User Name: LilyEvansDouble
Teacher Name: Joshua James Johnson
Age: 29
Years teaching at the Institute: 5
Class that he or she teaches at the Institute: Mathematics
Reason you're teaching at the Institute/History: Joshua grew up a rebel in school. Suspended for fighting at least twice a year he grew to know his principals very well. In fact, during his senior year his principal told him that Josh was the student he knew the best. Josh was not a fan of studying, but everything came easy to him. In fact, the only thing that ever really hurt his grade was the fact that he didn't do his homework. Otherwise he would pass with flying colors. Josh was the youngest of 5, and the family was all boys. His poor mother died of a heart attack when he was 10, and after that his father became strict in rearing the boys. Since Joshua was always in trouble he found himself over his fathers knee almost every day all the way through High school. When he would come home with suspension notices is the only time his father would use a belt, but even then Joshua didn't flinch. He knew he deserved what he was getting, and had no problem taking the consequences. It wasn't until Josh moved away to college that he settled down. He met this pretty girl by the name of Katerina and fell in love. Katerina was a delicate princess type of a girl and Joshua tamed down so he could have a chance with her. Saying good bye to all his rebelious ways the two got married and currently have 3 children. Two boys by the names of Jason and Levi, and a beautiful baby girl named Safire.
Since James was a rebel in school he thought he would be most needed in a school like Wales so he could help others. Even if they weren't rebelious like him he could still give aid and show love. He applied at the Institute for a postition fresh out of college at 24 and secured the spot. Using as many interesting ways as he can to teach the class he continued to teach and has loved every minute of it. This is his fifth year teaching, and he can't wait to see the students again.
Personality: Joshua is a fun type of guy when you behave. He is a very strict disciplinarian though having learned from his father. If you manage to break his rules he will have no problem taking dorm points and giving out detentions. Having grown up in detention he feels no pitty if a student is missing an after school activity and if the student complains enough he will add on to the detention. He's not a big fan of dorm arrest, but he knows that the rules are there, and if you break a serious enough one he will give you a dorm arrest. He understands math can be hard to understand so does his best to make it fun. He loved learning with one of his teachers as she passed out m&m's to show the distributive property when he was in pre-algebra, and has always tried to make it activities like that so the students can understand. Josh is also a very big fan of notes and has his students do at least one page a day. At certain times he will collect the notes for a grade and dock for any day missing. Attendance, punctuality, and participation are a big part of his rules, but neither are above respect.

~Rules~ 1. Show Respect Respect is my number one rule, and it's what I will be strictest about. Don't get me wrong, I will be strict about all rules, but this is one I will not tolerate being even slightly bent. If I see disrespect in my classroom, or even in the halls you will have points taken from your dorm, and if it's in my classroom you will have detention. That is a gaurantee. 2. Come Prepared I am here on time and ready to teach you every day. I expect the same from you, and unless you want points taken from your dorm, and to sit in detention you will be prepared and on time. I do my very best to respect you, and I expect the same in return. 3. Participate This class is only as fun as you make it. I try to do activities to help you learn, but it's also a lot of work. Math can be easy, and I'm going to show you how. You will be expected to participate though, and it will be part of your grade. 4. Do your best I don't grade on how well you suck up to me. I grade on how hard you try. If you're struggling and getting many answers wrong on homework and tests and you just leave them, you will fail my class. If you work hard to improve them though, talk to me, talk to your peers, get some help on understanding, you will pass. I expect all you can give me, because that's exactly what I can give you. Grades don't show how smart you are. They show how disciplined you are. 5. No electronics I don't do this for my health. I am here to teach you not watch your little lights and sounds go off. I will have no cell phones, ipods, mp3's or anything like that in my room. If I see them the first timethey will be confiscated and you can pick them up from me at the end of the day but you have to do an exchange. In order to get it back you have to hand me a 1 page, single spaced essay on the distractions of electronics. The size will be 12, and it will be typed. The second time you can pick it up from me after your detention that night with a 2 page single spaced essay on why you think you're special and deserve to have the device while nobody else can. The third time you can serve 7 detentions with me, and after the seventh one you can get it back from me by handing in a 5 page single spaced essay on a topic I give you your first night of detentions. The fourth time I catch you with it, you will recieve 2 weeks detention, and you will not get it back unless your parents come talk to me at the end of the school year. I deal heavily on respect, and electronics in my classroom show a lot of disrespect. Therefore, on top of the consequenses just explained, you will also lose your dorm 10 points each time I catch you. 6. No food or drink It is very rude to sit there eating or drinking while we are trying to learn together. There are lots of things you have to do with your time besides sit in here and enjoy your lunch hour. If I catch food or drink in my classroom I will take 5 points from your dorm, your food will be confiscated, and you will have detention.

Permission Form
Mathematics can be fun, but you have to want it. If you would like to join my class I would ask that you fill out this form. Entitle it Mathematics Sign-in, and I will get your name up on the class list if it is acceptable. If it is not I will send it back to you and ask that you re-do it. Do not post in my classroom without being on the list first or I will think you are in the wrong class and you will not be allowed to stay. Also, full sentances are required. I know that this is not an English Class, but you guys should show some control and know how to write a full sentance or you are in way over your head.Dear Mr. Johnson, Why do you want to be in my math class, and you must have a better answer than it's required. What class will you be in? What is one thing you hope to learn from this class? What is one thing fun about yourself?
Sincerly, Your full name

~Policy's~
Tardies I do not tolerate tardies in the slightest. I am here on time ready to teach you, and I expect you to be on time ready to learn. The first time you are tardy you will lose your dorm 5 points. The second time will result in a detention and a 1 page single spaced essay on a topic I give you at detention that night due the next morning in class. You will also lose your dorm 10 points. The Third time you will recieve an unexused absence. For that consequence see the Absence Policy.
Absences I do not tolerate unexcused absences. If you are going to be absent just soot me an email as soon as you can and if it is a good excuse I will excuse it. If you are sick I expect you to go to the nurses office to get a note. Unexcused absences are unexceptable. Every time you recieve an unexcused absence the consequence is the same. You will recieve 7 detentions and you will be expected to hand in a 5 page single spaced essay on a topic I give you during your first detention. The essay will be due when you walk into detention on your seventh day, and you just cost your dorm 15 points.
Homework You will have homework everynight, and each morning I expect you to turn it in completed. I will not accept incomplete work, and if you turn it in late I will give you 1/4 the points it's worth. I encourage you to turn in all your work. Even if it's late. Some points are better than none.
Talking You will not speak when I am speaking. That is one of my pet peeves, and I hate it. I don't usually babble for my own pleasure. What I have to say is important to this class, and I expect you to at least be quiet while I teach it. I will allow you to talk quietly when I give you time in class to work. Talking while I'm talking will hurt your participation grade, and if you do it enough can land your butt a seat in detention.
Board Notes Every day in class we will take notes. I expect you to have a notebook just for this class so you can take the notes. Periodically we will turn the notebooks in, and I will grade you on if you took the notes for each day. This is worth 2 asignments, and for every day you don't have notes I deduct points.

Anna quietly walked in and took her seat. She didn't want to create too much attention to herself so just slid in silently. She couldn't believe the chief was sending her here. She had never thought he would try to get rid of her like this, and it hurt. All the pain she had been through in the past five years just seemed to flood back with the fact that she had been sent away to go to school away from the reservation. When she had first set foot on white man territory she had started to cry thinking about the last time she was off the reservation but the chief had been firm and taken her to the school himself. She sighed as she took out paper and pencil preparing for whatever the teacher would teach her, but not really sure what to do in this situation. Chief had told her a little bit, but she wasn't sure all of it was accurate, and she wasn't sure if there was anything else she should do.
