This issue was partially addressed in the study published by Kormi-Nouri et al., (2003). They found that in their study, as the bilingual children aged, it was observed that there was not equal competence in both languages. This was similar to the observations and suggestions made by Paradis et al., (2003). The bilingual students developed their first language less than their second language, and in the comparison studies out performed the monolingual students. They found that the cognitive studies suggest that, “knowing a second language extends rather than diminishes the individual’s capabilities” (Kormi-Nouri et al., 2003, p. 51). It is then reasonable to interpret the results such that learning a second language confers a positive benefit rather than creating problem by giving that person access to situations and experiences that are unique to a bilingual person (Kormi-Nouri et al., 2003). This is also in agreement with some of the results presented by Chen et al., (2004) in which he found that learning a second language also confer a benefit (albeit short-lived) which allows the bilingual children to manipulate phonological units better than their monolingual counterparts. However to offer a countering opinion, both Paradis et al., (2003) & Bialystok et al., (2003) found that there were no clear and consistent advantageous effects provided by bilingualism. Based on their results of the children’s performance, they ruled out a conclusion about a general bilingual advantage. Two opposing views and suggestions for further researchIn conclusion, as most of these studies have shown (and even within this limited comparison); language acquisition within bilingualism and monolingualism is still being debated. We can see that there are studies which point in opposing directions. There are many theories and studies that have suggested that bilingual benefits may initially be present until monolingual students catch up (Chen et al., 2003). In the same vein, it has also been reported that students, regardless of a bilingual or monolingual nature, showed the same progress when considering the overall course of language acquisition (Paradis et al., 2003). A more optimistic suggestion found that second language acquisition confers more benefits than hindrances (Kormi-Nouri et al., 2003). Finally, contrary to the optimistic view, Bialystok et al., (2003) found that there were no advantageous effects provided by bilingualism. These conclusions, although each of due merit, are obviously in contention with each other. As Gleason & Ratner (199 cool noted, the disagreements and contrasting conclusions by researchers on the topic, reflect their interests in the different perspectives of bilingualism and second language acquisition. To address these differences and disagreements, there obviously exists a need for further research into this topic. As suggested by Gleason & Ratner (199 cool , that future research will need to consolidate the differing perspectives to ensure a more holistic approach that considers the learner, the environment and the broader contexts of language acquisition. Another suggestion that seems appropriate for further research in this topic would be to address the bilingual and monolingual interactions in more than just one group of students. In many of the studies, it was observed that the subjects were either learning two mutually unintelligible dialects of Chinese (Chen et al., 2004), the languages of Swedish and Persian (Kormi-Nouri et al., 2003), or the languages of French and English (Bialystok et al., 2003; & Paradis et al., 2003). The interactions observed and conclusions derived from the above studies could have been unique to those combinations of languages. Another approach would be necessary to identify the deep-seated principles that could have remained hidden meaning?. Lastly, nearly all of the above studies indicated that there were one or more serious control issues Again, the reader would have been able to assess this as well if more informormation had been provided . For example, the researchers could not reasonably control language exposure outside of observation (in home for example). Again another approach (perhaps the holistic approach suggested by Gleason) is necessary to perhaps work-around or diminish the effect of these control issues. It is reasonable to assume that this topic will likely remain hotly debated, if not among academia then among ambitious parents. In the meanwhile, it will be very interesting to see just who gets the last say. References: Bialystok, E., Majumder, S., & Martin, M. M. (2003). Research methods short essay. 3nodding Quote: Gender Differences In Carrying Objects: An investigation of vestige effects of evolutionary sexual dimorphism
By: Charles Tam Do males and females carry books differently? I first noticed this while I was walking back from a lecture. So being the nerd that I am, I took advantage of my school's library and did some research. Interestingly enough, this question has been the subject of several research studies. Anyways, Jenni (1976) and Hanaway & Burghardt (1976) found that males generally carry books to their side in one hand in contrast to females who typically carry books against their bodies with one or both arms. These sex differences in book-carrying behavior appear to be consistent both within individuals and across cultures (Jenni, 1976). These differences held up even when the grip strength of the individual, the size of the load to be carried, or book weight varied (Jenni, 1976; Spottswood & Burghardt, 1876). However, females were less consistent than males in the book-carrying method they employed and were more likely to vary the method with the size of the load carried (Jenni, 1976). My own theory (if you will) was somewhat different -- being far more anthropological. I think the possibility is that the difference represents an evolutionary adaptation, preparing females since the Stone Age times to carry babies for greater support and warmth. Also, one would expect that same finding if the greater pelvic width of adult females makes the bent-arm posture more comfortable. For males we could speculate, maybe they prefer to have one hand free for whatever, fighting off a predator while they carry home the kill. Of course, this is my own speculation and is only indirectly supported by the literature. This theory is not without its own intrinsic flaw. It was suggested by a colleague, that in some small scale societies, women do the hunting and men do the gathering. In this case, women are not the ones doing the chores, they are the ones hunting and carrying home the kill. The men in these societies do the chores and do some things lighter (Pandora002, personal communication, November 6, 2004). The anthropologic theory, at this point, cannot address that particular claim. However, considering the literature, it could be argued that in the majority of recorded cases, it seems that males were most often the hunters and the females were the gatherers. It is also suggested in literature by Bailey (1983), that when lost; men and women will use different methods to find their way. We know that hunting is long distance and involves tracking and following prey. It's also known that gathering is more of a local job, albeit far reaching, but not to the same extent of hunting. Women will use a tactic employing landmarks (best for localized "gathering") whereas the men would employ a tactic of generalized direction keeping (best for long distance "hunting"). While this doesn't necessarily support my theory directly, it indirectly suggests a generalized gender bias for hunting versus gathering. Given that a gender bias exists, regardless of who actually does what, it has been generalized in the literature that perhaps females are most typically the gatherers (Gardner, 1972). Of course, I shouldn't underestimate the power of culture and socialization (however those are areas that I do not have a background in.) Another possibility for this difference in carrying behaviour could be due to mechanical advantage. For instance, male and female body proportions are different. More to the point, men and women are anatomically different with respect to their hips. Men have a nearly "straight up and down" waist structure while women have hips that protrude outward from their waist to give more of an "hourglass" figure (Guanobaron, personal communication, October 20, 2004). To address this point, perhaps the observation needs to be made with young children before the onset of puberty. In young children (pre-pubescent), it has been noted in the literature that the allometric body-shape is relatively similar. Sadly, I was unable to find literature on this particular subject in regards to children. Obviously, we would need further testing to assess the potential confound of body-shape. In the meanwhile, based primarily on personal experience, I've always carried my books that way -- even before puberty. Look around the next time you go to school or think of your own behaviour. Do females adopt rather defensive postures, the typical against the body with one or two arms? Or do males try to impress somebody by carrying things to the side with one arm? Or perhaps the evolutionary theory might be more accurate. Do you notice the same for children before body-shape becomes a factor? Can anyone shed some more insight on this? I'm interested in hearing your opinions on the topic. References: Bailey, G. (1983). Hunter-Gatherer Behavious in Prehistory: Problems and Perspectives. tamcharles tamcharles Buy my Onyx Scepter and you'll be my friend, so bring the pure and items, then the trade I'll send.
I just want to sell it, for little profit in the end, my price is so much better, than any in the vend.
So consider this item, as an investment of sorts, seriously great value, for that there's no retort.
I must leave now, and I do so with this bump, make a good offer or I'll kick you in the rump!
Rump Bump! 3nodding xd Bump for my poem and a bump for my thread, I'm getting really sleepy but I refuse to goto bed. Vending is important, more important than sleep, because if I goto sleep then I'll miss something cheap. The curse of the vender is one of great need, the need for misprices and a need for greed. So consider this item, I'm not a bad guy, I don't think you'll regret it if you choose to buy! biggrin

CONFIDENTIAL Quote: Alexi and Kagen, RE: Inuyasha_1516 (aka. Kira Morris, MSN: inuyasha_1516@hotmail.com) http://www.gaiaonline.com/sunburn/profile.php?view=profile.ShowProfile&item=2642002 Guys here's something interesting about our newest GCG member. I know we were all skeptical about her but now I have proof and I'm very against her in such a prominent position of the GCG. Frankly, she's a liar and that's not even the tip of the iceburg. Quote: Alexi and Kagen, I'm sending this with a certain apprehension as I hate to play the devil's advocate, however I have some pressing concerns about having Inuyasha_1516 in such a high-exposure position that is prominent with the GCG. While I appreciate her dedication and enthusiasm, it seems that she needs to learn to exercise some restraint and present herself to be a little more cordial. Although she seems to be sufficiently diciplined in the Forums, it's her conduct elsewhere that concerns me. Lately, I've been watching her in the Casino and Towns and her behavior is unbecoming to say the least. Although not technically violating the ToS or R&G, insulting, flaming and generally being rude to users isn't appropriate especially when it's the "GCG Casino Room". She seems to enjoy criticizing and belittling other users. Perhaps in fun, however I would wager that the joke is lost on most involved. As it was lost on myself and on my brother. You mentioned that she is rather overzealous and I would have to agree, perhaps even adding uncouth. I know she's doing lots of work for the GCG and that those contributions are invaluable but I fear that her behavior can become associated with the GCG as a whole. I can't stress it enough that the damage to the established GCG reputation would be irreparable. As of yet, I have not brought this up with her and I figured it would be better to wait. In the meanwhile, perhaps we can better discuss this in your SafeHaven. Assuming of course that this concerns you as well. Perhaps I'm over-reacting and perhaps I'm expecting too much but personally I can't justify bad PR or even the risk of it for any reason. I'll leave the big decisions to you man, I'll respect your judgement. Just get back to me when you can. Alexi_Jameson Sunday, November 13th I have an announcement to make about staffing here at GCG. While I was quite happy that there was someone who was interested in helping me out with Graphics and with the Commons, and was on enough that she was able to do the job, I have decided that having Inuyasha_1516 on the GCG team is not a good idea, at least as VP. I have thus authorized demoting her as I feel that her involvement in this guide would hurt it internally as well as be a conflict of interest, since she seems to want a lot of control over -everything- in the guide. I feel that if she wants a guide she should make one herself. Other things have factored into this including some conversations she's had with staff that includes exaggerated or fabricated material, and conversations she's had with me with similar material. Conduct like this is not to be tolerated. Additionally, I have been notified that Inu's leave from EVIL was...how shall we say this...filled with rather horrendous actions and incidents, and that he has been trying to get into Lucky DEVIL and Teh Guide by way of infiltration. From this point forward, any potential staff members will be screened and more than likely, I will only be accepting help from people I know in the exchange and people who are in friendly relations with me already. I will write a staff conduct set of rules at some point, especially something about executive conduct. For now, I have asked -Misled Sarah- to take the vacant duties of updating Commons. For Graphics, I may have to think about someone to offer the position to if at all. I'd really like some nice professional looking graphics, but not at the expense of the guide's integrity and respectability. Quote: Monday, November 15th Alexi, Kagen and I conferred regarding proper actions before banning you. The decision was unianimous. They had their reasons and I have mine. Frankly speaking, your lying about credentials did not go un-noticed. For the most part, I merely played along in order to collect more information. I don't understand why you need to make up stuff about yourself, you had sufficient skills to do the job and you through your work, you had the merit to keep it. However that is no longer valid anymore. If you are going to falsify your credentials, at least make an effort to properly represent it. In my field of study, I often work together with post-doctorate fellows, and PhD candidates. None of them speak so childishly like yourself. All of those people were familiar with what a dissertation, CV and most importantly what it entailed. You had no idea. You claim you have training in Web Mastering at Princeton. You forget that at my university, I can also access print materials to check on programs/degrees that are issued. Yours is nowhere to be found. Finally, I felt very irritated by your lack of proper grammatical form and use of ALL CAPS. There was no point for you do type like that in your position. Also, being rude to other people from the very beginning (especially my brother) was not appropriate. Making fun of others; not acceptable in my books. Form is very important and had you acted seriously and in a professional manner, perhaps so much suspicion and distrust would not have found itself to you. In the future perhaps you can learn from this experience, as your Chatterbox-behavior is unfit for a position of prestige. I can continue with reasons for your ban ad nausaem, but I have made my point. I have no interest in maintaining contact with you at this time. In all my friends (online and offline), I respect proper form, sophistication, intelligence, proper language ability, and honesty. Finally... trust. You don't have my trust. You based your entire GCG existance on a lie... in my books that has blacklisted you for life. Don't bother replying via MSN or email as you have been ignore-listed on those mediums. If you wish to discuss this, please post in my quest thread (link in sig). If you have something to say -- say it in public. All correspondance prior to and from this point foward will be posted for public access. You have been warned. Cordially, Charles Lothereal I only saw a couple of her posts in the GCG thread, in which she was insisting in caps about having bugs in the commons guide. I'm extremely glad you demoted her - she was starting to freak me out~ x3 Likewise, I respect literacy and when I saw his/her posting style of demanding statements and ALL CAPS it really bothered me. It seemed uncouth and just plain aggressive at times. However, to end on a good note, she did start to realize that she couldn't act as "free" as she had earlier. EDIT: I read the update on the GCG Pg 1 and I am relieved. I've gone ahead and editted out the references on the main page of the guild and I've also moved her threads to the Recycle Bin. EDIT: Things have been cleared up. smile (Nov 19, 2005.) Inuyasha_1516 tamcharles Inuyasha_1516 tamcharles Inuyasha_1516 Unblock me in MSN? Im like the biggest a** ever. Actually I'm at Angela's house right now so I can't access my MSN. So there's nothing I can really do on that end right now. But I'll be back Monday morning. Last updated: 00:47 AM 17/12/2005. :: WELCOME! :: Tamcharles Hello friend! Since my darling has this thing for cute things and she didn't really like the Angelic Scarf or the AFK anymore... so she asked me for the Sash! I had recently completed my Devil Tail quest and I figured that it would be worthwhile to work at it again. I've done it once so we'll do it again. So like in real-life, hand-in-hand together, we are now restarting a double quest for the October 2003 Angelic Sash. It's always good to have a partner and we think Gaia is no different. We're going to try our best to work together on this and pool our gold to reach our goals. So if you have a free moment please BUMP and if you're feeling extra generous, please donate. Anything will help! Don't forget the sponsor links are located at the bottom! Might as well help yourself to some free gold while you're here. :: WELCOME! ::
Hello friend!
Thanks!
~ Charles & Angela
