Heya.

So later on today at 10am (its now 2.30am) I have to take my hare to the vets to be put to sleep. You see a good age for a hare is 4 and Baileys is now nearly 7 and his back legs are giving out, if I left him then he would live for a couple of weeks but be in pain so its best to let the vet put him down. It really sucks, because I bread him myself so am overly attached to him.

I haven't put this in the advice forum because I don't think there is much anyone can say, I know its the right thing to do... it just hurts.

Anyone else had to deal with the heartbreaking side of having pets?

M'hm. My first pitt bull (sunny). I got her when I was 7 >< And she was a newborn. But 2 years ago my step-dad came along. he HATED my dog -.-' But anyway he is a acoholic, and it was one of those "beat the hell out of everyone nights". I finally convinced my mom to run away, so we left for my aunts. Its about 6 hours away, and it as 10pm. So we couldnt get my dog out of the house w/o my step-dad hearing us leaving, I tried to get her out but my mom pulled me away. After a week of being at my aunts, my mom called Jason (step-dad), and he told us we had to get my dog. So we went to get her, me and my uncle Eli. But when we got there he has beaten the crap outta her. My mom came back the next day and we went back to living with him. But one night I came home and he was having what my mom calls "a relax night" OR what everyone calls "beat the hell outta everyone night" ><, but anyway I noticed sunny wasnt around. I asked my mom where she was, and she said Jason gave her away to one of his drinking buddys gonk and then i went to see her and she was dead scream they killed her, in a dog fight scream

Whoa thas horrible. Pit bulls are banned in England - there was a case last year where one tore this little girl apart (there a couple but there isn't meant to be any). Sounds as if your step-dad is a complete b*****d. I can't understand why someone would stay with someone like that. My mums the same though.

I remember when I was ten, I woke up one morning and ran over to my hamsters tank. Susie was sleeping and she was usually always awake. So I picked her up, and she was very cold. She was maybe 4 or 5? I ran into my mom's room screaming, and thy told me to put her in a box and some wash clothes. So I found a shoe box, put some hamster bedding in it, folded a couple washclothes up as if it was like she was sleeping in a little bed, and cried as her body kept twitching. I hoped she was still alive since her body was moving, but my step dad is a fireman/paramedic and he said that sometimes happens after something or someone dies.

Another time is where my greyhound Freddy formed a cancerous tumor in his brain. He was also a few years old. I remember right before Ma and Kenny (he was my step dad. him and my ma arent together anymore) left to get him put down, we all took family photos with him. Me, Ma, Sam, Kenny, and my best friend Amanda took pictures with him, and we were all crying. It's hard having greyhounds, because they all usually do die of cancer...
