The time had long since come and gone that their cubs were born, and if possible Ayato had only glowed with even more pride as they were finally old enough to be taken out into the world. He was lying on his stomach, one paw tucked to his chest and the other splayed out in front of him casually. Kia was visiting the rest of her family for the time being and Ayato wasn't sure when to expect her back, but had gladly taken on the role of looking after their twins Zi and Kairi. The big male rumbled with a "purr" as he watched their only daughter study her newest find on it's perch.

A brightly colored butterfly had made roost there on one pointed corner, not seeming to mind being stared at by the little cub with the bright blue eyes, and Kairi seemed contented just to look at it rather than disturb it, even as a wide grin broke out slowly on her face.

It was a lazy and peaceful day in the Pridelands, and all was well, leaving Ayato in quite the happy mood, needless to say.

Riziki was perfectly happy to have the day alone with his father and his sister. He loved his brothers, of course, and his mother too, but he had an especially strong attachment to the two lions that shared his white fur.

The cub crept up on the other side of the jagged rock, trying out the hunting crouch he had invented. What a catch that pretty butterfly would make! He wiggled in anticipation, but at the last moment he noticed his sister, who seemed to be enjoying looking at it. With a sigh, he stood up. He really, really wanted to try to catch the butterfly, but he didn't want to be mean to Kairi.

Zi looked around curiously, wondering what else he could practice on. His blue eyes settled on his father's tail. Ayato was looking at Kairi... he wondered if he could sneak around without his father noticing, and practice on him!

Smiling to himself, the cub began to creep away again.

"You're gonna go cross eyed if you keep that up, Kairi." Ayato laughed a bit at his daughter's concentration, aware enough to know that his children hadn't snuck off, and were still nearby, but for Zi's sake he did feign ignorance. It was only natural that he'd have his senses wide alert for dangers to the cubs, but he knew far too well how the game was played, and would not be the one to ruin his kid's fun by being too serious. He kept his eyes on Kairi and a soft smile formed. He wished he had the joy of experiencing this joy every day with his first born too, but couldn't regret his choice to stay. Shula had her family by her side and his had needed him at theirs, with Tai expecting that litter before this last one.

Kairi's voice, despite the fact he was pretending to be distracted, did the job genuinely for a moment of pulling Ayato out of his thoughts. He glanced at her again to find she was concentrating on her subject even as she questioned.

"Daddy, how come me and Ziki look just alike?"

"... Well... princess, I imagine that maybe the gods just liked your markings so much it'd be a shame if there wasn't just a bit more to go around. Like your butterfly friend there. Even though there are a lot of different colors around here, have you ever noticed that they come in sets of two as well?"

Kairi's eyes widened and turned from her study to stare at Ayato. "Really?? So, me and Ziki are like butterflies?"

Zi's complete and total concentraion was in his stalking, totally unaware that Ayato knew that he was, in fact, there. He only vaguely heard the conversation, something about butterflies and gods. At the moment, not even gods were more important than catching his 'prey'.

The cub stalked forward with a fair amount of skill for one his age, but clumsily enough that he knocked several pebbles aside and, at one point, tripped over his own paws. It didn't shake the cub's confidence at all. His father hadn't turned around to look at him, so surely he was still blissfully clueless!

Finally he was within pouncing distance. Zi did not hesitate for a second - he immediately went flying at his father's tail, catching it between his paws triumphantly and giving it a chomp for good measure.
