Hisia dashed off in shock of the following news, her paws carrying her to the cave her sister rested in. She knew what she had to do, and she was going to make sure that Haja had spoken the truth; or risk interrupting her sister and finding out she was Nyonda. Teeth gritted, the creamy crouched low, her claws digging into the ground. She continued to walk with a lower pace until she knew it was safe. Ukweli could be watching over her today, Hisia thought. Dread clearly showed on her face as she entered the cave.

To her surprise she didn't spot the familiar gray shape of Ukweli, but to her utter horror she spotted the same creamy shape of... "Nyonda?" She whispered low and quietly, keeping to her thoughts. Best not to say Ficha, if she was accidentally wrong. Drawing closer to the shape of her sister, Hisia felt a hot tear roll down her cheek.

Scars decorated Nyonda's pelt, some still open, healing. It was a scary sight for Hisia; since the lioness had not seen both of her sisters since the earthquake. She had imagined Nyonda was sick, feverish. Except she never did wonder how she had gotten sick.

Now she knew why, and Hisia almost choked in pain.

Ficha had been exhausted after the confrontation with Ukweli, after all the news that had been passed on to her. Although, upon thinking it over, there wasn't much that didn't exhaust the hiding sister these days. Her wounds were still serious, painful, and they sapped a lot of energy. When that was coupled with all the emotional weight that was being placed upon her shoulders, it wasn't uncommon to find her sleeping away the day. The once peaceful slumber that had swept over her, however, was beginning to be a problem for her. No longer was she met with the cool, comforting darkness of unconscious - no, now she was beginning to be plagued by dreams. She supposed there was just too much to think about and her body was not exhausted enough to draw her into the darkness any longer.

It was for this reason that she lay there in the darkness of the cave, Hakiki leaning into her unharmed shoulder, though the falcon was presumably asleep herself. In the shadows of the night, Ficha played the memory that haunted her dreams over and over in her head. The vision of her sister, Elea, Viapo right before the accident. She cringed in the darkness, jolting the wounds that riddled her body, and a low hiss forced its way out of her maw. She needed to be more careful, or she was never going to heal properly.

She hadn't even heard the approaching footsteps of her sister, so when the voice broke through the darkness, she almost thought she was hearing Nyonda's voice calling to her. It wouldn't be the first time she mixed a fever dream with reality. Yet, she rationalized, why would Nyonda call her Nyonda? Her eyes swept up to the entrance of the cave, settling on the figure that could have easily been mistaken for her deceased sister if it weren't for the minute differences.. and the fact that she was dead. A mixture of feelings swept over her as she stared up at the face of Hisia, fear, anxiety, and a burning surge of comfort among them. Hisia shouldn't be there, she shouldn't know, but there was some sense of immense relief to finally, finally be able to lay her eyes upon her family. It had been so long.

She swallowed down the lump in her throat, wishing she could rise up to meet her but knowing that she could barely move. "No, Hisia," she said slowly, shaking her head and sending her darkly tinted mane tuft flopping over one eye. Hisia wouldn't need Ficha to tell her who she was. "You shouldn't be here," she whispered, her voice hoarse as always from its lack of use.

Hisia almost felt paralyzed under the stare of her sister. Except she knew now, staring down at the familiar face, that this wasn't Nyonda. There was a sickening jolt somewhere inside her body. She would've have dropped down to her sister's side to comfort the sick lioness, except she was afraid how much more damage that would cause her, and she wasn't about to cause... Ficha more pain than she was already going through. A smile tried forming on her face, to hide the emotions that roared from every inch of her face...

...And to her horror she suddenly realized her face had become hot. She was crying, to her realization, and Hisia never tore her gaze away from Ficha. Questions plagued her mind, one question she would find hard to answer. "Why?" She whispered once more, sitting down, a sob shattering the silence she had indulged herself in after Ficha had spoken.

"How could you... But I thought-"

She stopped her sobbing sentence quickly, remembering what Ukweli had mentioned to her. Nyonda... No, Ficha... had been put in a cave to heal. She was sick, and he wouldn't allow anyone near her in fear her condition would worsen.

She shook her head away from the thought, tears returning to her eyes. "Are you... Ficha?" It was the least she could ask; even though Hisia knew the lioness before her was Ficha, it was the only clear question she could utter.

Ficha could see the tears rolling down over her sister's face, they glistened in the pale light that washed in from the moon outside. The sob that shattered the silence around them made her flinch, the flinch made her grit her teeth, and when a disapproving clack of jaws from her side met her ears, she realized that Hakiki had woken. The red-necked falcon's piercing eyes swiveled up to find the dark form of the lioness in the shadows of the cave, her sight less perceptive than her new bond's in the dark. Still, she was aware of who was here and how much that someone happened to be working up Ficha. Ukweli really hadn't been lying when he'd said that the lioness in the cave needed rest to recover, even if he had claimed her by a different name.

"The pride needs to believe that Nyonda is alive," she said in that same low, hoarse voice. She was fighting the urge to stand and walk over to her sister, to comfort her. Hisia had always been the baby of the three of them, the sweetest, the most gentle. It hurt her to know that she had been mourning the wrong sister all this time and she couldn't imagine what that must feel like now, but it had really been for the best. "Too much has happened, too much is happening still for them to be.. without a leader." Her voice broke off in a croak as she felt the sting of tears trying to gather in her eyes, followed by the tensing of her body that she wished she could have avoided. She knew the pride was without a leader, but by pretending to be Nyonda for this little time, there was some hope there.

She frowned as the silence broke out yet again, falling down between them uncomfortably. She couldn't have guessed what was on Hisia's mind but she certainly wasn't expecting the question that came out of her mouth. "Who else would I be, Hisia? You know I'm not Nyonda, and I'm certainly not you." She was exhausted, tired, and feeling more guilt piling on top of all that she had been shouldering since the earthquake. She had hurt Hisia and that guilt weighed upon her even more. "What are you doing here?" she finally managed, with a question of her own, staring up with eyes that matched those staring down at her.

Hisia listened carefully, flinching away after she was done speaking. She was right, Hisia thought dreadfully, shivering. Without a leader then the pride would be shattered, and with the disappearance of Umoja, she doubted if the pride would stay together. At least she knew why her sister had filled in the duty of playing as Nyonda. Except... Now she felt guilty for mourning the wrong sister, when she should be mourning the other. She was happy that Ficha was alive, but a new sorrow drenched her mind. Nyonda was the one who had fallen from the earthquake, not the lioness before her...

She froze as she spoke, a question Hisia felt she might not answer. Haja shouldn't be ratted out because of her being here. It would turn into a game of catch if she told Ficha Haja knew. She knew Haja could easily blurt things, but the secret she had told Hisia was one that she would never blab. It was for the sake of the pride that she didn't.

Feeling a twist in her stomach, "I had to see you," She let out another sob, quietly praying that Ficha wouldn't put the pieces together. "I got... worried about you," Hisia's lie was weak, she knew it. But she wasn't about to let word out that Haja knew. It was the only thing she could repay Haja for telling her that secret. "I just... didn't expect you were..."

Hisia shook her head, eyes closed. "I didn't expect to find you, Ficha,"

Ficha eyed her sister wearily as she explained just what she was doing there, watching as the sobs shook her form once more. The feeling of guilt and sorrow festered in her gut, guilt for having to fool Hisia the way she had and sorrow for feeling the loss of her own sister. The scene of the accident flashed across her eyes again, her sister's crumpled form, her lifeless heron companion. She let her claws drag against the floor cave, her teeth gritting in an attempt to keep the tears and sobs at bay. She couldn't afford to get this emotional, not right now.

"I'm sorry that.. you had to find out this way," she said slowly, shaking her head as she did so, though she couldn't make the action very exaggerated due to the wounds that protested with every little inch of motion. "You still should not be here, Hisia. You should listen to what Ukweli tells you." For a moment, she stared at her sister with a stern face, trying to put herself in her place. If she had been on the other end, she no doubt would have worried, but weren't there more important things to the pride than finding a way to sneak in and see your injured sister? Ukweli would have told her if she needed something.

Her irritation at that thought flashed across her face and, despite the protests that the suddenly fluttering Hakiki squawked at her, she pushed herself up into a sitting position. Her teeth remained gritted through the entire motion and though she knew she could not uphold it long, she would not be perceived as a weakling right now.

Hisia felt guilt eat away at her, and in response she nodded solemnly, breaking her gaze away from Ficha to stare down at the ground. She was right, she should have told Ukweli of her concerns, instead she had gone and interrupted her sister's sleep, to find the truth. Though recently she had noticed most of the pride members had disappeared, Ukweli included, and the only one she had seen aside Msiba, was Haja. Their meeting had been short, because she had told her of the secret which had put her in this situation.

Her head suddenly flitted up, hearing movement from above. Her heart skipped a beat at what she saw. Ficha was sitting up, surprisingly, and Hisia had to bite her lip in an attempt to keep her maw closed. She knew how much Ficha hated feeling weak. If she said something on the lines of her laying back down, Hisia didn't know what she would. All she could do, though, was stare in fear. She was working her muscles a little too much... She found it hard to worry how much this would effect Ficha after their confrontation.

"I know... But I haven't seen hardly anyone," She nodded slowly, feeling dread come over her once more. The feeling of guilt followed along again, making the lioness's head cradle helplessly on her should blades. "And Msiba has been reassuring me, though his words aren't helping much anymore." Hisia felt even more guilty that her and Msiba were having a secret affair, but she had to keep it a secret for Msiba's sake...

"Ficha," came the disapproving word from Hakiki as she peered up at the lioness now. Ficha threw a glance down at her though she did not answer. She was settled sturdily now, sitting up, with her front legs beneath her. She was silently thankful that they were not injured and thus did not shake or hurt, though the gash along her spine did ache in this new position; all of her muscles ached for that matter, as she had yet to use them this much. The bird at her side ruffled her feathers irritably but she knew that there was little she could do to dissuade her. They might not have been bonded long but Ficha and Hakiki had spent a lot of time around one another being that she had once belonged to Nyonda.

Ficha let her eyes swing back up to her sister again, listening silently, if a little irritably, to her sister talk about how lonely she was. Her biggest worry was that she was so lonesome, that others were disappearing? She sounded like she was wallowing in her worry instead of helping those that were left. That was exactly what Ficha herself would be doing, no matter what, if she were more capable. She had just been about to say something when that last sentence rolled out of Hisia's mouth and the calm that Ficha had managed to uphold vanished, her eyes widened, and a wave of what could have been rage washed over her.

"You what?" she hissed out, her muscles tensing yet again though she couldn't find it in her to cringe over the pain this time. "You are spending your time wallowing in your loneliness while I'm trapped here in this den with no one to keep me company but Hakiki? Do you know what I would give to be able to be out there helping right now? You take your health for granted, Hisia." She couldn't help it, the anger was rolling off her tongue now, and it had all been sparked by one simple, little name. "Worse, you are letting that snake comfort you?" She knew she should have been more collected about this, not let it work her up, but her head was whirling by this point. What if he harmed her? What if she lost Hisia too? She was angry with Hisia for her foolishness but underneath that she was so very, very afraid. Even if there was no proof yet, her gut told her they were all connected to the attack. Her eyes flashed and her jaw had set in an angry lock - if it kept up, she was going to start trembling.

At her side, Hakiki shifted nervously, trying to decide what to do. Ficha needed to relax.

Taken aback by the wave of anger that roared her way, Hisia took a small step back, surprised at her sister's rush of rage. There was confusion on her face, masking the sorrow that was helplessly welling from inside her. Being so long since she had seen her sister, she had expected some type of anger since she should have gone to Ukweli, but she started to wonder what she had said to make Ficha burst. It was dangerous for her injured health. Her sitting up could be fatal right now. Hisia's head fell down once more, unable to bare any of the things her sister said. Whatever had been spoken between Ukweli and her was becoming curious to her own ears, because she wondered why Ficha called Msiba a snake... He wasn't a snake, defiantly not one to her.

"I-I..." Unable to find the right words after her sister's explosion, Hisia just looked at her, muscles working strangely as she waded her way over to the creamy lioness. She didn't like seeing her sister explode, and with the state she was currently in, it made matters worse. If Ficha happened to become worse after this, Hisia doubted she'd be able to forgive herself. It would've been her fault if she became sicker.

Letting out a sigh, she settled herself next to her sister, eyes still set on the ground. She couldn't admit she had become close to Msiba to her, if she had such a reaction to his name. "I'm sorry..." Was all she could utter, feeling the same sadness overwhelm her. Hisia was at a lose, and with the realization that yes, she had been just wallowing in her worry then looking for the pride members, Hisia felt even worse. She felt disloyal to the pride, she could have done more than sit around...

PostPosted: Sat Aug 16, 2008 8:04 pm
Something about the defeated look on Hisia's features seemed to make Ficha realize just how out of control her anger had gotten. She blinked away the rage at the thought of her wounds and as the numbness that had rushed over her with the adrenaline wore away, she felt the stinging ache of her wounds. She had reacted too quickly, she would surely pay for this later. A soft groan fluttered past her lips at that thought and only when Hisia crossed the den floor to sit down at her side did she finally lower herself back into a laying position. Her body felt an immediate sense of relief as she relived that pressure and Hakiki clacked her approval at her side with a small ruffle of feathers to accompany it.

"Just be careful around him, Hisia," she said finally, feeling sorry that she had snapped on her sister, but unable to forgive her for some things. She knew that Msiba had a way with words but having never been around him, she couldn't judge whether or not her sister was just simply being blind or if there was some merit in his ability to soothe. If Hisia was friends with him, it might be hard to change her mind, but she knew she had to give her some reason to suspect him, even if all it accomplished was making Hisia more cautious around him. She would not lose Hisia too.

"Ukweli was attacked yesterday," she said slowly, turning her eyes up to look at Hisia's face, "by Kitisho." She didn't know what he looked like either, but she knew the names, who the rogues were. She settled her eyes on Hisia's face, not voicing her suspicions, but it was clearly on her face - she didn't trust any of them. She could do nothing from here, in the confines of this cave, and that enraged her as much as Hisia's choice to trust them did. She was stuck here, useless while something might be descending upon what was left of their pride and her sister sat there, befriending those who could very well be the enemy, doing nothing to help.

"Kitisho?" She whispered, looking towards her sister, stunned. Kitisho had been one of the lions of the interlopers she hadn't spoken to. Most of the interlopers that were now wandering the pride were the ones that Hisia had yet to properly introduce herself to. Msiba was the main one; she spent most of her time with him. And instead of helping the pride like she should be, she had fallen for the handsome lion. For a moment there was hidden anger that sparked in her eyes, then it changed to, once more, sorrow. Ficha was right. She should be careful around him, that's what she hadn't been for the past few weeks since she had run into him that fateful day. Feeling disgusted with herself for not being careful, the lioness gritted her teeth, claws starting to dig into the ground.

It was evident that the news had effected her emotions quickly. There was sudden fear as she remembered what Msiba had told her. He was going to send Mapatano to find the others. She froze, wondering what Mapatano would do now that Kitisho had posed a threat. They all posed a threat, except there was one part of her that told her that... Msiba didn't mean a threat. He was being so nice to the pride, how could he mean danger? Sometimes she saw him a little aggravated at times, but otherwise he was usually very pleasant towards everyone. "Why would he do that?" She looked into her sister's eyes with desperation, knowing full well she, herself, might not have the answer. Kitisho had his reasons, but Hisia didn't like the idea of reasons either way.

Ukweli was one of the seers of the pride. He had taken over the fragmented group, and watching over Ficha's health. If Kitisho attacked him in means of killing him... Then Hisia felt that Kitisho might be going after her sister, and there was a sudden surge of protection that surged over her very being. Why would he go after any pride member, and especially if he might mean Ukweli or Ficha a threat! "I think Kitisho was one of the lions that had disappeared..." Hisia murmured, glancing over at Hakiki for a second, before her gaze drifted over to her sister.

PostPosted: Sun Aug 17, 2008 9:54 am
She watched her sister as the emotions rolled over her, her eyes flashing down to the claws that dug into the den floor. She, herself, was trying her hardest to remain calm; already, exhaustion was sweeping over her aching body and her wounds were throbbing with the pain of her exertion. "Yes, Kitisho," she said, continuing once she was sure her sister wasn't going to strike out or do something unpredictable. "Ngao found them before he could.. do any damage," her mouth twisted sourly around those words, as if she were avoiding saying something more malevolent, "and Ukweli got away. Ngao is injured, but she will survive." She hadn't seen Ngao since it happened but she truly wished she could just to understand what kind of shape she was in. Did she need more help, now?

Her voice had remained mostly calm, until Hisia brought up the question of why. In the little time she had been awake since Ukweli had spoken to her, she had mulled it over and over in her head. She knew she didn't need to tell Hisia about the cubs, where they had gone, but that had played a big part in her ideas. He had seen the cubs being hurt, and sent them away, what if whatever those fools were planning had involved the cubs? Her eyes narrowed as a flash of anger passed over her, her body working to stay still. The simple thought of those interlopers touching one of the cubs, one of her kin, made her seethe. "My only guess is that he's our Seer, Hisia," she said with a frown, "and the one in control while I'm hurt. Without him.." She shook her head, refusing to go on. Without him, they were powerless.

"Disappeared, indeed," she said with a bit of a sneer, though the motion made the injury over her nose crinkle uncomfortably. It wasn't the most deep, thankfully, and it seemed to be healing fairly well. "Just remember what I said, Hisia. Be careful." If Hisia had set her mind that Msiba wasn't dangerous, she didn't think she could change it now, she just hoped she could put some caution into her thoughts. "We don't know how deep this goes and we don't know what might be coming next." She turned her gaze to look up at her sister, worry pouring from her eyes. She was so powerless to help her, laying here in this cave. If anything even happened, she'd be the last to know, the only lioness that wouldn't be able to help.

It was in that moment, as she realized how useless she had become, how many of those she loved were in danger while she lay here, that she realized what she had to do. She had to get out of this cave, injuries or not, and help. She wasn't sure what she could do, but anything would be better than lying around. Nyonda wouldn't have taken this lying down, she would have been out there for the sake of her cubs! A determined look passed over her weary face, her eyes flashing as she looked past her sister to the den entrance.

Mm. That's why. She caught a part of Ficha's voice as the words whispered through her head, in response she let out a sigh. There was too much going on. She finally was caught up with what had recently been going on, except she felt the same pain she had felt only shortly after the earthquake. The lose of a sister, the group Msiba lead entering the valley, and not to mention everything else that had been going on. A shake of her head sent the bustling thoughts away, and she pursed her lips together nervously. Having noticed the look in Ficha's eyes as she stared ahead of her, Hisia felt her heart beat furiously against her rib cage. "I'm sorry," A whisper barely audible, she flinched away soon after saying it.

She was sorry because she knew how much Ficha wanted to be out there, then in this cave, stuck, being cared for as she healed. Though through and through Hisia would do anything to see her sister up and walking, with how the pride was doing, if they found Ficha instead of Nyonda, then they would most likely shatter. Hisia could almost hear the voices of Ubele and Ufunuo; Nyonda's cubs. What would they think of this? She realized she had thought of the cubs, and wondered where they had also disappeared to. Hopefully they were safe. Though as soon as she let the thought pass her mind, she was immediately back to thinking of their reaction.

Their was a pain beat from her chest, the lioness gulped, messing her paws around quickly. "I know how much you want to be out there," She looked to her sister with love in her eyes. If Ukweli wasn't visiting every so often, she might have asked if she could stay and comfort her sister. Except if Ukweli found out Hisia had found out, and had come bustling in here to find two sister's curled up together, she feared his reaction. He wouldn't be too happy; she thought with sadness. "So, are you going to tell Ukweli, about me knowing?" Hisia hoped Ficha wouldn't wonder more. It would be obvious to guess she hadn't just padded in to see her sister, and found Ficha instead. But with Ukweli visiting and caring for her, she figured he knew the secret. He seemed a part of it, and one... to think of it.

"I know he should know, but his reaction... what would he think?" She didn't know if her sister knew that answer. Ukweli was nice, kind, but even Hisia didn't know what could happen if he found out about her confronting Ficha.

"It's nothing you did," she said, rather brokenly, in response to her sisters words. After getting so worked up, just as she had with Ukweli only a short time before, her body was already ready for her to crash down into unconscious again. "I will be out there, soon enough, even if it kills me," the determination in her voice was hard to miss, evaporating every little note of her words. She didn't truly think she would die from simply getting up and forcing herself out there, it was simply an expression, but as soon as she said it her eyes flashed up to meet the loving, similar ones of her sister. "You know what I mean," she said softly, trailing off, aware that the last thing Hisia wanted to think about at that moment was another one of her sisters dying.

"I'm not sure if I'll tell him or not," came her response finally, after she sat brooding over the idea for a few minutes. "He might already know from what I've experienced with him and if I lie to him it will surely not please him," her brows furrowed at the thought of how one went about lying to a seer - or at least thinking one could get away with a lie. There was never any way to tell what he had seen and what he hadn't - she was sure he didn't tell her everything, or anyone, for that matter. "I will just have to judge my way carefully, I think, and decide when I finally see him again. I think he deserves to know, if only because it gives him someone else to help with.. me." She frowned at that though, but shook it away with a quick shake of her head.

She simply shrugged, defeated for the moment by her exhaustion, and lay her head down upon her paws. It would have been nice if Hisia had been able to stay with her through the night - she missed having company terribly, as Ngao and Ukweli could only find small amounts of time to visit her now. "We will just have to see," she said, broken with a yawn as her eyes began to lid.

But of course, she thought about it. The only image that ran passed her mind was her other sister, dead, and with her paws starting to feel numb from shock, sometimes she wished that her sister wasn't too determined about things. Even though her being determined about helping others was great; she knew her limits, and Hisia wasn't about to let her push her limits to the max. She would have to wait when she healed fully; she thought with eyes tiredly drifting over towards Hakiki. She had realized, with a start, that her energy had also started to fade. She was becoming tired once more, and for the past few nights she had noticed a pattern of staying up all night, then becoming exhausted when the sun climbed over the valley once more.

Standing up, knowing that Ficha must be as drained as her, she nuzzled her affectionately. A smile appeared on her face, a sad smile; at best, since she was still plagued with the thoughts of the disguised Nyonda. Worry was taking toll on her, and before the lioness could say anything else, she slowly padding towards the entrance. "Good night," She murmured, turning her teal gaze back towards her sister, another concerned look itching on her face. There was longing there, too, since Hisia wished she could stay with her sister. Though the consequences if Ukweli found her could be...

Who knows, she thought, maybe he might let me help her... Turning away, the lioness crept out of the cave slowly, feeling her pace grow slower and slower with each passing step. She didn't want to leave Ficha, and would have loved to stay near the cave. With a sigh and with much guilt, her mind reeled, looking ahead for a place to sleep.

Who knows what tomorrow would bring.
