i must ask what is ugly about your body?
i have also decided to start working out again but that is only so i can build up my endurance and stuff. i like being able to run a several flight of steps without getting tired and things of that nature. I have no tips, so just good luck.

I work out, although I'm not super-consistent... 'cause I need a friend to go with me to keep me motivated, but I have none (all my friends have gone back to school or moved out of state) sad

I finally lifted weights today, normally I've just walked. I was so proud of myself. I do walk pretty regularly, though.

But I'm needing to focus on weights a lot, I just get self-conscious going in the weight room 'cause I'm bigger and I swear all the skinny people are looking at me and laughing sweatdrop But I need to 'cause I've plateaued with my weight loss, but more importantly 'cause I stand up a lot for my school/work and after I graduate cosmetology school I'll still stand a lot, so it's rough on me. Losing weight would help my feet and legs, but also I just need to build up my strength. And since I have to bend over the shampoo bowl, which hurts my back, and keep my arms at shoulder height a lot, I just need to work on building strength in my arms and back.

So no tips, but I can ramble at you about working out biggrin

I take walks, sometimes on the treadmill. When I'm on the treadmill I read and watch Animal Planet so I don't get bored. whee

i find that some do stare but not laugh. i think its mostly shock cause they tend to think big people are lazy and wouldnt go to a gym. though then again the gym i visited was a campus one, so that might make a difference. Also i only noticed guys looking so it could have been my breast they were staring at since i had the biggest in the gym. who knows. I say screw them cause its not about them, its about you.

I don't actually have people stare, at least not that I've caught, but I'm paranoid that they're glancing at me and being all "What the hell is she doing her? That is so gross." I shouldn't worry about it, but the gym is where all my self-consciousness comes out.

Plus, my gym has mirrors in front of the machines so I got to sit there and stare at my stomach while I was using the machines, and surprisingly it wasn't inspirational. I know they have the mirrors there so people can be sure they're using the right technique, but still.

I also always get self-conscious because the sports bra I wear minimizes my boobs, so my stomach looks even bigger to me, so I feel much more un-attractive. Going to the gym is probably the place I feel least comfortable with my body, and the sad part is I love working out. I was only going to lift weights for fifteen minutes yesterday just to get started, I ended up doing it 40 minutes 'cause I got in the zone.

Of course, then I weigh myself today and I'm two pounds heavier than yesterday (which is frustraiting 'cause my mini goal weight is 215 and now I'm back to 219... if I can't even lose 4lbs there's no way I'm going to be able to lose the last 19 to hit my main goal weight) when I walked three miles and lifted weights.

I know I'm probably just building muscle and I shouldn't weigh myself daily anyways, I know it's more important to look at measurements, but it pisses me off! I've lost 30lbs and now I'm stuck.

I need a friend to go with me, but my gym is a rec center for my city... so my other friend I could probably get to work out with me can't join it without paying extra.

Today I learned the true value of exercise.

I never really got into the whole calorie counting thing, so i didnt see a 150 kcal sugar free pudding cup to be a big deal.

Then i learned that 15 minutes of running burned only 15 ******** pudding.

Is it really that little? I've done a treadmill telling me how much I'm burning for about that time and it told me at least 80, but it might've been my speed.

I could just be retarded, I never used one of those fancy treadmills before and it wasn't making me go very hard.

But still, all that effort? eep.

Yeah, it's probably that I go hard.

Like, if I see that I'm burning only so many calories I'll be like "SPEEDING UP!" and finish running if I have to. And I set some sort of goal for 75-100, depending on what it is and how tired I am.

That's why I tend to stay away from machines other than weights and just walk the track, so instead of running a shorter time I exercise walk 3-4 miles. for almost an hour.

well weight is a factor in that as well. I mean a person who weighs 220 burns calroies faster then a person that weighs 145. So keep that in mind. I dont calorie count but i do carb count for my diabetes.

I usually always try to have a friend come run with me when i go run a few miles or so, it feels really awkwerd doing it by myself.

I also try not to go over the 2000 calorie guidline, even if idont excersice. If you take even an extra 5 calories in every day, in a year you will gain 15 pounds *shocked*

I need to be losing 15lbs, but that's in about three weeks, lol.

Tomorrow I'm starting back seriously trying to lose weight, although I'm not really going to aim for 15lbs in 3 weeks as I'll gain that back so fast, and it's just not healthy.

I need to find friends to work out with, I'm so isolated right now crying

WHAT!!!!???? WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! Where is the world there here that bullshit. 3500 calories is a pound, 5 calories a day only adds up to about 1800, which is a little over half a pound. What ever your source is you need to replace it with something more accurate. 15lbs is 52500 calories, so you need to add like 144 extra a day. If 5 calories did that much damage, everyone would be morbidly obese by age 10.
So if you want to lost weight the goal is 500 calories less on top of your recommended intake. So if you are suppose to eat 2200 calories a day to maintain, you can eat 250 less and workout for 250 calories or some combination of 500. That is the healthiest way to do it.

I think I'm going to have to disagree with both of you. Erm, well... I dunno, it's more an extension of that, that those facts aren't just cut and dry.

I've always heard, and this makes more sense to me personally, that it's based on your weight and muscle mass.

That's why somebody who is built like me, with extra muscle so they weigh about as much as people much bigger than them (because muscle weighs more than fat) will lose weight faster.

But the more weight I lose, the more I'd need to cut back my calorie intake or up my exercising to produce the same weight-loss effects.

So the calories I need to gain 15lbs in a year will be somewhat different from the calories somebody else would need to intake to gain that weight.

Although now that I'm re-reading Vixen's post, we might be saying the same thing and I'm just confused. I just noticed the "recommended" calorie intake.
