Pearl paced outside of her den in the very early hours of dawn, chewing on her lip in a sort of uncertain distress. She had been ill earlier and was feeling very tired and hungry at the same time and had the instinctual prodding to find clamshells building in the back of her mind and she had a darn good feeling as to why... And it scared the hell out of her. She knew it had been a possibility, but she hadn't expected... She shook the thought away and sighed, sitting down beside the slow water of the creek that led away from the lovely little pond her den was built into one bank of.
She had no idea what to do. She had to tell him, of course, for it was just as much her vampiric... What should she even call him? Friend? No, they were more than that. Lover? Yeah, but she wanted to think there was more to the so far unnamed relationship they shared.
She sighed again and ran the back of one paw over her stomach, feeling the touch even through the chemise she wore (She hadn't had the time to get dressed when she left the den). The sky had just begun to lighten above her, so the world was still thrown in a sort of darkness as the poor princess mused about the future and the changes that would soon come.

The vampire had finally decided to retreat back to the den that he now shared with his sweety, Pearl. She was a nice thing to come home to every night, when his exploring and marking was done.
He went put most nights to catch food or to run and run and run.
But as the dawn seemed to approach, the male would always return home, into the arms of Pearl.
She had been acting funny lately..She'd been getting sick, and he worried for her with her fatigue and hunger being as constant as it was.
But she had told him everything was fine, so then everything must be..He was an otter who took things as some said, and if she said she was fine,he wouldnot pry.
His leather jacket clung to his pelt as he made his way back by following the creek.
Stepping inside the smaller whole they called home, he called out.
"Pearl? Pet, you there?"

But of course, she wasn't there, of course, but her ears did perk at the sound of his call. It was an odd thing. She could always hear him when he called... well, that wasn't true, but she did at that point, very faintly and pretty much knew where he was. She was careful when she slipped into the water, and under, swimming into the tunnel that led up into the den. Her head poked up out of the water in the warm darkness of their home and she stepped from the chilly liquid, shivering a bit.
"Sorry, I was outside," she spoke in a hushed tone, stepping over the dried grasses she had covered the floor with, walking towards the larger otter in the darkness. She rubbed her head against his cheek and yawned a bit, the shear fabric of her under-gown clinging to her sleek, pale fur. Her ocean-colored eyes managed to catch his in the dark and she forced a smile over her worries. She could be herself with him. Sure, she was witty and sharp-tongued, but she was also unsure about a great many things, and right now she was sure the reason she shivered again was from fright and not chill.

He had been in the darkness of their cave for quite some time now, and then her voice rang out.
Of course, it was a whispered, muted version of her voice, but her voice nonetheless.
"Hello there, love."
He said, walking over to her and giving her a nuzzle of his head to hers.
Stepping back, he grinned.
"Howve you been this night?"
He asked, swishing his large thick tail and looking at her with sea green eyes that gleamed even in the darkness.
Sure he wassupposed to be bad, and in some ways he really was. He liked to eat small animals, and he liked to drink the blood of those animals, and he liked a good fight..
But he was classicaly attached to the female named Pearl, and it had become apparent that the two were getting closer with each day.
"Dark night out tonight."

"It is," Pearl replied shortly, leaning heavily into his nuzzle. She sighed and shook her head. She thought about telling him she was fine, but... She lied to most others, the least she could do was tell him the truth.
"I'm... Scared, Spike. Something... Something's changed," she replied using that soft, almost timid tone that clearly reflected her fright. She wasn't a timid creature, she wasn't easily frightened. But the future, what would come... She needed his to lean on, and she wasn't sure if he would be there, if she was right. Sure, what they had was fun, but this would be a big change indeed.

Spikes face instantly became one of concern, and possibly rage that someone could have scared her so badly.
"Who was it, pet? Who does daddy need to hurt.."
He said, petting her head as he licked her cheek.
A bit ironic that he would have had to call himself that in a time like this..He still had no idea about the news she was going to give him..
Only the knowledge that whoever had scared her, would pay, and dearly.
"Spikes here now, pet..No need to fear anymore.."
He said, taking her in his arms.

Pearl closed her eyes as he pulled her close, almost laughing at his reassurance that he would make the thing that had frightened her pay. Considering what scared her wasn't a living thing, he really could go through with his threat.
"Spike, promise me something. Whatever happens, unless you hate me, please don't leave me," she asked, her eyes opening to look up at him and then back down again, unable to meet his gaze when she spoke next.
It took a few moments but she finally managed to attempt to say what she felt she needed to tell him.
"I've... been ill, recently. And, I think I'm gaining weight, but... it's not me, exactly. I think..." she bit her lip, hoping he would understand her meaning. She hated being blunt, even when she was attempting to explain to the only non-"family" male in her life that there was a good possibility that he would be a father soon.

Spike cradled her to him, and spoke in a soft, caring voice.
"Pet, I would never leave you..Im too attached."
He said with a sly grin.
But when she couldnt meet his gaze, he grew concerned.
Had she cheated on him? Had she become pregnant by another male?
Surely not..that couldnt be what she was referring to.
But he cocked his head, listening to her next statement.
If she was pregnant, he would stay by her side..But if they werent his, he couldnt promise to love them..
"Are you.."
He couldnt finish, and he didnt show her the thought in his head about the pups not being his..He'd wait until she told him.

"I think so... Spike, I know being a father's a... I'm worried about being a parent, too," Pearl sighed as she spoke and found herself able to smile, if just a little. She was glad he was too attached. She didn't want to have to wonder about having made the wrong choice in him. And it was starting to look like she had been worried for days for no reason at all.
"It's a big responsibility, and I wouldn't have blamed you. I mean, we didn't plan this, but... It happened, if I'm right, and I don't think I could take it, without you," she continued and looked up to rub her cheek against his.

He sighed a breath of relief as she said the children were his.
Wait..
What?
His jaw dropped for a moment, and he cocked his head with his eyes wide.
"Pet, are you trying to tell me Im gonna be.."
He paused, gulping, then tried again.
"I mean that you're going to be a..a mum?"
He asked, standing completely still as if afraid that moving would make everything come undone.
He was trying to be cool, but this was big news for the still young otter.
His blue eyes gleamed.
He and Pearl had created life..He was okay with that..he hadnt been aware he actually could..
"Me and you?"

"Yes I... wait, of course it's you and me... Spike, you didn't think-" Pearl broke off with a gasp, her eyes wide. A soft slime crossed her features and she kissed his cheek.
"Spike, you should know that you're the only male I would share my home and nest with. No one else will ever share that privilege," she assured him, smiling up at him happily. He wasn't upset! He seemed downright surprised, as if he didn't think it could happen. What a strange thought. And it was very true. She wasn't about to go lying down for other males when she had a perfect, handsome, and very charming one waiting for her at home. He might have particular eating habits, of which she was well aware, but he was still perfect to her.

He smiled, and gave her a nudge of his nose.
"I will be here for you, pet. Im not going anywhere.."
He said, tentatively reaching over to rub her belly, while looking up at her.
"Those are ours.."
He said, voice soft.
Maybe life was turning around for the male..Maybe life was hapy with him once again.

Pearl put her paws over his, looking down at them as she did so, and then looked back up at him, her smile had grown.
"Yes they are. And they'll be perfect," she sighed and leaned against him, closing her eyes.
"I'm sorry, if I worried you earlier, or in the past few days. I wasn't sure at first, and then I didn't know how to tell you," she added and hummed a bit, something she sometimes did when she mused. He always was the one she could be honest with. And he was honest with her, to her knowledge.
"Spike, is something wrong? You seem disbelieving that we could have pups..." she asked, a little confusion in her voice.

He smiled at her ability to think something was wrong when he was just in awe that it was possible forhim to be a father. He couldnt help himself.
But shaking his head, he spoke, that softvoice gone with the voice of arrogance.
"Im goingto be a bloody father. Hear that world? Im am an amazing otter."
He said, puffing up his chest, his smile proud.
Then he looked ot Pearl, his voice softer again,losing instantly the arrogant appealhe had just held.
"Nothing wrong, pet. Gotta gimme time to get used to the idea and all."
