Some authors change their name for some reason. I think I might, but I'm not sure. Would you?

I would because I like my privacy and (not that I will or would become famous but...) and it leaves readers thinking your mysterious...or an egotistical author, but hey I don't care.

I like my name - I'm not planning to change it (IF I get published). In fact, I may not even change it for marriage... lol

It depends... I might use a pen name for privacy, but I don't know if I'd want to do that. It also depends on whether I like the sound of my name after I get married (if I decide to change my name) and that will be a while. I would like to get published before then, but that's probably out of the cards. I probably wouldn't change my name though (that was quite a long-winded explanation).

I'd use a pen name just because I'm rather insecure about my skills as a writer and because of the distance it allows. If any of my friends read it, I'd want to see what they thought of it without the knowledge that I wrote it influencing their opinion. Similarly, if it sucked, they could bash it to their satisfaction without having to gloss it over because they know I wrote it.

I'd probably use my initials, or maybe first initial and middle name.. not sure though! HOPEFULLY I'll have to make a decision regarding it one day though wink

I wouldn't change my name, but I'd probably use my first and middle initials.

I'd chance it, if only so no one I knew tomatoed me about it...which regardless of the quality, my local peers would do anyway.

I would. I would change it if I became famous in any way... which includes me getting published.

I'd leave my name as is, it is already individual, not many people have my last name. smile

No, but I'd spell it the way I do with my friends, which is different than the way it is spelled legally AND I would KEEP it even if/when I get married because I think it SOUNDS like a pen name.

Unless his is even AWESOMER, my future hubby just better suck it up because I am not changing for my books.

totally, i've got it all figured out see if u use a pen name for one u get the fun of creating a name, u can walk around talking about urself as if it wasn't u (talking about urself in the third person is sssooooooo much fun!!!!) and then u can keep ur privacy, like for example in the stories i write, i tend to base some charcters off of reall ppl, and if i say i hate them and make them totally evil then if it's written under a penname (or "nom de plume" if u want to sound fancy) it can't be traced back to u. ok it can but only if u announce it to the world that u have a penname, but who would be dumb enough for that?

I put that I wasn't sure on the poll before I read these posts, but you people convinced me to use a pen name! Even though I really like my name, I wouldn't want friends faking liking it.

Actually, I'm still not COMLETELY sure, but I'm a little more in favor of a pen name now. whee

Pen name definitely. I have enough people who like me who's opinion I value without glossing over. Plus I would love to be able to start a conversation with people other than my friends about my works and not have them restrain themselves. I would rather someone tell me my work sucks if it sucks than tell me it's good and leave it for me to find out later that it sucks (that is why I love editors, the blood sucking succubi).
