I've heard that said before. Sometimes I find it amusing that people consider themselves to be at a 'higher level of black' than others. I soppose 'acting black' to some would mean mimicing other African Americans.

I get accused of being "white" a lot. I guess it's because I don't act ghetto. I think people say in order to act "black" you have to be ghetto. gonk

Wow nice Guild.....Bare with me a bit while a rant....
What exactly is acting "black"? How can you act black? That is a colour is it not? This really pisses me off. One because im accused of it all the time and two its just idiotic. Just because I dont hang out with the balck kids or wear big clothes im less black than some gangster guy walking around with his pants falling off of him and yelling out the "N" word. Another thing that really irks me is the fact the most black people dont like other non-black people saying the "N" word but they walk around saying it. That word is deleted from my vocabulary.....Excuse me but "Ni**a" and Ni**er are not different. STOP WITH THE IGNORANCE!!!!!

STOP WITH THE IGNORANCE!!!!! ya heard... but yeah, i used to get that a lot in school, because i dressed differently and didn't use the slang that others used (when i did, i thought i sounded dumb). it really made me feel small at the time to have my own people tell me that i wasn't really one of them. then i realized, what the hell, i don't want to be one of them if they're going to be exclusive about being small-minded. that's the most backward thing EVER. and now, i don't care. if you're Black then you're Black. if you're ghetto, then you're ghetto. as long as a person's ignorance is not equated with me because of visual correlations, it's all good.

It's a shame! What on earth are we thinking by telling an educated black child that they are not "black enough" if they speak proper english. Nowadays, we just let ourselves fall into that "ghetto" stereotype because blacks feeling they aren't "black enough". You can be black without all the Rainbows, Fashion Cents, and Nikes okay! Me on the other hand, I will say someone needs to get in touch with their "blackness". Especially if they don't know who Harriet Tubman is! I know a girl who is fifteen and doesn't know anything about slavery besides, this statement, "It doesn't matter. My dad's white my mom's black. Lincoln freed the slaves and it doesn't matter." Being mixed is okay and had nothing to do with what I asked her, but c'mon you have to know your history!

I've been told that I'm like a white person trying to act black. So I suppose that means I'm not black enough.
But, the thing is, the person who told me that was white.

hmmm.....i don't think that you can actually "act" black. However, black nowadays has become more of a pop culture figure. For example, the whole rap and gangsta scene. In short, being black has crossed over into our social culture. cool wink
