Slash tremolo bar.
I've had one since I bought this guitar, and I haven't a clue how to use it. I just took it off because it was getting in my way. I'd kind of like to know how, because I'm getting a new guitar [whenever it gets here], and one of its key features is being able to withstand 'ungodly whammy abuse'.
Also, I'm not sure if this section of the thread belongs in this subforum. Terribly sorry if I'm wrong!

Also, next year, I'm building a guitar for a school project [short version: I'm in a class where I get to do a project of my own choice, so I'm studying guitar physics and building my own dream guitar.] and I'd like to get a few tips. Just things I should keep in mind, how not to screw it up or kill myself in the process, sweet pickups [thinking humbuckers] or other stuff that would be cool to have in it. Ideas, pretty much. Inspiration. Hardware, colours, good finish brands, etc.
I'm probably going to end up buying the neck and fretboard, and probably the body from warmoth. Part of the fun of the project will being to learn about all the different tonal qualities of the woods and bridges and such and trying to put together something that sounds good. The only reason I don't want to make the neck by hand is mostly the fretboard; I'm horrified at the thought of f*cking it up. Then it won't sound good or accurate, and it will be a nightmare. Plus I don't have all the resources to be able to fret the thing or anything like that. And I only have one semester, so any tedious stuff that can be avoided will leave more time for my actual oral presentation/ demonstration.
And, I live in Canada, on Vancouver Island, if you must know, and I have never heard of a place here that sells instrument-quality wood. I'd probably have to have it shipped in at a high cost, so why not just go the whole nine yards and buy something that's ready to go?
I'm going to be wiring the whole thing myself, so... ehh, yeah. Any warnings, advice, etc. are greatly appreciated in this department especially, as... I've never done anything electrical :] I have a book, and a few people around me who may know what they're doing when I sure don't.
Also: pickguard vs. no pickguard; what say you? I personally don't like pickguards, I think they distract from the instrument, but do they affect the tone at all?
I think that's pretty much anything. Thanks in advance for any and all help or anything in this... quest of mine.

Part three! D; Getting there.
I'm also looking to get a pedal pretty soon. After talking to a guy at the music shop, and asking me what kind of sound I'm going for [a rock or metal sound, mostly] he suggested a... Metal Zone or Metal-something pedal. I can't quite remember much name-wise. Has anyone played this kind? Is it decent? What are some things I should be looking for when purchasing a pedal?
It's a little sad that I've never used a pedal in five years.
I also might be looking for a new amp... one that works better than this one. This one makes weird beeps and noises and is quite staticy D: Any good names you can suggest for small yet powerful amps are loved. Small, because the space I have to work with in my room is slim to none.
Thanks again.
