WARSAW, Poland - A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a U.S. missile interceptor base exposed the ex-communist nation to attack, possibly by nuclear weapons, the Interfax news agency reported.
The statement by Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn was the strongest threat that Russia issued against the plans to put missile defense elements in former Soviet satellite nations.
Poland and the United States on Thursday signed a deal for Poland to accept a missile interceptor base as part of a system the United States said was aimed at blocking attacks by rogue nations. Moscow, however, felt it was aimed at Russia's missile force. "Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent," Nogovitsyn, the deputy chief of staff, was quoted as saying.
He added, in clear reference to the agreement, that Russia's military doctrine sanctions the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them." Nogovitsyn that would include elements of strategic deterrence systems, he said, according to Interfax.

Twizted Humanitarian tough talk and sabre rattling at its finest. it occurs to me that even if this not sabre rattling there is really only way we can show russia that we're not messing around is to show them a united front in the fact that we oppose them and are not afraid to lay down our lives if they use thier nukes we will use ours on them.

I doubt their stupid enough to use nuclear weapons. the uk and germany should just move a couple a brigades into poland and russia would probably back off.

unless that would only make them feel forced further into the metaphorical corner, and use one in desperation.
There is a clear lesson here, once one has nukes, the world is pretty much at thier mercy if a fanatic in power decides to destroy the world in a mass murder suicide... the chances of that however are slim, but even so we should not let countries who do not currently have nukes achieve nukes. The less nuclear players in the world the better, right now were at 8 or so, we probably shouldn't have another.
