Ziarre was a bit more than a little nervous. She'd told as few in the tribe as she could manage about her journey, and even fewer of the reason why. But with the cubs growing within her, it would soon become impossible to hide much from anyone. Damn him to hell and back. Why did he have to make things so complicated? If he weren't around this would be a simple discharging of duty, nothing more and nothing less. But now she had to think of him too, and fret over his reaction that she was, well, pregnant. Would he be relieved that she hadn't requested his aid? Angry? Which did she want him to be?

Stalking back to their rocky camp, Ziarre flopped down next to Pyralis. "Wake up," she commanded in an arch tone, doing her best not to look the way she felt just now. And just to make sure he did wake up, she thwapped him upside the head with a sheathed paw.

He would have been fully inclined to deny her 'wake up' demand had it not been for the swat upside the back of his head. One that earned a very stern frown on his face and the opening of one eye to glance up at her.

Hiiiiissss.

Though really it sounded like an angry rumbling through his chest. The feline 'Do not want' precursor-warning before a hiss, for lack of better description. But he didn't push his luck any further than refusing to rise straight to attention.

Instead he turned his head to look up at her with a rather straight expression. Oooooh, so serious. Yeah.

He was expecting such a taunt, actually.

"Rrrrr..... What do you want now?" he asked with a tone of sarcasm, curling his upper lip in a psuedo-hiss.

Expression of affection. Really.

The hissing and snarling would have had a much more noticeable effect on Ziarre except for one thing. She was more than used to his 'unique' brand of expressing himself. Snarls and hisses were as close to a "good morning" as she ever expected to get from him, and so she simply smirked. "Cheery as ever this morning, I see," she answered in a slightly mocking tone. "Not even a 'welcome back' for your gumu? I shudder to think what you might bring as a maternity-leave gift."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:08 pm

Yeah. Good morning hiss-growls.

Pyralis brand. It would be kind of like having a better half who made one coffee in the morning. Only this was the one who would be needing coffee.

"Tch. I'll show you -" Yaaaaaawwwwwwwwn.

...

Yeah. That was a moment killer. He'd pretend that didn't happen. In fact, he'd skip over finishing that 'tough guy' moment since it had already been ruined in favor of continuing on with another tangent.

"Nnnn, like you missed me any more than I did yo-... Maternity leave? What?

Are you going off on another quest?"

Maternity was a word not in his malecabulary.

Gods damn it, those things were contagious. Ziarre stifled a yawn herself, giving him a glare for it. "Like you could show me anything? I think I've seen all you're inclined to show anyone by now--unless you actually did miss me." She huffed, shaking her head. Of course. She should have figured a male wouldn't know what in the gods' realm maternity was. "Tch, so worried about whether I stay or go, hmm? I'll give you a hint--the mzazi are going to be rather interested in me in a few weeks." There, a clue. Actually, pop quiz, Pyralis. Time to test tribal terminology!
PostPosted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:29 pm

Oooooh, if she'd been trying to get a hiss of denial in response to that she'd succeeded, Pyralis rolling onto his stomach to hiss at her over a shoulder.

HSSSSS.

"Not that m-..." rrrrrrrr. He'd already incriminated himself even with catching his sentance early. Damn!

... He'd just hope (HA!) that she didn't hear that. She was already making fun of him with trivia. Ha! Trivia.

He'd show h-.

Ah HA!

The arrow had struck home, and apparently hit a soft spot to boot. Ziarre filed the quote away in memory, just one more weapon in the arsenal to use in binding him to her. If he was going to invade her mind, she was going to make sure she was doing the same...and if she could gain some amusement while doing so, all the better. It made for good training, after all.

But for now, smugness was quickly being washed away by...anticipation? Dread? Gods damn him, the suspense was killing her! "Spit it out already," she rumbled, giving him a glare. "And quit looking like you just ate rotten meat before your face gets stuck like that."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 8:10 pm

Yeah... he was actually doing his best to not let her invade his mind. Though he wasn't about to admit that he failed at the task nor that the task even existed at all.

She was simply a harassing notion in the back of his head, that was all.

"...... Well I guess it makes us even."

...

Even how? Oh.. well, he didn't seem like he was about to fess up to what this 'even' they were was about. In fact, he completely dismissed it following that and laid his head back down on his paws with a straight face.

Ooooh. Tough guy.

"Tch, you're not my mother."

..

That was totally a semi-jealous statement.

For a moment, all Ziarre could do was blink. This was...unexpected.

...

...

"...What?" Seriously, that was it? It couldn't be...he was plotting something, she was sure of it. There was no way he would willingly let her off this easy. She'd bet one of her unborn cubs that there was more to this than he was telling, one way or the other. "Even..." Before she finished the question, an idea popped into her head and her ears instantly flattened at it. "There's not any...female I should know about, is there?"

If there was, said female was going to become one very unhappy dhaifu.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 9:07 pm

Pyralis gave her a half-leer over his shoulder again. Did she really need anything more than him not outright being repulsed by the fact the cubs she was carrying weren't his? Hell, for all she knew he was going to wait until he saw the kids then go find the 'potential' father and beat him to a pulp.

...

Actually he had no desire to do that.

"There is more to my dislike of white than you might think." he replied, the 'bad meat' face returning, "and more to that incident than I know."

Nnnnggghhh. He didn't even want to think about that.

And it was obvious he didn't want to speak of it any further than a final:

"It was a long time ago and I held no love for her."

.... Why did he care if she assumed he 'loved' anybody?

Whether she liked it or not, Ziarre was...reassured by Pyralis' terse explanation. She didn't ask if he wondered about the cubs, if there were cubs. Frankly, she didn't blame him if he'd turned tail and run--he didn't exactly strike her as the 'fatherly' type. Neither of them were exactly parent material, which was part of why their little niche in the Aali'makabila suited them so well.

This didn't mean she was going to let him off the hook. If she did, he'd probably die of a heart attack. Then where would she be? "No love..?" she mused, twitching her tail as she examined the claws on one paw. "A strange word to bring into a conversation when I didn't say a word about it." A sly glance at him and a smirk...yes, that would be sure to get a rise out of him.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 9:40 pm

Frankly it had nothing to do with him being a 'father' at all: It was more of that the entire incident had been a cause of him being angry and needing reassurance in his own powers.

So pretty much he didn't want to admit he'd been a O-... no.

Blocking that out.

LA LA LA.

"Or rather should I say no physical interest in it?" he corrected, digging his own claws testingly into the dirt before standing up and stretching out, followed by another glance towards Ziarre.

He wasn't going to allow her to get under his fur.

In fact, he was going to spit it back in her face with an unannounced lick on her nose before strolling to the mouth of the den.

Okay, that was it. Pregnant or not, he was going to get it for that. Snarling with venomous rage, Ziarre launched herself at his exposed hindquarters, claws extended in a bid to sink themselves into black-furred hide. "Bad choice of words," she spat, biting at his rump. "I suggest you. Take. Them. Back!"

Oh yeah, she was pissed.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:51 pm

Bad logic on her part as well: A good swipe from him to her stomach could have hurt any little bodies that may have been in there at the given time. Not that he knew that, though.

Well, his first priority was to get her claws out of his already scarred rump, Pyralis hissing before physically yanking his bulk out from under her claws and and swatting at her.

Hmm. He had a way of trying to not harm her.

"Bad choice how? Do you want me to have gotten gratification out of something long passed?"

Hiiiiissss.

"Would you rather I be the type of being who only was in it for the gratification??"

If she asked for a 'why' because of that, he already had an answer lined up juuuuuust for that.

Ziarre snorted, taking the 'bait' of distraction. "Oh, right. I'm not an expert, but you kind of HAVE to have physical interest in order to reach that...state. Anyways, I wasn't really talking about that." She narrowed her eyes at him, not about to admit she'd mistakenly thought he'd been referring to not being interested in her. "..." Well. If she wasn't going to admit interest in what he thought of her, how the hell was she going to ask what he thought?
