I am building a telecaster...
I would like to know which electronics are best to use, wood, etc.

Heres what I am going to do:
I am NOT going to do a paint finish. Its going to be natural wood look, glossed maybe...

I am going to engrave my baby cousins name on it, who passed away wednsday, I do not know where I should put the name though...

I would like angel inlays for the neck, where can I get these for cheap?

Thanks,
Ant

I would definitely suggest checking out warmoth for the inlay [I hear they custom-make] and perhaps for ideas on which wood to use. The wood you choose will affect the sound, so maybe do a little research into the sound qualities of each one before choosing.
I would engrave the name on the headstock, but it could go anywhere, I'd imagine. I'm very sorry about your loss.
Electronics, I think it's more of a personal preference about the tone you get. I'm not sure about any brands or anything, but maybe first narrow down between the types of pickups and bridges and stuff, and go from there.

Good luck!

www.tdpri.com

For my Esquire, I'm going to use Eastern White Pine, but I also like Swamp Ash, so consider those for wood. For electronics, there's a Telecaster wiring kit on www.stewmac.com for not that much. And for pick-ups, try Fralin's, Lollar's, Rio Grande's, Suhr's and the like. It depends on what kind of tone you're looking for.

I would honestly do the angel inlays on the normal frets, and on the 12 fret have the name as an inlay, but thats just my opinion. Other than that, the headstock is probably the best choice.

Warmoth does not do inlays aside from standard dots and blocks. They make the wood bits, and are one of the more high end instrument parts companies.

Custom inlays can run hundreds of dollars, but you can get your cousin's name engraved on the metal neck plate for <$20 usually if you provide the plate, and any jeweler can do it.

There is no "best" pickups and electronics unfortunately.

I've built some of these. If you post a budget you have in mind, I can point you the right direction.

EDIT: Just realized this was necroposted from two years ago. Ahh well, my offer stands.
