Angathi was deep - further from shore than even the deserted city he had been raised and protected all those whiles. His reasoning was his own - he wanted as much distance between him and those EVIL Landers! The kelpi had stayed with his impulsive son Icarus for as long as needed to make sure the colt would survive in the Sea.... but then he left and didn't look back.
The Betrayal was too much.
"Mishos," Angathi yelled to the air-endowed sky, "she betrayed me!"
Mishos was dead, but the broken Knight forgot that quite often. Besides - a voice answered. :Now, how can she betray you? You never asked, did you?:
Angathi grumbled, "I shouldn't have to ask - Kelpi, especially Knights, do not mate with Landers! It is.... forbidden. The gods don't allow such abominations to live!"
:But they were not struck down; you were not struck down,: the voice, which sounded so much like Mishos, laughed.
"That does not change the facts." Angathi growled, and with a splash of water dove down, as if to escape the voice that haunted his mind.
While he was out to Sea, there was an island nearby, and surrounding that island was a ring of thick coral. Angathi's red hooves softly touched the sandy floor, and he curled up on that ground. At his approach, the small fish all dove for safety, but as he watched the coral and anemones without moving, the inhabitants gained their courage. Angathi watched as they swam around, and even came to offer their small snippets of appreciation to his cheek and neck. The hardened Knight smiled, pleased to just be watching them in their normal, daily lives.

Opal had not kept still for very long since the day she had left 'home.' She had found little reason to remain in one location for more than a few days. Invariably, something might catch her attention for a while, but it was only a matter of time before her interest faded and she moved on to 'better things'.
One thing she had noted, was that thus far, any stallions she had encountered were no different than those she had seen growing up - just as gullible and succeptible to her charms. So she had a lovely thing going for her. She had collected various baubles and jewlerey that she wore with pride (and quite fashionably if she did say so herself) from some of her encounters. She had been shown good places to find the tender kelp or other delicacies of the sea, and she had had good times. But nothing worth staying around for.
So Opal had explored the near-surface before she had decided to return further out to sea - a whole different part of the ocean from where she had grown up. Food tended to be more difficult to find in the deeper waters; the sunlight never filtering that deeply into the ocean, but there were wonders none the less.
And sometimes, the dark depths rose up once again for a time, as if needing a break itself from the cold darkness of the deep sea and to find the air once again. It was such a place that Opal now found herself - a oasis of shallows thriving with life: rich corals and small fish, tender seaplants, and wriggling anemonies.
She glided over the corals, pausing to nibble at some of the plants when she did a double-take. She had almost not seen him there amidst the bright colors of the various coral and swimming fish, but a stallion rested there amidst the other sealife.
Immediately, Opal's nonchalant exploratory demeanor shifted, and she seemed to take on a wholly different set of mannerisms. Her hair floated about her face, shrouding her eyes, and her movements became smaller, closer to her body. Shyly, she inched just a bit closer - indicating her having seen him but not closing the distance. "Hello there." She spoke quietly, hesitantly. "I do hope that I did not disturb you?"

The fish were shy, and when someone's big movement readjusted the smooth flow of the water. Frightened, the fish dove for the safety of their coral. Angathi frowned, but didn't look behind him where the voice came from. He could hear that it belong to a female, and possibly young by the shy tone she took.
"No, you're not disturbing." The stallion watched the coral carefully, sending thoughts of wishing the fish would come back out. He wriggled his ears to try and tempt them back out.
It worked, for a small handful. They came out and went to his ears, see if they were food. Angathi continued to move his ears, and carefull dipped his head back to see behind him and at the newest arrival.
"You can join us if you want," he didn't seem to know quite what he was offering.
Once his red eyes could see the arrival, he paused and that gaze intensified. She was a full-grown Mer, and one that looked quite noble. Angathi blinked, trying to see if she were only his imagination. She was one of those he protected from the horrors of the Sea and more especially, the Land.
Without a thought to those fish, like he had before, Angathi jumped right to his feet and stood straight. He gave the distinct appearance of a soldier, or Knight. The stallion could almost see Mishos by his side, trident poised to the surface defiantly. No, Mishos was there, he could see the Mer-man Knight quite clearly.
The stallion was taken back to the time, where he was whole again, and Mishos still lived. No - he did live. His kelp harnes was even still in tact in his eyes, not the ragged bits that still clung to his form. He had his own set of jewelry and gems, gifts of thanks for all the work he did.
"Milday, what are you doing out here so Deep? Why did you leave the protection of the City?" Angathi's voice ran smoothly. "It is not safe out here."

If there had been any doubt in Opal's eyes as to the promise of the kelpi stallion she had found, his sudden snap to formal attention wiped it away. He stood proudly on the sea floor as if this were the court of some kingdom, and addressed her with all (well due) respect. This was more like it. Not some dopey mer-stallion like the few she had encountered previously. Granted, dopey mer-stallions were perfectly useful for getting what she wanted, but she grew so tired of their antics and easily frustrated by their ideas of a good time being chasing dolphins or the like.
She drifted closer to him, careful to keep her eyes cast downward demurely, her tail movements small and precise. Her eyes roamed over the bits of kelp that clung to him, wondering but not asking. Had they been jewlerey or tack at some point in time? Or perhaps he had been wandering alone in the sea too long and not bothered to clean himself after swimming through a kelp forest. His demeanor seemed to imply the first, but there was a strangeness to him - a distance. Opal couldn't help but feel a mote of curiousity.
"I must have managed to get myself lost." She responded with a practiced note of wilting frustration characteristic of the proverbial damsel in distress. "Before I knew it I had gone so deep, but then I saw the seabed rise up and I hoped to find others. It seems that the spirits must have guided me right to lead me to you, kind sir."
But what city did he refer to? Opal had never known any cities. The rare small herds of other mer soquili, perhaps, but certainly not cities... although she had been gifted before with a very exquisitely crafted shell necklace that could not have been made with hooves that she still wore. As much as she detested the thought of allowing herself to be tamed by one of the man-lings, she did love the beautiful treasures that they made.
((Adding a note here as of Oct 7, 09: since it's been quite a while since this RP had any activity, I'm going to go ahead and consider it inactive. No hard feelings whatsoever, I'm just trimming down my rather intimidating list of active RPs I check routinely. If you would like to pick it up again and continue it, just drop me a PM smile )).

Angathi smiled kindly, as if he were talking to his younger sister. "This is a big place, and the Deep does tend to call to many." He took a step forward, his foot disrupting the floor by the coral. A couple brave fish swam forward to get a taste.
"Come, I shall take you home. My name is Angathi, and the Knight behind me is Mishos. Don't worry, he will not harm you." Or at least, slight behind and at the side. The kelpi wondered why the Mer-man was seemingly shy in front of the Mer, but did not think much of it.
"And who are you, Miss? So that I may take you to the correct family?"
As he waited for a reply, Angathi glanced over her. She was a beautiful mare, for sure. Her bountiful mane flowed easily to and from, and her jewelry reflected that glint in her eyes. She really was beautiful... now that he thought about it. But, surely she was beyond his station.

Opal's brow furrowed briefly. Knight behind him? She certainly did not see any others nearby. Kelpi, mer, or manling. Perhaps he spoke of one of the many small fishes that had come out of hiding to search for food in the stirred sand. For the moment, she did not speak of it, but her guard was raised.
Perhaps there was another hidden in the reefs. She would mind herself and keep an eye out.
"You do not need to take me anywhere, sir." Opal said with a deliberate quaver to her voice. "It has been some time since I have seen my family. I am just glad that I could find another such as you, and a gentleman at that." She lifted her head just enough so that her mane parted to let him glimpse her eyes for a moment, before dropping her gaze once more.
"You may call me Opal." She said softly.

Angathi tilted his head to the side in thoughtful confusion. "Nowhere? But this is a very dangerous place. There are sharks and other such worries out here. You should not be left alone."
He paused in his movements as if listening to smething far off - maybe a memory. But he had no memory that came to mind. "Well it is nice to meet you, Opal." The stallion bowed to one knee, his bridle remains slapping his cheek.

She could play the wilting flower for a time. She had had little that had stolen her interest for a while, so she did not mind so much that had taken upon himself the role of chaperon. She just hoped that he was not too dull.
She eyed the seaweed-like material that looped around his face. Odd jewelry. Or was it something that a merman had put on him? If he tried to make her a tame pony for them then she was gone. But for now, her interest was piqued.
"Oh thank you so much, noble sir..." She trailed off, hinting politely for him to give his name. "I do not know these parts of the seas well. I was fortunate to find you."

Well, if Mishos was going to be so quiet and hidden... then he could just ignore him! Angathi was not impressed with the actions of his mer-knight who didn't seem interested or to approve of him helping out a wandering Mer.
Angathi took a deep breath, his eyes only for Opal, "It is no trouble, my dear - none at all. You may not wish to return home immediately, but I can at least show you around a little so you might be prepared for the dangers and delights of this area."
The kelpi walked forward and to the deep coral where some of the colorful fish were back to their daily grind. "Do you know of the coral creatures, Opal? Many of them are quite delightful and very pleasing to the eye. Although, you are probably used to such pleasant views."
Before she could reply, he wiggled his ears and twitched his tail in a very specific order. It didn't take long for a few of the fish to come forward to investigate the current changes. Soon, Angathi had then swirly around the two of them. "Ahh!" the stallion smiled warmly as a blue and green fish dislodged from the group to nibble at the kelpi's outstretched tail. "And this little guy has just left his home to explore - just like it seems you have."
With the little fish following his tail, Angathi convinced it to swim towards Opal.

There was the slightest hint of impishness as he mentioned the dangers and delights that this region of the seas could offer, but it was quickly squelched by a charming smile. "Hopefully more delights than dangers" She murmured and edged deliberately closer.
Her eyes shone as he lured some of the shy fish from their hiding spots, luring them with his fish and making them see like so much kelp fanning in the current. Opal had seen reefs before, but never had much of an eye for the small fish that skittered in and out of the coral. She was generally much more interested in the baubles that she could wear - such as shells or particularly colorful pieces of coral that she could take from the reef.
Playing with curious fish was not exactly Opal's idea of a good time, but she could see what the kelpi was playing at. Show the delicate mer the little fish, charm her. She'd play along, play the curious and nervous maiden lured to a feeling of safety and wonder by the stallion.
She gasped quietly as the fish swam closer to her, biting her bottom lip. Carefully, slower, she brought her tail around, letting the translucent fins wave tantalizingly towards the fish. Just briefly, for a moment, she glanced towards Angathi as she waved her fins luringly.

If anyone were to say his actions and discussions with Opal were anything but an attempt to be kind, then Angathi would deny it to his very core. It was nice to have one of the majestic Mers talking with him, though. Many times, they felt too high of themselves to have any kind of discussion with a 'lowly' Knight. Their job was to look pretty, while his was to protect. And that was all that he was doing, he told himself as the Mer edged just a little bit closer.
She was a quick learner, and soon one of the fish caught sight of her fins. Angathi seemed interested them as well, and he inched closer towards her, his eyes locked on as she let her tail move ever so slightly - motion in the current. "It seems you have an admirer," he chuckled softly in her ear, as the small fish wove back and forth out of sight as it swam around her fins.
So what, he could have a little fun too, right?

She was quiet for a time as the small, colorful fish edged closer to her tailfins that ebbed along with the current.
When he finally spoke, she peered at him out of the side of her eyes, smiling demurely. "Perhaps.." She barely whispered. "I have two...?" She inquired, blushing immediately afterwards and turning her head.
The billowing mane covered her more sly smirk.
Note - it's been some time since this RP has had movement - I'll go ahead and consider it closed for the moment - but drop me a PM if you want to get it going again.
