The black lioness was perched above the family's den, in a warm and comfortable sunning spot. As she normally patrolled early in the morning, she spent her afternoons being lazy. Getting old was tough! Even though she wasn't as old as she pretended to be, she still enjoyed her time letting the sun warm her muscles, letting her relax so she could face another day out around the borders. Living a bit further away from the rest of the pride helped, if so she could get some peace and quiet, as well as travel a little less than some of the other scouts.

Her ears perked up as she thought she heard a rustling down below. She assumed it was Daemon, as many of their cubs were adults, slowly starting to live their own lives and not live with them all the time anymore.

"Hurry up and join me," she gruntled, rolling over on to her other side. Mmm, the sun felt great today.

Tearh heard her mother's call and ducked down inside the den, peeked out up towards the sun and squinted from its glare, pulled back again, and huddled up in a ball like she did as a cub when she slept next to her mother and father at their sides. She was nervous, shy, and didn't know how to go about saying any word of what she wanted to say. Nervous, she thought, nervous and afraid of what might happen.

She was not the oldest, nor the largest of her family, nor the most adventurous. While her siblings were grown and finding their way in the world, Tearh clung to her home, her parents, and rarely spent a night out of the family den, or at least rarely far from it. Even during the nights, she had not known if her parents knew, believing she might be out and about in her own den, she merely huddled next to it in the back, away from the den portal, and clung to everything she knew.

She had to say something though, tell her mother before things might flee to her father's ears...

Nervous, nervous paws rubbing together.

After time had passed, it was obvious that it couldn't have been Daemon. He was usually much more outgoing, always ready to spend time with her. Unsettled, she pulled herself up off of her perch. She wasn't able to relax knowing that there was someone down there, they just didn't want her to know who they were.

Grunting, Ruffian pulled herself up, stretching out all the little kinks that were over her body. Though the sun was a blessing, she would still get a little stiff from lying around for so long.

With a few steps, she lept onto the ground before her, her brown eyes able to catch a familiar colour. Silver.

"Tearh?" she asked curiously.

Tearh had her head nestled between her paws that framed her face, bright blue eyes staring up at her mother, a nervous smile on her face as her tail curled around her frame, "h-hi mom," she spoke. She stuttered, great, give it away why don't you?

She pretended to yawn acting as if she was just getting up, perhaps then her mother might think the stutter from her mouth was because she was not fully awake yet? Yes, that might work.

"How're you mom?" get the conversation away from her, yes, good plan.

Ruffian was a tad suspicious, but perhaps the rustling had just been her daughter shifting around in her sleep. A late nap, but that didn't mean that it wasn't possible. She swished her tail behind her, her head arched as well as a brow.

"Have you seen your father?" She could have sworn that it was Daemon here earlier. Obviously Ruffian needed more sleep, or she was going to mistake everyone for someone else now.

"And I'm just relaxing after a scouting trip." She shrugged, as it was no different from any other day. "Did I wake you up when I was yelling? I thought that your father was around here....I guess I was mistaken."

"No you didn't wake me up," now her mother would know she was not sleeping after all. Raising her head and pulling herself up to sit on her haunches, she sighed, closed her eyes, ears fallen back, "I waited until dad went out so I could come talk to you, but you were outside, so I came in here," she spoke truthfully.

Nervous ties still gripped her.

"Lately when I've tried to come find yo, you're always with dad, and...I don't want him to know yet, I'm afraid of what he might say mom...I talked to Mkaa, and he said it'd be best to come to you first..."

Ruffian's ear twitched at the concern from her daughter. What was wrong? Tearh hadn't been as clingy as she was as a cub, but it was obvious that she hadn't completely let go of her old habits.

"So you want to talk together in the darkness of the cave? Oh, dearheart," she hsaid, softly shaking her head as she grew closer to Tearh to offer her silver daughter a nuzzle. "You're too shy. Are you sure you wouldn't rather relax in the sun? It would give you a good view in case anyone returns home." Including Daemon. She tried to encourage her daughter, but if she was adamently against it, Ruffian would fold.

"I guess you're right, dad might think it suspicious if he came back and we were talking in here," her ears were still back, she was worried still. Tearh slinked from the inside of the den to let the sun touch her pelt, her tail flicked once before she stopped, and flopped onto the ground and hid her face under her paws.

What would she think, really?

How would she tell her father?

"I just don't know what to do, I don't want dad to chase him away, and I don't want you to hate him," she said softly mumbling to herself as if she was on the brink of a breakdown, "I'm afraid dad will say no..."

Alright. Ruffian was no fool, and she knew Tearh better than how she was acting now. There was obviously something that her daughter was hiding from her. Growing mildly impatient, she tried to cool her head as she herself stepped back out into the sunlight, letting the warm sun rays distract her mind. Until she heard it.

Him.

Snorting, the lioness wasn't too surprised. Oh, she was surprised with Tearh if only because she was so shy all the time, but she was also an adult. And things happened, even if you didn't expect them too. Example, her and Daemon.

"Him, hm?" she asked slyly.

"Yes," she said softly, keeping her face hidden beneath her paws still. Though she peaked now and again as she used to peek during hide and seek. Blue eyes kept shut she curled up. "I want you and dad to like him, he's really nice, but you now how dad is," her father was extremely way over protective of her, even now she believed she saw glimpses of him behind trees following her when she went off on her own.

"I want you and dad to like him, but-" she was silent once more.

She wanted her mother to approve, and to help her with her father, but would her mother eve approve without meeting him?

"What should I do mom?'

"Hmmm." Ruffian raised her head, watching her daughter intently. If it was as she said, she certainly had a hill to climb over. Maybe something more like a mountain. She watched her intently with her half-closed eyes, thinking quickly but thoroughly.

"You've got yourself in a rut, silly daughter of mine," she said with a sigh. She kept herself in her sitting position, wanting to be above her daughter. It would probably help her listen to her mother if she stayed like this.

"First, I can't say whether I'll like him or not 'til I meet him, but that's obviously not going to happen immediately. It's not really something we should keep from your father, but it's something that he should play out carefully." She knew she was going to have to coax him into accepting it. Everyone grew up, even his daughters.

Tearh looked up at her mother, hope in her light blue eyes. "he said he would come over to meet the both of you whenever it was a good time. he knows that dad is protective, but he wants to make a good first impression on the bother of you," she said with a slight nod of her head. "I just didn't know what to do...you know what its like, when you have a funny feeling inside, and you know its good, but your unsure about it, nervous even but you know its good, right?"

She had to know the feeling, had to.

"What should we do? Should I have him meet both of you at once? Should I tell dad first?"

Ruffian laughed. Her definition of a crush turning into something more was much different from her daughter's, but then she had been raised in a completely different way. If she hadn't met Daemon, then she might not have ever 'fallen in love'.

"Honestly, Tearh, I think I should meet him first. I can poke around for all the things that you know your father is going to do, and it'll get him ready for whatever he'll do." Ruffian knew that her daughter was probably in deep, and so she wouldn't mention anything if she didn't like him. As long as he kept her safe and happy, she would be content. Ruffian couldn't look after her children forever.

Tearh nodded and shuffled her paws together, "When do you want to meet with him? I can go tell him when and where, and I can try to keep dad distracted while you go see him," though Tearh was young and naive, not as wise as her parents might be, she did catch on on some tricks of the trade of sneaking around.

"Thanks mom," she said with a sincere un-nervous smile then, her mother always knew what to do, always knew how to handle her father.

"Any time," she said with a wave of her paw. "Just give me a little warning. I'll just say that I need to take you somewhere, and I'm sure your father will listen to me." Ruffian could be a little firm when she wanted to be. "It'll go fine."

She thought about it for another moment and sighed. "We'd have to make it short, or he'll probably follow after us anyway."
