WARNING!! Severe Reading Ahead!

Who This RP Is For::
  • Die Hard Gargoyle Fans... you know who you are. Come, enjoy yourselves and relish in the company of your kindred. It's not Gathering of the Gargs, but it's just as good!
  • Players who formulate theories on how events might have gone with a different character involved, and follow that train of thought through to the end.
  • Open minded semi-literate-adv. literate RPers willing to help other RPers improve and contribute meaningfully to the community.
  • Open minded new RPers who are interested in improving while having fun playing a source they enjoy.
  • Intense thought-provoking Mary-Sue Free fan-fic writers who are looking for an outlet, or inspiration/usage for their next story or character.
  • Creative and thoughtful players who have interesting ideas that they are willing to share.
  • Players who have played (or are playing) in Pandangel Projects before this one, and know & love the kind of quality RP that we provide.
  • Players who are fans of a character, not what the character has done. The type of player who looks at an inter-action and says "I understand that" not just "oh, that was cool!"

Who This RP Is NOT For::
  • Elitist RPers who would rather demand a novel out of other players rather than help them grow and find a compromise. We are not writing a book, we are having fun.
  • Mary-Sue players, meaning: Self-insertions, Characters that can't function if they aren't connected heavily to another character, Characters that make canon characters obsolete or overshadowed, etc.
  • Players who are unwilling to help other players, or contribute to the community of the RP. Especially if those players are then going to gripe about the RP not going in a way they'd like.
  • Obsessive and argumentative fans... if you think a character 'belongs to you', and it will upset you to see them played by or playing with someone else... you may want to pass this RP up rather than argue with our crew about your rights over a character.
  • People who are unreasonably opposed to the Source Content, or Pandangel Projects/Crew. Flamers and trolls will be dealt with swiftly.

Our Goals As An RP::
  • To create a deep and expanded plotline based on but not limited by the source content. Much like Weisman's new comic line, we will move beyond the series and continue the development of the characters and their stories.
  • To provide a deep and expanded plotline while keeping the fun aspect of the source material, and not demand that any player be asked to take things too seriously. Remember, just because our characters fight we're all still friends OOC.
  • To use thought and discussion and theories to build upon the established universe without being limited to it. Playing characters from the inside, rather than the outside... asking why and/or how a character does something, instead of just limiting ourselves to what we've seen them do.
  • To allow people to have fun playing as their favorite Gargoyle, or attempting to smash/save one..
  • To develop an environment that will be both a fun RP as well as a place to grow as an RPer. This should really be the goal of any RP. We really want the best players we can have, who are willing to help other players become as good as them.
  • And, as always... to grow as a Garg-tastic environment that shares many fond memories and delicious cake. Cake is not a lie!

Rules::
User Image

  1. This is what we at Pandangel RP like to call the "Don't Be A Douche-hat" rule. This is all the stuff that really really shouldn't have to be stated. Every RP on Gaia has these rules. Don't godmode, don't metagame, don't harass players, don't violate TOS, keep your posts clean of mature content... basically don't be a douche-hat. If you feel that somebody else is godmoding or harassing you or whatever, let a Crew know about it via PM with the page number it occurred on and the user who did it. Special Note: If I think you're doing something in my RP that's violating TOS then you'll be out of here faster than a Gargoyle wakes up.

  2. Read everything on the first page relevant to the RP before applying for the roleplay. Yes it's a lot to read, but this is a LITERATE roleplay, and if you can't even read this much information, you will not do well in Pandangel Roleplays. Things go quickly, plots change in single scenes, and we do not want to recap anyone just because they don't feel like reading 2-3 pages.

  3. No one knows who is in the Illuminati (okay okay, everyone knows David Xanatos is...), but you can pretend you're a member and look between the lines for secret codes here in the rules to make sure your applications are well received.

  4. Do not roleplay on the OOC thread!! Unless it's silly fun OOC play, but nothing plot affecting. And remember, on page 69, we'll have our famous picture post party!

  5. Oh! What fools these mortals be Your first time sending in a character application, the PM should be titled 'Angels of the Night'. When first they practice to deceive...

  6. You must apply characters using the forms in the following posts. We do not accept beggars for roles ("Can I be___plz!", etc). Begging gives one warning. Two warnings puts you on blacklist from participating. And yes, you must have a profile for your created character.

  7. Source Character Limit at this time is 4. However, there are certain special siderules to this. See the Canon application post for details. For createds: You may create as many as you like, but make sure you use them! If you can't handle that many characters, just play what you can handle.

  8. Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble. Make yourself known, and say hello to us on the OOC board before you apply a character. Fire burn and cauldron bubble....

  9. If for some reason you cannot or are unwilling to continue a scene within a span of 3 days at most (if you must take a leave of absence, or will not have internet access for a while, or just have horrendous writer's block), please notify one of the staff via PM or posting here and one of the following will occur:
    a. Your character will be skipped for the turn, or at your advance request removed from the scene entirely.
    b. Your character will be temp-posted by a Crew of your choosing until you are able to resume the role.
If you do not provide notice and your absence reaches more than two weeks, we will assume you quit the roleplay and the character will be handed to the next acceptable application or be removed from play in the case of created characters.

  10. Also, one of our goals is to encourage players to play a character from the inside, not the out. That means think about why a character has done the actions we've seen them do before, and not what we've seen them do before. While I strive to remain true to source, if we're just playing the same events we saw in the comics or cartoons... that'd get pretty boring. So really try to get inside a character so that they will be able to grow and adapt with the game as it goes.

Alright, so if you've lasted this long and this sounds like an RP you'd like to be a part of, hopefully you're still interested enough to read through the rest of this. This discussion/recruitment thread is for just that... discussing and recruiting before (and after) we begin roleplay. We want input and theories that can be developed into plots for the RP. Feel free to be as wild and creative (within reason) when tossing out your plans!

As with all Pandangel Projects, we run in Story-Arcs... this RP will begin with the first Story Arc, and the events that unfold will help develop the second Story Arc and that will develop into the Third Arc, etc. Meaning (potentially) you, our players, are just as responsible for helping forge plotlines and events as our hosts are. Unlike some other RP Hosts... you know who you are... we don't make very many demands on the way events unfold.

The Unofficial Rules! More advice than actual rules.
There are certain things that we're looking for in players. One such thing is villain-players that are capable of both working with the crew to guide storylines as well as plotting things on their own. If you play a villain, we will suggest things that we want the roleplay to start moving towards, but ultimately, the means to the end, as well as the end itself, will be up to your skill as a villain!!

Setting

Last time on Gargoyles...

User ImageThe Canmore Family' last three descendants have been jailed, hospitalized, or in Jon's case, vanished off the face of the Earth... Jason and Robyn have recently been cleared of any legal responsibility for the damages done by the 'Hunters' during their attempts to kill the Manhattan clan of gargoyles. In recent weeks, a group of disturbingly KKK-esque people who call themselves the Quarrymen have appeared on the streets of New York, preaching against the existence of gargoyles among humans. It is currently unknown where their funding is coming from, or who the leader of this organization is.

Baby Alexander is growing fast and his magics are developing rapidly. The world has been a quiet place with the recent absence of the Third Race on their retreat to Avalon, but Lord Oberon's whims can change at any time should he become bored, and all who are knowledgeable of the Fae's existence grow nervous as time elapses.

The Labyrinth is completely under Mutate control and being used as a well guarded homeless shelter. Talon and Maggie are working on teaching the clone gargoyles how to think and act on their own in the hopes they may eventually move to Eyrie with their originals and literally double the amount the clan has. However, Thailog is still out there, and he's not one to let himself remain defeated for long...

The Manhattan clan has still been seen randomly in varied locations of New York City, and while not all New Yorkers are happy about it, there is a small, but growing, organization of people who call themselves PIT, the People for Interspecies Tolerance. These people are secretly funded by Xanatos' company to seek out international clans of gargoyles and work to educate any in their territory who are fearful of them. If the clan is at risk, they are moved to a safer area and informed of the situation the next night.

The Illuminati has been very quiet recently, though everyone who is aware of them is sure they are still watching, and may even have a hand in recent events. However which side they are pushing remains a mystery...

And now... we continue the story.

Q & A / F.A.Q.

Q: So... international clans are allowed? That means I can make my own gargoyle from any country I want?

A: Mostly, yes. Keep in mind that England, Japan, and Guatamala/South America each have their own set look for the local gargoyles established. This includes naming structures. Always name your gargoyle something that fits the culture of the country they came from and make them look like the humanoid statues of the area. As an example: a gargoyle from Egypt should not be named Bob and look like a normal gargoyle. It'd be more likely they'd be sphinxian with an Egyptian name.

Q: I wanna make my own Fae!

A: Not really a question, but it's a situation that's gonna come up. Yes, you can create a Fae, however it must fall into certain guidelines. They must have a limit to their power that is reasonable, they must have a reason and ability to leave the island of Avalon, and they must, like all Fae, be weak to Iron when played.

Q: Do I -have- to play X person as supportive/hateful of Gargoyles?

A: Most reasons for a canonical character's support have been built up throughout the entire series. Xanatos isn't going to suddenly betray the gargoyles when he owes them his wife and child's lives and safety, and it'll be very hard for Demona to suddenly forgive the humans when they've taken everything from her. Some characters waver on the line and may eventually fall to one side or the other, but it would probably take a severe life-impacting event to change their minds. That should happen in roleplay on the thread over time, not suddenly be put into their background.

Q: Do the comics have any bearing on this story?

A: Yes and no. I'm more than happy to allow characters from Slave Labor's serials, especially the Redemption Squad storyline. Unfortunately, I don't read the comics myself so I'll have to rely on the Garg Wiki to research them until I can afford a subscription to all planned serials. Therefore, I ask that you be patient with me on how wary I am to allow comic-only characters. The character list has a few comic-only characters, and if you're unfamiliar with them, I ask that you NOT apply for them unless you're certain you can play them well according to their Wiki info. This won't be an exact story to copy the 'SLG' comic, but I like personalities to remain canon.

Q: So... where are the New Olympians?

A: On New Olympus, and they'll stay there for about 5-10 years before that wall finally goes down. If the RP lasts that long time-line wise, I'll consider allowing the race, but I'd rather not have that headache for starting this whole thing off.

Canon Application

For anybody unfamiliar with Pandangel RPs... this is our basic "Who-Why-What-How" application. Who is it that you want to play? Why do you want to play them specifically? What do you know about the character? How will you intend on playing them? Please PM the following form to ~Alechsa~

Character Name:
Why Them:
Background:
RP Challenge:

User ImageDescription:

Character Name: ('That guy with the glasses who turns into a fae' just isn't gonna cut it here)

Why Them: (Tell us what about this character makes you want to play them with us? Why are you driven to this specific character? Why should we choose you to play them over other applications for the character?)

Background: (Tell us everything you know about the character. I don't want to see a copy of the Wikipedia article, either, and I do check. I want your words telling me everything you know about them. Tell me everything you think is relevant to their character. Hopefully this shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 paragraphs... don't feel pressured to write me a novel about them. If this character doesn't have much background given in the series, use this field to explain how you will play them.

RP Challenge: Here you will respond to 1-3 of the RP challenges given below the application posts.

SPECIAL NOTE

Certain characters being taken will prevent you from being approved to play others. This is to avoid complete control of conflicts/groups bya single member of the RP. I will hold myself and my staff to this as well.

Those who play Demona cannot play Goliath and vice versa. Same goes for Thailog, his player cannot play Goliath or Demona.
You can only play one member of the teenaged boy 'Trio'.
You cannot play Angela and Demona. One or the other only please.
You cannot play more than one Canmore sibling.
Elisa's player cannot play Demona. Same vice versa.
*You cannot play more than one member of the Third Race.*

Any other character combinations under the same player will be accepted under the assumption that you will play it fairly.

Character Creation

This application will be a little more in depth, because we'll want to have an idea what you're throwing at us before we let them play with the rest of the kids. Keep in mind that creativity is key and what we look for most. So be creative, be original, and have fun as you try to come up with all of this information.

The only seriously concrete rules about this are as follows:

  • Don't violate any established history. Meaning if something has been revealed in the RP, you can't undo it with your background. If you're not sure, talk to the crew.

  • Don't heavily include any other characters in your history without the permission of the player of that character. Even other created ones. If the character is canonical, I need to approve it too.

User ImageExplanation::
Name: (If your character has multiple aliases, you must list them all)
Race (Gargoyle, Human, or Fae)
Age: (Remember that gargoyles look half the age they really are (26=13, etc) and most Fae are really hundreds of years old and tend to have humanoid alter egos they hide as)
Alignment: (Do you support gargoyles, hate them, or don't care one way or the other?)
Physical Description/Picture: (Images aren't requested here, though if you have art of your character specifically, you may use it. If your character just happens to look like x model found randomly on Google, an image is not necessary or requested)
Background: (Put as much detail as possible here. Anything that is not here, is not allowed to be referred to in roleplay)
Special Notes: (If your character has powers or special training, please make a note of it here and describe those things. If they are perfectly normal aside form being human/a gargoyle, please leave this blanked out.)
RP Challenge: (An RP challenge response goes here. Look down one post from this one to see what you should respond to)

Here Is The Code For You::

Here Is An Example Of A Completed Form::

Example of an Acceptable App
Name: 'Glimmer'/Nuala/Giselle
Race: Third (Fae)
Age: 372 years old; usually appears to be a 7 year old child
Alignment: Neutral - like all Fae
Physical Description/Picture: Glimmer, like all Fae, can make herself look like whatever or whoever she wants. Her true form is a tiny fairy-like sprite with dragonfly wings. Her favorite form to 'hide' in is a seven year old child with silver-white hair and seafoam green eyes named Giselle.
Background: Nuala is a spoiled brat of a girl who'd rather be called Glimmer because it's 'cuter'. She's impossible to punish due to her 'greed' power, and thusly also difficult to keep on Avalon. She is every bit a Child, and while naive and innocent, she can be selfish and jealous of attention.

Shortly after the Gathering completed, Glimmer began to become bored and wanted to go 'out' again. Of course it was forbidden to leave the island, so naturally she did it anyway. After all, she reasons, if Puck and Fox and Alex are allowed to stay off the island, why does she have to stay on? She heard the stories of the others about the Gargoyles they met and became intrigued, visiting the clan on the other side of Avalon frequently, but never really finding anything of interest. She did like the Amazon gargoyles when they came to visit and tend to a set-aside area of the island as a safe haven for medicinal plants, however she quickly grew bored of even their odd behaviors. The fact that the gargoyles kept an iron bell in their home concerned her and tended to keep her visits short most nights.

Glimmer became fascinated with the idea that gargoyles slept during the day in a stone hibernation and began becoming a bit of a bother at first, poking them and then knocking to see if they'd wake up for her. She was shooed away when she became a bit too insistent and risked breaking the gargoyles. She recalled the stories of her brothers and sisters and decided to go find other gargoyles to 'play' with.

Glimmer currently wanders the Mortal realm of Earth, drawn to things that interest her. This includes gargoyles as well as very strange human beings. It's very likely that once Oberon realizes this young Child is missing, he'll be harassing the Manhattan Clan and Puck to find her before she is able to get into trouble. However, finding a small child who can go wherever she wants as well as turn herself into whomever she likes, and trapping a girl who can give herself whatever she wants... is not an easy task.
Special Notes: Glimmer's a relatively young Child, her power isn't at 100% yet, like the ones who are 600+ years old. This means she has some limits to what she can do consciously, but the potential is still there to be released when she is severely emotional, as with all Fae. She's also a greedy girl and 'gives' herself whatever she wants. The more she wants something, the more likely she is to get it. This can be anything from a cookie she is not allowed to have, to the slow painful death of a person she very much hates. Consequently, it can also be used to heal injury or return a stolen item to its proper owner. Unfortunately, it's what -she- wants that gets done by her magic, and she must be made to want that to happen.
RP Challenge:
This is where responses to the challenges you'll find in the next post would go if this was a character you were making.

Roleplay Challenges

When you're applying for a character, most RPs ask for a sample of your RP ability, but we've found in the past that asking for a simple solo-post isn't always a fair way to judge one's ability during a roleplay and many people don't have a thread they've already participated on Gaia to link to yet. Often a person can post a wonderful solo-entry and then be completely unable to post fair and accurate responses to other players. Likewise, often some of the best players get utterly brainfrozen when trying to think of something to post as a solo. So we came up with this method instead.

The very first time you apply for a character, created or canon, you'll pick any 2-3 of the following samples to post a reply to. After that you'll only have to select one per character, and if we get a feel that you're reliable and consistent you might be able to bypass this step entirely when applying for a character. After all, if the point is to judge your ability to play and you've already been playing with us for like 30 pages, it's a pretty moot step, right?

It doesn't matter which type you respond to your first time, if you find you typically RP better in romantic situations, feel free to respond to both of those and one action or social. If you feel you're abilities are well rounded and you want to show us every facet of your ability, take a crack at one of each. If you want to just show us that you're an Olympian God of RP, feel free to give us a response to all of them. Whatever combination you feel most comfortable with. Responses should be at least 1-2 paragraphs long, and you're really overdoing it if it hits more than 5, probably. We like literate players, but a book page per post is unnecessary in most situations.

Below you will find 2 Social type posts, 2 Romance type posts, and 2 Action type posts. Keep in mind when writing your responses to these challenges for your application form, that this source relies heavily on dramatic scenes, so you should try to reflect that. One of each type will be from a human character, the other from a gargoyle. Keep that in mind when responding as well.

Social #1
The little girl sat precariously on the edge of the apartment building's rooftop, legs dangling over the lip. The wind pulled at her hair as she leaned out for a better view of the streets below. The building codes said there should have been a fence around the border due to how many stories high the building was and the fact that the residents had access to the roof to make gardens and store things in a semi-large shed. However this wasn't the richest district of New York and many building codes were 'overlooked' by landowners. The child didn't seem to have much fear of falling, she'd been up there so many times before and nothing had ever happened. Her head tilted as if her tiny ears had picked up on the crunch of gravel behind her and she turned her waist just enough to look over her shoulder. Her innocent eyes glistened and she smiled sweetly.

"Hi. Isn't the view here awesome? What's your name?"

The person this child sees behind herself could be a gargoyle, another human, or even a Fae. They could be about to attack her, talk nicely to her, or be surprised that she noticed them. This sort of socialization is a great way to show off how your character views other people and how they handle innocence.
