He had been lectured again by his father; given the same story to the same beat as every other time and he didn't take it any more seriously. Every time he returned from wandering or every time he mentioned walking away he was given the same thing. Be careful, Kyrinos. Watch where you go, Kyrinos. There are things out there that you should beware of, Kyrinos. Always that and yet not once had he run into one of those things.

He was beginning to wonder if his father was simply out of his mind and that wondering would have been confirmed had it not been for the reminders from his mother that his father knew what he was talking about. In which case he probably should have been questioning both of their sanities... But his mother had never steered him wrong before. She had always come off as the more level-headed of the two.

Sighing she shook his head out, making his way through the foliage in the direction of a small stream that he knew was nearby. It wasn't too far from home... Just far enough that he could get away from everything and think on his own.

Oh, how little they knew, the 'innocent' ones. How they traipsed about, unknowing--or uncaring--of the darkness that stalked in the shadows. It was enough to make Amaroq grin with a sense of twisted delight. How positively delicious it was, making them come face to face with fear that they had never truly known existed...and if making them feel it was delicious, drawing it out, savoring it...that was ecstasy.

And it was time for another taste of fear. Which should be easy enough to find, even in this day and age. So it was with a bold, confident stride that Amaroq made his way to the river, making no effort to hide who or what he was. Let them try to fight...let them try to run. The sight of a stallion with a plumed tail made him chuckle softly, a wicked gleam flashing in his eyes. Unicorn blood...fantastic. "A little young to be wandering, aren't you?" he greeted, never one to waste time when it came to mocking another.

His tail ticked behind him in an almost feline fashion as he bit back a rather rude remark, knowing well that he'd been raised better than to mouth off to strangers even when he was in no mood to have his age questioned. He knew he wasn't yet as large as his father and that he still had some time before he was as seasoned as the rest of the small herd that he had come from... But he was at least old enough to go for a small walk on his own.

Instead he shrugged it off with a light toss of his head, blonde mane fluttering against his broad neck. "Perhaps... But I'm not wandering. I know this path well enough. I've walked it many times before."

Amaroq smirked smugly at the first flickers of impatience in the other stallion. A hot temper lay within him...good. It'd be all the easier to goad him into doing something stupid...more stupid than not running at the sight of a skinwalker, anyways. "Oh really?" he replied in a smooth tone dripping with false interest. "Tell me then, what lurks in the shadows? What lies in wait, promising an ugly end should you cross their path? Surely if you know these paths so well, you must know this."

"According to my father? All manners of wretched, vile things that would do me no good to cross paths with. I have walked these trails time and time again and come across no such thing." He spoke with the foolish over-confidence of a boy brought up to believe in bed time stories that had been proven to not exist.

Oh, this was too rich. It was always a wondrous thing to teach ones such as this fear, since the experience tended to brand itself into their mind. Amaroq grinned with maniacal glee at the thought, making no effort to hide sharp fangs. "In other words, you don't know a thing." Shaking his head in amusement, he started pacing in a slow circle about the other stallion. "If you did...well, why tell you when I can show you?" Laughing, he flung himself at Kyrinos with snapping jaws, uncaring if he was thrown back as long as he saw that dark coat stained with crimson.

Fangs had been something that he hadn't expected, although had he a thought to spare in second thought he might have. The pelt coating the other stallion's back should have been a hint but he hadn't paid that any mind either... But now?

Now pale eyes were wide as he whirled around, kicking his hind legs up at the other stallion as he felt fangs scrape at his flesh. His first thought was to panic at the pain although he knew better than to do that; had known better since he was a foal racing away from thorn bushes that had left scratches behind. Panicking would get him nowhere, although running might be a good idea.

He kicked out again, hoping to keep the other stallion at bay before bolting, knowing this area well enough that he should have been able to pick a path away.

Had Amaroq the time to spare, he would have savored the flash of fear across the other stallion's face as the young fool finally caught a glimpse of what he'd gotten himself into, the coppery tang of blood on his own fangs. As it stood, however, he was having the time of his life as he plunged into the forest in pursuit. Shifting into coyote form, thundering hooves became soft-stepping paws chasing in near-silence after the spooked half-unicorn. Let him think himself safe if he dared...

His pulse skipped a beat or two as the sound of hooves faded despite how he'd specifically heard them coming after him. How would he know when to dodge when he couldn't hear anything over the thunder of his own hooves? Had his father ever said anything about that?

Why was he questioning what his father would and wouldn't have done now if he'd spent so much time ignoring him before?

He snorted at himself with disgust as he cut a sharp turn, leaping over a tree that had fallen across the path sometime during the last storm. He had to put some sort of distance between himself and whatever that thing was... He knew at least that much.
