I thought it was supposed to always be hot, come summer?

The wind brushed calmly through the grass, waving each strand together. The sun was slowly beginning it's descent, casting an orange-to-purple hue over the skies all around.
A light smile rest on the Stallions maw, as his medium-length purple mane billowed around him, mimicking the movements that his tail now made almost perfectly. He stared with his dark orbs at the setting sun, body oddly relaxed.

He'd just finished a long run, and now found himself just watching the skies after getting his drink from the near-by river. Though he wasn't so much one to stare at skies and remark on how beautiful they were. No, he was more one, to go off and race through the woods, or put himself on some sort of adventure.
But it was a calm night.
His eyes fell mostly half-lidded, his shoulders relaxed, tail moving only with the wind.

The sun was setting which meant another day was coming to an end. Soon she’d probably have to find a place to settle down for the night but not quite yet. A friend she’d met as filly once told her that the fun didn’t have stop just because the sun had gone down. That was true but there was never anything to do at night anyway, everyone had gone home, gone to bed and most of the time it felt like it was just her out in the world.

Refusing to give up so easily tonight she continued trotting along, watching the sun set lower and lower with each step that she took. Time passed so quickly and it seemed like, even though she was still young, her life was passing by so quickly and she hadn’t done anything with it yet. Soon though, soon she would do something about that. Well, she hoped so.

Just about ready to give up and go find a place to sleep for the night, Kahili saw someone standing in the distance. He seemed to be perplexed by the sunset, sure it was beautiful but wasn’t he going to hurt his eyes just staring at it like that? “Excuse me,” she said quietly as she approached him. “Sorry to disturb you but aren’t you going to hurt your eyes looking at the sun like that?”

His mind had wandered off, though his gaze still held strong on the sky, on the sun, the rays stinging his eyes slightly.. though he only barely noticed.
In truth, he didn't notice at all, until he heard the voice of the near-by mare, and he blinked, lids going down over his eyes and wetting them slightly. For a short moment his gaze seemed to blur a bit, before returning to normal, as he looked at the mare.
He would've gasped, if it were in his character to do so.
The mare that stood before him now was beautiful, much like his mother,... and yet different in almost every way.
"Ahh.. I.." He shook his head mentally, silently yelling at himself for spacing out like he had. His mind went back a moment in time, trying to remember exactly what it was the mare had asked him.

..aren't you going to hurt your eyes looking at the sun like that?

"Ahh.. Yes. I guess I just.. spaced out a bit. I'm going to regret doing that some day,..." he said, a slight grin slipping onto the right corner of his lips, dark eyes taking a moment to scan the mare that stood in front of him quickly, before returning his gaze to her own light-aqua eyes.

Kahili smiled a bit and laughed a little. “Yeah you better be careful about that. Staring off into the sun isn’t the best place to start even if it is pretty.” She turned her head to watch the sun, her eyes squinting a bit. The end of the day was always the saddest but yet it was the prettiest time of the day. The sunrise was also fun to watch but for some reason the sunset was always the brightest and the most colorful.

Once the sun had fully set below the horizon though it was easier to admire the colors without damaging her eyesight. “So why’re you out so late? I thought I was the only one who stayed up at this time.” She turned her head and smiled at him, almost wondering if he could see straight at the moment. He had some interesting markings that she’d never seen before, it looked almost like there were actual vines snaking up his back. Then again she had flower petals on her back so anything was possible right?

A set of chuckles rumbled in his throat for a moment, as he too narrowed his eyes a bit, glancing again towards the sky, careful not to hold his gaze on the sun too long this time around. "I'll have to keep that in mind.." He said to her first comment, tearing his gaze from the slowly dusking sky, again to the mare.

So why're you out so late?
His brows raised slightly at the question, and he couldn't help but to chuckle once again. "Night is when all the fun begins... Some or the more interesting Soquili come out at night... that and.." He paused, glancing at the river a ways ahead of them, seeing how the sun sparkled, and the colors of the sky mirrored on the slowly moving water. "..Everything's prettier at night." He pictured in his mind, when the moon mirrored on the water. His grin softened to a smile at the thought. One of his more silent pleasures, you could say.

"Actually, I'm surprised that a Mare like yourself is out... The night is Dangerous, you know..." He looked at her, holding his gaze on her own, jaw clenching slightly for a moment.

Kahili rolled her eyes a bit at his statement and snorted lightly, her gaze turning back to the bright colors. “You sound like my dad. He always made me stay with him at night when I was a kid. ‘Lots of dangerous creatures out there at night, you’re not to go exploring when it’s dark’,” she said in a mocking tone. “I haven’t seen anything dangerous since I’ve been out so I’m starting to think it’s all a joke.” She glanced at him. “Why? Have you seen dangerous things out at night?” She doubted he had, he was probably just pulling her leg just like her dad used to do.

She did have to agree with him about the night being very beautiful. She wasn’t up in the middle of the night but she was sure it was pretty in its own way. “Yes it is pretty. I don’t usually stay up too late but the moon and the stars are very much pretty on a clear night. I should stay up more often to see them,” she said with a light laugh. Her dad used to talk a lot about the stars but she didn’t remember much at the moment.

He inhaled a deep breath, jaw still clenched as she made the mention of how he now reminded her of her father. Well, that wasn't exactly what he'd been going for.

"Personally? No. I haven't run into anything in the dark... but my mother on the other hand, was almost attacked by a mutant, and my sister, a Kalona... or two. I really can't remember." He'd looked away as he spoke, lips pursing together lightly. Finally he sighed. "It seems all the monsters out there tend to prey on the pretty mares..." He had to force himself not to look at her again as he spoke, instead holding his gaze again on the skies, noting how much the sun had seemed to set in moments alone.

Finally he looked at her, the grin returning. "The night is beautiful... and.. tonight seems like it will be wonderful.. If you haven't seen the stars before.. I think you will soon,"

Kahili turned her head and looked at him, a shocked expression on her face. Maybe they weren’t making up stories. “A mutant and kalonas?? Well…Um..I hope your mother and sister are alright. I just didn’t think there was really anything bad out there but I guess I’ve been lucky. I travel alone at the moment so I guess I’ll have to be more careful.” She couldn’t help glancing around through the darkness just to make sure nothing was going to sneak up on her at the moment. What would she have done if something or someone had come after her in the past? Honestly she didn’t know and didn’t want to think about it anymore.

“Oh yes I’ve seen the stars. Just not recently. I doubt they’ve changed much though,” she said, returning the grin. “My dad tried to show me some of the constellations but I was young and I didn’t really get it. Something about the dippers and a belt or something.” She laughed and just shook her head at herself. “That probably sounds pretty weird, huh?”

Autiren eyed her for a moment, chuckling a bit more. "They're fine. Both got out without even a scar... my family is full of strong mares,..." And even stronger stallions.. he forced himself not to tack on, not wanting to make himself sound too cocky.

"Sound weird? No.. not at all." Something clicked in his mind, and he raised his head, looking over at him, brows raised slightly. "I'm Autiren." He paused for a moment, before dipping his head slightly, in a more formal greeting.

“Oh well that’s good,” she said with a smile. Even the thought of someone she didn’t know getting hurt from something like that was dreadful to think about. “Oh crap, my mom would have my head at my lack of manners. I’m Kahili.” She dipped her head in a greeting as well. “Pleasure to meet you Autiren. I have to say I’m a fan of those markings you’ve got. I’ve never seen vines on another Soquili before. It’s very unique.” She smiled again, her eyes drifting back to the sky that was now starting to completely darken. As she tilted her head high she could see the moon and even start to see some of the stars starting to pop up, twinkling brightly in the dark sky.

Kahili,...
"It's a... pleasure, Kahili." He said, his voice low, grin still plastered on his lips now. His grin widened a bit, as the other made a mention of his markings. He turned his head to the side, taking a glance at the vines that covered his back. He chuckled lowly, not moving his head, but turning his gaze to the mare.
"You yourself have quite.. stunning markings. Petals, flowers, spots... a beautiful combination, if I may."

For someone that usually spoke lowly of mares, he thought himself to being quite good of sweet talking this one.
...Well, he thought he was sweet-talking her, at-least.
For a moment, he held a quiet stare on him, before letting out a slight grunt, swallowing a small lump that had formed in his throat. Again his jaw clenched, as he raised his head to the sky, finally catching the first solid glances at some stars in the sky. Again the grin softened into a simple smile.

Kahili blinked at the compliment and turned her head to the side shyly with a little smile, thankful it was too dark to see the color change on her face. “Well…thank you. No one’s really given me compliments before…” Which was true except for maybe her parents but from a stallion she’d never met before it was…strange. She focused on watching the sky for the time being but could feel an awkward silence coming on and there wasn’t much she could do about it right now. “Um..So do you just stand here every night or do you usually go somewhere else?”

((Meh *pokes teh shortness*))

[XD tis fine]

"You're welcome." He said simply, before letting out a sigh, deciding to push the compliments behind them.
An awkward moment isn't an enjoyed one, most of the time. He was glad Kahili asked another question, or else the silence undoubtedly would've continued for another moment as he scrambled for something to say.
"...No,... Well, sometimes,.... but most of the time I like just wandering, or racing around... trying to find what things hide in the dark... What good things, that is.." He said calmly, tilting his head a bit, staring at the horizon, just as the last bits of sunlight disappeared behind the grassy hills and in the distance.
"But sometimes I just go to places I've seen in the day,.. just to see what they like like, at night.." He added.

Kahili just nodded. “That sounds interesting, I’ve never thought of doing something like that.” After that it seemed that silence was setting in again. This was very strange indeed. Usually the mare had tons to talk about but for some reason there was just nothing for her to say right now. Maybe it was the darkness that got to her or maybe it was this stallion…Who knew. “Why don’t we go somewhere else then, see what we can find, hm?” she asked as she sent a smile his way. “It’ll be fun, I haven’t really explored much at night.”

((Blaaaaah I'm losing it! ;.; *kicks muse*))
