The day had dawned a little crisp, a little cloudy, but with a nice westward wind, and the colt inhaled deeply as he surveyed the sky from the top of a small hillock. Luckily the sun wasn't glaring too bright, it always threw him off when it got into his eyes. The fact that it was sheltered behind a few clouds gave Alexiel a good feeling. It was a perfect day for flying. Or, practicing anyways, it would take him a little while before he could truly fly...he could get off the ground a little, but after that it was a bit of a downward spiral and he usually ended up falling -not very gracefully- on his face. Alexiel's parents had been trying to teach him, and it was sort of working...it was just how to get his wings to work together to hold him up properly.
He figured that he knew the basics, and now all it was was a matter of practice. After all, practice made perfect. Or so he hoped. Which was another of the reasons he had decided to practice so early. Less witnesses. Because as much as he absolutely loved having adults coo and older foals chuckle at the foal clumsily trying to learn to fly...it was just not cool. At all. Of course they found nothing embarrassing about it, and of course they wouldn't. It wasn't embarrassing at all. For them at least.
Alex sighed, but then straightened up, determined to give this thing a good shot. He raised his wings, feathers carefully preened like his mother had showed him. The wind was blowing favorably, so maybe that would help him even more. He hoped so, he'd like to get a good glide in, maybe work on those landings a bit too. Crashes weren't exactly the best looking landings, nor the most comfortable. But he shouldn't think too much about that. He could do this. With a snort, he stepped forward.

Breathing in heavily, Moani trotted happily, her one set of rather strange wings flexing by her sides. She had a smile on her face, and her trot was full of pep! She didn't know why she was in such a good mood, but it didn't bother her either. Being happy and carefree was one of the best tidbits in life, as long as you knew how to deal with it correctly. Even if you didn't though, it could be fun and full of life! These were some of the things her mother had taught her, and so far, she had treasured them so.
Watching some faint and fluffy clouds sailing on by, the foal decided that today was probably another good day to continue practicing her flying abilities. She had slowly begun to learn on her own, and much without either of her parent's help. She would of gladly invited her brother to learn along with her, but he was land bound. So, instead of rubbing it in his face, Moani simply went off somewhere where she could practice alone. Of course, she told her mother where she had gone and what she had done, and she seemed to understand perfectly. Therefore, the blue toned fillt had no worries.
Smiling and bouncing in excitement now, Moani took a stance for herself, her wings stretching far and wide out at her sides. The slight breeze felt good against each and every individual feather, as well as her thick coat around her stomach and legs. With a deep breath or two, she looked up at the heavens above, knowing she belonged within them, just as her mother did. She knew that they called to her, and she was quite desperate to reach them. She just knew she could do it.

First thing first. Deep breaths, after all, he had to be sure he was good and steady before just charging ahead! Alex remembered the first time he had tried to fly, and well...it hadn't been pretty, to say the least. He winced slightly at the memory. At least it hadn't been a harsh landing...though straight into the river wasn't exactly the best way to land either. It had been more than a little embarassing, and he hoped sincerely not to repeat an episode like that. Hopefully with this practice, he wouldn't have to.
Though, it was kind of too bad, that he didn't have anyone else to learn with. Breifly, Alexiel's thoughts flew back to contemplating the siblings he didn't have, the one's that everyone else seemed to. He did find it a little odd, how he was alone, when everyone else had brothers and sisters. Though, the friend's he had met had said they could sometimes be annoying. Still though, certain times it would be nice to have another foal his age to learn with. Someone who was near the same level as himself, so that he wouldn't feel like a complete fool flying in front of them. And the company would be nice. Though Alex wasn't a social butterfly by any definition of the word, it did get lonely sometimes always playing by himself. Of course, he had met a bunch of other nice foals, but more often than not he found himself alone. And his momma had said that flying with someone else was the best feeling ever. Unfortunately, that other to fly with didn't seem to be materializing anytime soon, so he'd just have to figure it out himself.
He shook himself out, mentally chastising himself for being distracted, he should be thinking about flying! Focus, he reminded himself. Right, focus, he could focus, he could do this. Another deep breath...and...go! With a little shuffling of hooves, he set off at a good canter, heading for the crest of the hill. Reaching it, he spread his wings, trying to remember what he had been taught. Wings wide, but relaxed, feathers tight together...feel the wind, let it lift you...He was doing it it! So maybe it wasn't as graceful as his parents, and it was sort of more of a glide than anything, but still, better than nothing! A wide grin spread across his face and he flapped once, rocking quite unsteadily, but managing to stay airborne as he coasted down the hill.
Unfortunately for the colt, his focus might have been too good, for he didn't notice until very close, that he was rapidly approaching a strange blue shape, like a little piece of the sky, only it wasn't the sky, it was -
"Soquili? Watch out!" He cried anxiously at the filly who was staring dreamily into the sky. Trying to react quickly he spread one wing, pulling the other to his side, and veered sharply to the side, narrowly avoiding ramming into the blue filly. Unfortunately, that move had worked much better when Alex had tried it on the ground, and, doing it for the first time in the air only managed to dump him unceremoniously onto the ground in a heap. Hopefully he hadn't hit the filly...
"Sorry!" He apologized, jumping up and turning around too see if she was okay. "Are you alright? I'm kind of new to the flying thing...so, um...I'm not very good." He said, blushing in embarrassment. What a great way to make a first impression.
