...

Go to the bookstore and get a book on runes. C'mon. Its not that hard.

Try a google search for "Rune meanings"

Specify Germanic/Futhark, Viking, w/e. I can't believe someone started a thread to ask without even beginning to bother to try looking first.

Researching anything in the occult/new age/neopagan area can be difficult, by virtue of all the misinformation out there. I've come across a couple different rune guides, and they both use different names for the runes and different interpretations. Which one is the more accurate and authentic? I have no idea. I was recommended these books by someone else on Gaia, but I can't say I have looked into them myself.

I do not like to just go to any book store to find a book about any subject unless i have a good reference... I don't trust every smuck out there that has a typewriter... I just put it off till I saw this post, so, i thought i would mention what i was looking for... Its not that im lazy, i just dont know anyone around here I trust enough with this kind of info...

I know that i dont know everyone here personaly, but I trust people more after I just talk to them anyways...

Any-who, thanks for the info... It will help...

I don't have much else to say but I love runes and they've helped me a lot. I think they are a good thing to look into. But look at a couple book, web sites ect. because some books may have different meanings than others do.

I didn't say "buy the first thing you see." Take the time to browse through the books and get a good idea of what is useful and what isn't. Like.. books with a bibliography/works cited/etc. in the back is more likely to be more reliable than others.

The book I have is "The Book of Runes" by Ralph H Blum. It has a sizable bibliography, pronounciation guide, and more. Its not that big, but it has been what I have used. I feel that I don't really need another book than this, although I do frequently look on the web for other interpretations to see how they compare. Surprisingly enough, many go together quite well.

Ann Moura has a runic table in her book "Grimoire for the Green Witch" (pg 218 in my book). She doesn't specify which origin these runes are, and the names don't coincide perfectly with the names in Blum's book. However, most pronounciations are very similar, and they mostly represent the same meanings. She even offers some rune combinations for simple enchantments.

So, does this help any better now that I have spoon fed you? =P

All I'm gonna add to what's been said is a note that should be in any good runic book anyway: If you want to carve or draw runes on to something, even for decoration, make DAMN sure you know what they mean, and don't mix runes from different alphabets. The charged results could be disasterous, and you could charge them even without trying, just by writing them.

Easiest way I've read about to charge a rune is to write it, then say it's name outloud. To lock it, put the caster's blood on/in it (ONLY for carved runes). That's just one school of doing it though, and using blood is not a great idea if you live with family. They may ask questions.
