Which do you prefer when watching an anime? A dubbed over version in English or whatever, or it's good old proper Japanese with subtitles? That's what I am here to find out, so enlighten me to your thoughts!

Whatever one is more readily available. It doesn't matter to me, as long as I can get my fix in the quickest way possible. xd

[heh...this is about what your watching right now isn't it?]
I hate to sound ignorant but I always like to enjoy my anime and not read the subs(give my brain a break)and It's always a hit and miss with the english voice actors(I think the death note dub was the best!)and then of..course there's the horrible....horrible misses...*cough4kidscough*Some japanese directors like the english voice actors over the japanese ones!
To stop this rant I say that i'm going with the DUB!!

Actually it's about what I've been watching in the past couple years... xD
I've watched several series in both Japanese an in English, and I'd have to say I favor subtitles more for the most part... yes, Deathnote and a few others were enjoyable in both English and Japanese (R.O.D the TV too! heart ) but a lot of series can actually lose viewers because of their English versions... like I hated the English version of Azumanga Diaoh... just pissed me off, I watched it in Japanese... found it a lot better, but you know... everyone has their preferences...

I agree with you bro but usually I'm not partial so long as they match up the damn timing. I hate it when their mouths move and then the words or text come out 5 seconds later. It always throws me for a loop. burning_eyes

Oh lordy, 'THE DUB OR SUB' wars. Lord knows I hate these.

Well, let me be the first to say the truth, the very controsversial truth.

I WATCH DUBS AND SUBS and I am not ashamed and I should not be. Now, I must admit, there were a few shows that were dubbed horribly in the past *cough*One-Piece*cough* (Don't even try to say that the first time you watched "DBZ" or "Pokemon" was in Japanese. Do not lie!) but there are some that are done well and if you didn't know; many of the VA's are fans of Anime just like us.

My reason(s) for watching dubs:

1.) My computer is too damn slow to download subs and I do not have the patience for YouTube.

2.) Many of the subs (I've seen) are poorly translated.

3.) When I'm watching something, I don't want to feel that I. have. to. read. everything. the. characters. say. in. poorly. translated. Japanese.

That's what books are for.

4.) Have you ever considered that maybe the show sucks in Japanese (and every other language) as well? You know, that it wasn't really good to begin with? DBGT is one I think of. And I watched it both Japanese and English, and guess what? I still hated it.
*cough*let'snotforgetNaruto'sFillerArcandYugiohGXladiesandgents*cough*

So there, I'm not saying the dubs are THE BEST AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST, AMERICA #1! RAWRRAWRARWRAWAR!.
-post9/11paranoia-

No. No. NO. I am not saying that. But, what I am saying is, just because it's a dub, it does not mean it MUST BE TERRIBLE. Trust me folks, it's the same on the other side of the Earth. Boondocks dub, anyone?

END of Rant.

Off Topic: And Karasu, I second you with your manga argument. The Fullmetal Anime disappointed me, in both Japanese and English.

I would lying if i said that i didn't like subs. Japanese voice actors sound much more cuter than some of the North American voice actors. Dubs on the other hand i got to say that i favor more because i like some of the voice actors voices, like Luci Christian blaugh

I think in the end it all really just depends on who's in charge of translation and typing and who's in charge of casting.... sweatdrop

I agree with you there, Agito. I also must agree with the preferrence of manga over anime. I believe my manga collection is still bigger than anime. Yun Koga and CLAMP are always best in manga form (enough time to drool without worrying about too much damage *giggles*)
PostPosted: Fri Aug 15, 2008 8:29 pm

Heh heh, I forgot to mention that... I tend to like the manga forms of everything best of all... 99% of the time...
My manga collection is definately bigger than my anime collection because A, manga is cheaper, B, there's USUALLY (not always) more in a manga, C, I love books, and D, I only own one anime set... that wasn't downloaded and burned... v_v') So there's my reasons... oh, and I just like paper... heart

First off, I LOVE Clamp!

*settling down now*

My manga collection is about as tall as I am and I'm 6'1" and my anime collection goes about to my waist and I'm most always broke with no extra money for such things. I only own like one or two animes that I didn't actually buy. Lets not take this into how many I've actually seen or read please, that would take forever.
