Through the shadows he prowled, right on the edge, right at the border. Whether he liked to aknowledge it or not, Possum was growing up. He was no longer the cute little fluffball with a scrawny tail. Now he was a considerably-larger, knobby kneeded thing with a scrawny tail.

Either way, his mentality level hadn't risen too high. Maybe it was just the fact that he was a boy...or the fact that he wasn't ready to grow up.

Across his back was the pelt of a badger, its black and white blending in stark contrast with the deep hue of chocolate that was his color. Emerald eyes glittered, checking this way and that way, ears always swiveled forwards for fear of the Cloaked ones.

The ones enslaved by shadow...

Pupsnatchers...

The thought made the docile pup's lip raise. He would grow up to be the best pupwatcher ever. He'd never let a Brother take one of his children, as Adolfo and Fie hadn't let any of their pups loose.

He felt bold walking through the shadows. He felt like he owned them.

Still, something about the day wasn't right...

And so he called out tentatively, a small bark against the summer wind. "H-Hello?" Not a stammer because he was scared. A stammer he'd had since birth.

The shadows were something strange to him, something mysterious and almost alluring. Natural instinct kept him away, especially when his family was bred in the light; he didn't understand the dangers that could be held within, but the small youth could sense them distantly. Paranoia forced blue eyes large, oval and glimmering greedily, snatching any source of light that would be so blessed as to greet them. Something had to be out there....but what?

He had heard few whispers of the cloaked thieves. Instead, his pack warned him about the upbringing of a dark territory that was distinctly his families enemy. Agua Azul was what he had come to call it. But Davii wasn't anywhere near the border...was he?

The violet pup had grown as well, but his mentality was just as mingled, coiled together in such a confusing mass of misunderstanding that he abandoned wondering what he was and started to focus on what pups were supposed to be focused on: play. But even this was strange for him who did not understand his own strength and backed away timidly during a playful scuffle. His brother was the embodiment of what a male up should be, while his sister was the image of a female. But what was he? He was told a hundred times he was male, but that couldn't be possible.

A sigh was heaved. Large paws carried him further, stopping often to quiver in fear at a false suspicion that a noise had sounded. It took a moment for him to realize when he actually heard something real. Those large eyes whipped in every direction, darting about while the thump of his heart echoed in his ears. A faint hello. Blue tipped tail tucked between his legs while his ears lay flat against his head, hesitant to answer the phantom whom he had yet to see. "I-is someone t-there?" he muttered, stuttering in his anxiety.

Play fighting was one thing, but Possum yearned to know how to truly spar. Not fight; he didn't like pain, nor did he know another wolf who did. But to spar, to have that self-defense... Every pup should learn self-defense, he decided with a nod.

The Light was something Possum wished for. Although he felt cool-headed, calm and content within the envelopment of Shadow, he wished to feel the heat of the sun upon his dark pelt, to feel the warmth of the Gods' love for him.

It just wasn't to be.

Or...was it?

Ears pricked forwards as another voice pierced the shadows. Olivine eyes focused on a pink pup, a lacy look to it, with his...or her? tail tucked.

A grin spread over the pup's maw and he stepped out into the light for the first time in many days. It both warmed him and blinded him. His muzzle twitched, showing teeth involuntarily. An ear flicked as well, as if batting off a fly.

"Hello!" he laughed. "You d-don't know how happy I am to see that you're not a wolf of t-the Brotherhood!"

As the form solidified into the light, appearing as a youth of close to his age, the pup felt himself relax just a bit. Of course, just knowing that this stranger was a pup didn't cease his fears nor the false premonitions as well. His tail remained between his legs, while his blues eyes blinked in observation.

He almost shrunk back when the pup had the reaction to the sunlight, showing off his fangs which prompted the pink creature to shiver lightly, forcing himself to stay put while his father's words echoed in his ear. It seemed his entire pack was fed up with his weak ways. Either he was being scolded by Twix, or corrected by his father.

The words that came from the pup's mouth sounded friendly enough. He was a curious sight. Alone and with pelt draped over his back. And a badger no doubt, a creature he assumed was crafty and territorial. Was he the one who had made the coat? It seemed there would be time for questions later.

"H-hi," he answered, giving a small grin. He didn't know who the Brotherhood was so the statement flew right over his head, but at least he was glad that the pup was glad to see him, even if he didn't understand the circumstances.

Possum winced inwardly at the look the pup gave him, the slice of fear and uncertainty that ran through his icy blue gaze when fang was shown. He would probably be feared by alot just by looks, not only because the pelt on his back was that of a badger; a temperamental little creature in itself! but also because of the tics.

Possum had tics, and not the pest kind. He couldn't control what his body did; if it twitched, it twitched. And whatever he was plagued with also caused him to stammer. But the little pup was hardly a fearful one.

He could tell the pink and navy one was. The scent the pup carried was male, but he acted so...worried! that Possum was going to jump out and eat him! He guessed that perhaps the other boy had a bad homelife. That perhaps it was just something he was born with.

"I'm Possum!" chirped the pup proudly, sitting down right opposite the other. "Why're you so timid?"

Davii observed the strange pup from his short distance, taking in all he could with swift observation. He was a unique individual, not just because of the pelt, but also in the way he handled himself and the simple movements he made. The pink pup had yet to notice the tics. Though he wouldn't ever act disrespectfully to anyone simply because they had pests, it was true that whenever a tic latched onto him he immediately relieved himself of it, and when it was impossible to reach he begged a family member to relieve himself of it, fearing the little creatures perhaps more than other wolves at times.

He noticed the previous stammer, but didn't understand its origin. He sounded brave, a courageous fellow who didn't fall pray to timid stutters as the pink pup did. Davii had a magnificent family, a wonderful setting, so even his own behavior seemed to have spontaneously sprouted without his understanding why. Which lead to a pause when answering the pup's question.

"Erm...I...I don't really know," he started, glancing to his side swiftly before returning his gaze straight into the interesting olive color of the other male's. "I guess 'cause I'm weak." With that statement he returned to the previous statement, wishing to pull the comments away from his affairs and focus on introduction once more. "I'm Davii...n-nice meeting you, Possum." The smile he offered the pup was genuine.

The wolf pup was interested in the little pink male. He was strange, but then again, so was Possum and his family.

Davii... Nice name for a cute little thing. He was very...feminine. But just because he was feminine didn't mean he had to act weak!

Possum's head was held high as he nudged the other pup, almost annoyingly.

"Why d'ya think y-y-you're weak? I don't think you are. I think you need to get out there and s-show people what you're made of!"

And with a bark, he pranced around the more timid puppy, trying to entice him out of the tiny pink shell he was encased in. "Show us all the real Davii!"

The pup almost jumped when he was prodded, but watched curiously as the interesting male started up his prance. He'd never before met anyone quite like this little individual who seemed not to judge him, but instead offered assistance. The only problem with that was that Davii had no inclination as to how to prove himself or show any drop of self confidence. If only he understood how easy it was. He envied outgoing individuals, like Possum, but admired them also, wanting to be like them and able to crawl out from his shell to view the world with clear, eager eyes.

"Erm...ah well...how exactly do I do that?" he asked, ashamed to have to ask. For others it seemed to come natural, so why not him? Was there some defect that pulled him back? This confusion jumbled within his mind, consuming him along with every other question about himself he had...which was a myriad that lasted forever. Davii only hoped with age he'll grow into more confidence.

Possum's behavior was enough to prompt him onto his paws. But from that point he was unsure.

Possum pranced on his toes, tail wagging wildly as the other pup hopped to his feet, although it seemed to be just out of surprise. He gave a grin and his paw twitched in the dirt.

His head tilted to one side. How would Davii show his real self if he didn't know what his real self was even like? "Hmm... Well. I don't k-k-know exactly. What have you ever wanted to do, but were too scared to do? We'll do that! It'll be like a first step." Of course, Possum had no idea if it would work or not. It just was the first thing that came to mind.

The pink pup continued to watch the pelted fellow, intrigued by him further as he continued to explain. Watching his wagging tail prompted his own to give a shake a few times, but it was more nervous in behavior. Instead, he turns his head as if not understanding. Was there anything he wanted to do but didn't due to fear? Well, there were a few things he had yet to manage, but his biggest catch wasn't because he was afraid, but rather confused over.

"I...well," he muttered. The blue orbs fell to the ground. There were many things, but so many things he couldn't manage. Panicking, he felt as though not giving an answer would disappoint his new friend, but as he searched for something to say, he found he hardly had anything to give Possum. "Well, I-I-I would like to swim. I haven't managed that yet," he suddenly spouted. This wasn't exactly true. Although he had never managed into rough water, which was more due to his mother's warning than his own fear.

Possum was unaware that the older pup might be worried about his reaction, unaware that Davii felt put on the spot or else he never would've asked. He hated putting family and friends in discomfortable positions because he himself hated those positions.

He watched him carefully, his body at ease other than the light twitches that moved his skin or jerked a paw. They were all involuntary. They bothered him at first, when he tried to be like his siblings. Not anymore. He was unique and he knew it.

"Swimming!" His own eyes lit up."We c-c-can swim. I could teach you, if you w-wanted. In faaaaaact... I know of a nice little river."

PostPosted: Sat Jan 17, 2009 9:15 pm

"Y-you do?" he murmured, giving a slight grin. As long as Possum was happy with how things were going, so would he. Besides his confusion, his biggest flaw was the fact he was a people pleaser. But this seemed like a harmless adventure with a new friend...nothing would go wrong. His tail wagged. "I'd like that," he answered, giving a firm nod, liking the fact they were using this as a way to pull away from his previous anxiety. Plus they'd have fun in the process.

The young wolf appreciated the assistance Possum was trying to give him. Although he didn't know how to tell him what was really on his mind, what he believed really made him weak, he thought it was a generous act that the other pup was offering him a chance at improvement. Davii knew it wouldn't solve anything now, but maybe it would give him something he could hold onto longer.

"I do," he agreed with a nod, standing and shaking his fur, the badger pelt on his back sliding to the side. He carefully placed it up on his shoulders, then grinned over at the pink and navy pup. "Good! F-F-Follow me!"

And he took off across the forest floor, darting into the shadows, then gazing outwards. Maybe Davii wouldn't feel comfortable traveling in them... He pulled out once more, gazing around. But...there really wasn't another way around. The Cloaked ones were always lingering, but Possum wasn't afraid. He took a step forwards, half in and half out of the shrouding darkness, watching Davii carefully for any sign of fear. He wouldn't push his new friend into anything, he decided.

PostPosted: Sun Jan 18, 2009 5:51 pm

Half surprised by the sudden excursion of speed the other pup sprang into, Davii stared in his direction before his feet promptly followed. The pink pup was perhaps the fastest of his litter, and had the makings of the fastest in the pack, so he naturally had no trouble at all keeping up with the darker pup. Even as they darted into the darkness, his eyes locked on the pelt, watching it move fluidly along with the boy's gallop, and when his eyes failed him, his sense of smell constantly assured him he was right beside Possum.

Davii was uncomfortable in the darkness. Although, he didn't speak this aloud to the other pup. He was weak enough as it was, he didn't want to come off as a coward in front of the other male; a bit of shade wouldn't harm him. He was curious though. His family was a bright pack, one filled with warmth and array of color. But it seemed to him that Possum's lifestyle was slightly different. How so? What made them different? The little creature was beyond curious over his new found friend.
