Summary: Shelly Wake has long been considered a scientific genius. But after losing favor in a project of mutant arms, she disappears with her "family" of mutant creatures. When her location is pursued by forces of good and evil, she must make careful decisions, or suffer the loss of her closest friends. The turtles, eager to prevent the Foot Clan from gaining the coveted "God Drive", a flash drive containing the perfected method of mutagens, aid Shelly in her defense. Will Shelly look at them with humanity? Or will they be subjected to her obsession?

Chapter One: The Missing Link
Computer: $500 Flash Drive: $30 Biological Equipment: $100,000+ The key to creating new life: priceless
If you lived in the shoes of many of the scientists at the Bureau for Biological Enhancement, this was a very true equation. In exchange for excellent wages, living quarters, VIP access to limited areas, and authority over government projects, they became a dog of the government. When they asked for a hybrid fruit, they rolled over broken glass to make it. When they asked for a medical miracle, they responded by weeks of restless nights to make it. Whatever they asked for, the scientists provided at all costs.
Most easily provided, was Dr. Shelly Wake's requests.
After managing to perform at the highest degree all through her school years and a valdevictorian in her college years at Harvard, Shelly was coveted deeply by the scientific realm. The government (providing better perks than other companies) set her up in style at the BBE as head supervisor. Naturally, she smiled widely at her great fortune and was overall cheery and polite to her co-workers. But above everything else, she loved her mutants.
For her reason of rising above and beyond to many levels of greatness was her arranging and perfecting the one thing that many biologists would die for.
The God Drive.
A complete and well organized flash drive containing the technique and necessities to creating mutants, clones, and even new life...all at little cost to the benefactor. Shelly as vary cautious about keeping it. It always remained hidden, but in plain sight. Secret, but obvious. Her passion for mutants, however, bordered on complete motherhood. A small joke was that if she wasn't careful she mutate herself too. Which brought on the predicament that only ever plagued her deepest nightmares...
"There now Kappy. Aren't you such a good boy?"
Shelly was eagerly cooing at the little mutant sitting on her hip. He trilled happily as he reached his spindly green arms even tighter around her shoulders. Kappa, or Kappy, was the miraculous first mutant made by Shelly. Inspired by Japanese myths of the water demon Kappa, she created a physical counterpart. He was roughly the size of a three year old child, with a turtle shell, green skin, and a beak. The only difference was that around his patchy black hair was not a bowl, but a plate, to be used as a defense mechanism. Already at the age of two, he was omnivorous and followed Shelly around like a baby chick.
"Dr. Wake, the general's here to speak with you." an assistant inquired.
"Alright. Down you go Kappy." His arms tighted. the assistant tried feebly to help by beckoning him over.
"Come on now. Be good!" Nothing. Shelly sighed in resignment. "Okay, one more hug and that's it." She dipped down to his tiny plastron and squeezed tightly. Obviously delighted he nibbled affectionately on her ear before taking his webbed hand in the assistant's soft one and hobbling off to his nursery. Shelly smiled and made her way to the general's office. She normally went there when he came to complain about her decisions of holding back her mutants for warfare. She would play around with him for a while before easily convincing him of a compromise. He would only realize his raw end of the deal a month later in which the cycle would begin again. But as usual, Shelly won in the end. She was appalled at using mutants for war and determinedly refused to encourage any promotion of teaching them viciousness. What surprise she would meet in the office that day....
"E-excuse me?"
Normally Shelly was very well composed. She kept an upright back, eyes straight ahead, and a graceful walk. But now was not one of those moments. Her eyes were slack and wide, she slumped deep into her chair and her knees quaked and trembled. This couldn't be happening! But the general kept a straight, stern, unforgiving face.
"You heard me Dr. Wake. The board has foud you completely unsuitable for our warfare project."
"My-my mutants...my work..."
"Not your mutants. Ours. Remember that these experiments were all done under the awareness that they would fall under our posession. You were directed to create and train them for warfare and civil defense. You failed to introduce military tactics and lifestyle into their existence. We're going to do this our way now." She snapped up in fury. Her hair stood on end as she looked lividly at the general, all but screeching.
"Your way?! What the hell do you mean your way?!" she shrieked.
"We're hiring Dr. Stockman."
"What?!! That char-"
"Yes that charlatan. Believe it or not he's more than capable of accomplishing our requests."
"He doesn't have the secret! I do!" She was furious. How could they hire that heartless madman?
"He'll understand it as soon as he examines the previous experiments."
"The hell! He'll kill them and chop them to bits!"
The general was silent. Shelly was breathing, heaving deeply, as she looked on him with horrified anger.
"Then that'll take care of two problems."
Shelly was flabbergasted. Judging from his attitude, he was either attempting paitence and failing, or blantantly asking her to leave. She takes a deep breath. If she didn't leave now, she'd slug him.
That night, without so much as raising alarm from the confused creatures she led, she quietly packed them away in a truck and disappeared....
Tell me if you want more! Next one includes the turtles!

(Thank you for the response Kikker-chan! This next chapter is dedicated to you!)
Chapter Two: The Fallen Idol
"Famous Scientist Disappears"
This became the crazed headline labeling every newspaper in New York the next morning. It was interpreted in many forms with various wild guesses of where the infamous Dr. Wake may have disappeared...but all were produced the same message. She was gone.
This became an immediate shock to the genius mutant living below.
Donatello, wearing his electronic headpiece and sitting at his computer looked flabbergasted at the newpaper Leonardo had just finished. An avid collector of Dr. Wake's ingenious lectures and articles on varying topics, Donatello pried many hidden secrets even further. A perfect role model. He especially was fond of her recent discoveries in enviromentally safe mutagens. Mutagens like this were easily controlled, produced satisfying results, and used a safe combonation of organic and man made materials.
Needless to say, he dreaded a future with her missing.
Shaken by the vague details of her disappearence, he left to consult Master Splinter. He'd advise Donatello well when Donatello could not advise himself. Splinter patiently observed Leonardo as he practiced his katas, while Raphael lifted weights and Michelangelo stretched. Donatello had missed exercise and training for further probing on a special vaccine, inspired by a recent lecture on vaccines for poisons by a certain scientist.
"Master Splinter?"
"Yes my son?"
"I have a...situation I need help on..." Splinter looked with a concerned curiousity.
"What kind of situation?"
"This," Don laid out the news, the featured article blaring its letters boldly on front. Splinter observed the newspaper in his sharp, furry hands.
"What about this disappearance concerns you my son?" Splinter asked, his eyes not straying from the paper. Shelly Wake's picture from her latest lecture was featured as she smiled brightly at the camera, donning her best lab suit.
"Dr. Wake was studying mutagen warfare when she disappeared. I'm..only guessing...but I think maybe she was kidnapped."
"Kidnapped? Is that what the article proclaims?"
"No...but all of them are only being hypothetical. If Dr. Wake had discovered something vital in mutant science...someone else may have wanted it too.."
Splinter remained silent. Don squirmed uncomfortably. He'd never really requested a mission before, that was usually done by Leo. But if enemies, including the Foot, were to obtain such harmful knowledge then the consequences would be harshly severe on the turtles part. He wanted to protect that dangerous information from foes, if not to protect his family and city, then to discover himself. Who knows...it may become vital to the group's lifestyle.
"Do you wish to discover the truth my son?" Splinter finally asked. Don was a passionate learner, and he remembered him excitedly rambling on about some fascinating thing or another this Dr. had discovered. He hated to see him so uncomfortable and upset at losing his favorite scientist.
"Very much Master Splinter. I want to know why she's gone. And maybe..." he trailed off. Splinter needn't ask. He knew the answer already.
"Very well. I will allow you to look into this. But on the condition Leonardo accompanies you. Raphael and Michelangelo shall remain close in order to keep up the patrol schedule."
"Thank you Master. You won't be disappointed!"
Leo naturally agreed to Splinter's request. Mikey whined slightly about extra patrol duty, Raph merely complained there was too much fuss over some creepy scientist going missing. Don and Leo left slightly later than planned as Don was swift to chide Raph excessively on his disrespect for his idol.
Farther away...twigs cracked under a pair of squeaky lab shoes. Shelly looked around the forest, shadowed creatures blinking curiously at their surroundings. She turned towards an enormous lodge, old and broken with age and abandonment. She shifted the weight of her smaller mutant on her hip and pressed on....

Chapter Three: Lost and Found
Precision. Agility. Strength. Speed. Honor.
Leonardo believed in these five skills as essential tools of being a ninja. He had worked hard and prevailed in honing these skills. They were his life. But of course, he had ultimately gained the quality his sensei firmly and routinely reminded them of the most essential. Invisibility.
Like ghosts, he and Donatello dashed throught the city, appearing real to the occansional sharp eye, and then nothing but mist in the next. The Bureau for Biological Enhancement nonetheless had Donatello shaking. It was only reconaissance...but Leonardo knew his brother well enough to understand his excitement. His driving purpose for being a ninja.
Knowledge.
That irresistable goddess that grew and warped everyday to fascinate and enlighten those who pursued her slick grasp. Leonardo already realized the four brothers purposes for their nindo, their ninja way. Raphael; strength. Michelangelo;adventure. Donatello; knowledge. And himself; honor.
Upon approaching the building, they were surprised to find it fairly meager in stature. It was a humble, block designed building, white with a normal concrete driveway and parking space. However, the high iron fence, barbed wire, and security strict entrance demoted the idea that it was anything usual. With quick silent steps, Donatello proceeded in breaking into the security doors, clicks and zaps emitting from the security panel as he worked. Within seconds, the gates pried open. Leonardo had to praise Donatello's efforts, despite his own perfectionism even he couldn't do that.
They entered through the silhouetted glass pane windows on the slanted roof, looking into the circular lobby. All was dark, all was quiet, all had gone home to bask in their superior wealth and knowledge. But now they had to be extrasensory in their actions. As the saying goes, walls have ears, and with the superior technology of the facility, it would unsurprising if they had more than that too. Creeping through the hallways, they were disappointed to find only offices.
"This is too weird. Aren't science centers supposed to have more...well...science stuff?"
"There's more to that than meets the eye. It's just hidden somewhere...if I could just.." Don sighed frustrated, before moving onto the next office.
He got lucky this time.
Almost immediately he spied the name of his idol upon the desk of the resident general. He motioned quietly to Leo. This was it.
He opened the folder to find things that plagued all the questions in his head. Birth certificate, dipolmas, Ph.Ds, works and writings. He flipped eagerly through it while Leo kept a close eye on the door. Don finally met the end where he recieved a shock. Upon the file for her work in the facility, she had run all the mutagenic projects on course in the building. However, dated for the day she disappeared, he saw the bright red stamp at the bottom. Dismissed.
He slapped the folder shut. Now he was certain something was wrong. Why in the world would the government be arranging a mutant warfare project? Why would they dismiss Dr. Wake so obtusely after years of perfection? And if she wasn't kidnapped, where was she?
He nodded to Leonardo as a sign to leave. Whatever was going on, Don had a feeling it wasn't pleasant...

This subform needs more love emo Oh its not a romantic fanfic....yet. I'm aiming for it to be like the usual TMNT type you see on TV where fewer romantic relations are formed and more friendships. Right now it's just in the dramatic action genre. ;_; Thanks for posting! A little more love from more members and I'll post another chapter!

(Decided to post cause I missed this!)
"It doesn't add up," Don looked over the files again. He'd copied them at the building, and was going over them again and again, hoping to catch some missing element. But it was clear as water, for some unknown reason, just as production with the mutation experiments had reached maximum efficiency, she'd vanished. "Why would they dismiss Dr. Wake? She's a genius, she's the reason this mutantion project even got two feet off the ground in the first place."
"Maybe...they needed a reason to get rid of her," Leonardo guessed, "Maybe there was a deeper reason or logic needed for the mutants creation, and Wake might have disagreed with them. If she got out to the media with a story about the mutants, they'd have to close."
"Maybe its a murder!" Michelangelo, imagination aflame with the mystery, "Like Frankenstien where the monster kills the creator and they're trying to hush it up."
"Or maybe she just quit," Rapheal threw in, uncreatively, "Might've been pissed off at the guys and dropped out."
"If only we could get word from one of the workers there," Donatello stressed, rubbing his temples.
"Yeah," Raphael said with sarcasm, "Because they'll just perk up and tell us everything once they see us."
"Raphael," Splinter warned sharply. He thened turned back to Donatello, "Perhaps it would be wise to seek the help of our friend April now."
"But what can April do?" Leonardo countered, "She used to work for Stockman, but she can't come at them from that angle. And they'll just shut the door in her face if she comes as a reporter."
"I'm not sure either," Donatello said. Nevertheless, he went to the phone. "But we've got to try."
