Once Upon A Time...

User Image

This story is about four people from modern day Thebes, Egypt, now known as Luxor, who all live seperate lives and have never met before. Weither they live peaceful or violent lives doesn't matter, however, because one day they are all thrown together, bound by a destiny they cannot escape and with a bond between them that seems to surpass all words. This is a story about people who find themselves one day waking up in the 11th dynasty of Ancient Egypt, during the end of the short but peaceful eight year rule of Intef III. How the story goes from there, however, is shrouded in mystery.

Do they accept their new lives and try to make the best of it?

Do they try to go back to their own time?

Do they accept the ones their fates are now tied to?

Do they shun those they feel a strange bond to?

Their destinies may be set, but a simple turn of fate could change everything in the blink of an eye.

And Thus It Happened

Luxor, Egypt, Modern Day

User Image

In a population numbering in the hundred thousands all crammed into about 416 km squared, not counting the millions of visiting tourists everyday, it's easy to loose your place in the world. For thieves Luxor is one of the greatest cities to live in, with tourists coming and going constantly you can make an easy living off of stealing their money and valuables, and the life of a pickpocket is sweet. Life isn't good for the thieves alone, however, because anyone associated with the tourists in any way is sure to benifit.

The flow of tourists back and forth across the Nile, to and from the ancient cities, fuels the economy and therefore everyone benifits, especially the transportation industry. You would think in a world so based off of tourists they would have no other real forms of industry, but the agricultural field is also high, especially when it comes to sugarcane.

Luxor, the modern version of ancient Thebes, is known as the "world's greatest open air museum" and holds the ruins of two anicent temples within it's bounds. You would think in a city this full of ancient magic you would believe in it more, but four unsuspecting citizins of Luxor get caught in this magic.

Four people, from all sides of the spectrum, from simple thief to millionaire, are taken by this magic and sent back in time to when modern Luxor was the capital city Thebes.

Thebes, Egypt, 2060 BC

User Image

It is the last year of the peaceful reign of Pharaoh Intef III, of course, he doesn't know it's his last year. Soon the kingdom of Egypt will fall back into the series of wars that have been going on for the last several Pharaoh's and will continue for the next several. The short but peaceful eight year reign is drawing to a close, but is about to be disrupted by the arrival of four very unwelcome guests from the future.

Whatever magic drew them back in time seems to not exist yet in this time, and it's up to the four of them to find out why they've been drawn back in time. The magic that stole the four of them away has bound them all together by threads of destiny; a bond now exists between the four of them that is formed by magic and will be strengthened by their own emotions.

It's up to the four of them together to find what they're needed for, and to decided if they're to leave Ancient Egypt or stay, because the magic that binds them can only be broken if they all work together.

1: Obey all Gaia rules unless they are directly contradicted by my rules.

3: Try to keep things PG 17, that's right, 17, not 13.

Fill out this form in 1st person from the point of view of your character in bold in a color of your choosing that you will use, you can find a list of colors here: Colors If there is anything that needs to be said about your character that they themselves would never reveal, put that in black italics in 3rd person.

Anime, drawings, or tektek avatars are fine for pictures, but please... No real life photos! You can link to the picture if the only place you could find it on didn't allow you to display the picture, and if you don't want one at all, feel free to add in a description section.

Also, it's perfectly alright for there to be people who aren't Egyptian in this RP, we even accept gods and goddesses if you feel like being a true god-modder.

When you first enter the RP, only Ancient Egyptians can speak Ancient Egyptian. There's a special priest you can meet, however, who will help you.

Also, intresting note: in modern day Egypt it's advised for women to wear loose clothing and keep their arms covered, but in Ancient Egypt it was common for women to wear tight fitting see through dresses and to walk around topless. Big difference, huh? Now you know why this is PG-17, not 13.

If you think just because I'm a girl I'm going to show you mercy, then you're in servere need of a new brain.
My Name Is Nadira Kanaan
I Am 19 Years Old
I Am A Female and I Am A thief
And I'm straight
People Say I'm arrogant and cold, but I rather disagree; what they see as arrogance I see as confidence, and their coldness is my normally quiet nature. I'm confident in myself and my abilities, I know what I can and cannot do and I will not do anything outside of my limits. I will admit that I have a bit of a temper, and that I can be unpleasent at first because of my sarcastic humor, but I can be quite nice if you don't rub me the wrong way.

What Nadira is rather reluctant to admit is that she's actually a big softie underneath her violent temper and extreamly arrogant additude, which she has purposely brushed off in an attempt to seem even tougher than she really is. She even down plays her temper. In truth, Nadira works her hardest to seem like she's an arrogant, tough-as-nails, street smart thief, and she really is all those things; it's just underneath this exterior there's a tiny drop of humanity and emotion that hasn't been crushed by the world yet.
I Carry On My Person a dagger, a lock picking kit, a penknife and a penlight, a lighter, and a small candle.
I've Been Through hell my short 19 years on this Earth. I was born a rogue and a thief, and that's how I'll die; my entire family for generations has been nothing but criminals, I just decided that I was going to be a "nice" one. I was trained at a young age to lie, steal, manipulate, and kill; I've succeeded in it all. I had every lesson beaten into me with anything that could be picked up and swung at me, so I learned quick to do everything perfect the first time and never make mistakes. I ran away from my family a few years back however, and I've been perfectly fine and well in Luxor stealing from tourists.

Once again Nadira is purposly omitting bits and pieces of her life to make herself seem touger. The criminals she speaks of are on her mothers side of the family, her fathers side completely disowned her father and therefore her because he married her mother. For her first three years she lived happily with just her dad, her mother having been sent to prison shortly after her birth because she "disobeyed" the family, after that her so called training began. When she was eight, however, she went home to her mother and father and spent two happy years with them before her mother died. Nadira had never been able to control her life, but had always been able to save herself from pain by being smart and strong, however the idea of not being able to save her mother effected her so badly she ran away to Luxor to escape the pain of it. She struggled and fought her way through Luxor's underground to get where she is today; sitting comfortably with a hand in every criminal underdoing but with a lot of misery and pent up rage in her heart.

We are all just toxic-waste by-products of God.
My Name Is Jaxon.
But Friends Call Me Jack.
I Am 21 Years Old
I Am A Male and an ex theif
And I'm Straight
People Say I'm a little bit cold. Alright, they don’t put it exactly like that, but I know what they mean. Truth is, I don’t care about any of them. Why should I? They see nothing in me and I see even less in the world. No, Im not just saying this for attention. I hate you. I hate everyone. That isn’t changing any time soon. So call me cold. Call me selfish and sad and a waste of space and whatever else you think of me. I probably feel the same about you.

Expecting me to say differently? Sorry, but any difference in personality is going to have to be developed through this little adventure. But don’t give up faith in Jack; he is still human after all.
I Carry On My Person a backpack filled with necessities like a knife, some cash, two changes of clothes, a lighter, a journal, a locket with a picture inside, and a few other tidbits. Oh, and I don’t go anywhere without my black jacket.
I've Been Through more than my fair share of homes. No, I wasn’t adopted, but seeing how long I can live in a rich person’s house before they notice is among my favorite games. Ok, so I never stay more than one night, but it’s amusing all the same. I get in, take what I need, hide, and then I’m gone by morning.

Jaxon never mentions his history. For him, the past should stay where it is. If you asked he would make up some random lie. In reality, Jack doesn’t remember much of his childhood besides the flashes of images he gets in dreams. One morning he just woke up in a hospital in Egypt. The doctors told him he was an American tourist that was traveling with his mother. Their car had crashed on the way to visit a temple and they were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, his mother had died within the hour, but Jack was unconscious for a week. When the doctors told him of the news he felt nothing, having little memory of his previous life. He didn’t even remember his last name, or if he had a father. He stayed at the hospital for another month while authorities tried to locate his family in America, but when they informed him that no one recognized him, Jack made the choice to slip away and live on the streets. He was sixteen at the time, which wasn’t an uncommon age for children to become thieves in Egypt. For three years he was on his own, but when he was nineteen he fell in love with a young girl. She tried to convince her family to let him stay with them, but because he was two years older than she was and “uncultured” they refused. So the girl, Shayla, ran away with him. They planned to get married when she turned eighteen, but they never got the chance. After living together for only half a year, when Jack was twenty and Shayla was a few months away from eighteen, Shayla fell ill. Now she is in a coma and the doctors told him she would never wake up again, but he refuses to let her go.
Only a little while after Shayla died, Jack got a message from his "long lost" father. Apparently he had known all along that Jack was in Egypt, but with the death of his wife he couldnt bare to see their child anymore. But now his father was on his deathbed and had no one to give his inheritance from. A few days later after this contact Jack received a huge sum of money, which is what allowed him to pay for Shayla's hospital bills. Jack has since retired from thieving and now only takes up the occasional odd job when he is bored, which is happening more and more frequently.

We're all put on this earth for a reason.
My Name Is Hala Zaman
But Friends Call Me Lalu But unless you're very close, she hates it. She thinks it's childish, but it's her family's pet name for her, given by her youngest sister, whom she cherishes above everything.
I Am 20 Years Old but it's hard to guess - she acts like she's 30, until she loses her temper (which is rare).
I Am A Female and I Work At the travel agency my father owns, booking plane tickets and hotels for the tourists that flock here. Hala really only helps out at her father's agency, doing most of her work in the home, caring for her siblings, keeping life running smoothly in her mother's absence. However, she's worked at the travel agency since she was quite young, long enough to be fluent in English along with her native Arabic, and able to converse in French. She is also able to recite a mountain of trivia gleaned from the thousands of travel brochures and pamphlets, though she rarely gives it any thought.
And I'm Straight
People Say I'm dependable, but that I don't get out enough. I don't see why I need to, my family is enough for me, they've relied on me to get everything done since Salma was born. My place is here, in Luxor, like my mother before me. They say I'm too old for my age, but I suspect they might just be a little envious that I already know what I'm going to do with my life. Normally introverted and somewhat withdrawn from the outside world, Hala has been the de facto caretaker of her family since her mother, Nadirah, died shortly after giving birth to her youngest sister, Salma, 3 years ago. The responsibility to take care of them even while she was grieving for her mother aged Hala beyond her years and isolated her further from the world outside her family. Her reliance on her faith to see her through this crisis gave her a strong sense of purpose and compassion, although it came along with a fair dose of self-righteousness. She fails to realize that her world would not suddenly implode if she were to get a life outside her family, and tends to take responsibility a little too seriously. Once she takes on a task, she tends to block out everything else, but she has a tendency to be quite observant and candid, when she chooses to be. She is slow to make friends, but unwaveringly loyal, and inclined to forgive.
I Carry On My Person a small bag with my cell phone, a little notepad with a pen, pepper spray, a small amount of cash, and a large amount of crumbs.
I've Been Through my mother's passing, though Allah has guided me through that dark time, and blessed me with the good fortune to allow that to be the only tragedy in my life so far. I've lived in Luxor all my life, as my family has, for generations farther than we can trace, though we do know my mother's ancestors to be part of the ancient kingdom that once stood here, in the same ruins the tourists gawk at each day. My immediate family here is my mother's mother, frail in her old age, my father, who works day and night, my older brother, Khalid, who is a dear friend to me, and my younger sisters, Nailah, Farah, and Salma. There's really not much more to say than this, Hala has led a relatively normal life thus far. Her brother is soon leaving to get married, and she worries about this, and there is a sister of her father's that no one will talk about, but other than that her family's life has become stable and predictable again, while she holds them together.

Sometimes people put up walls not to keep others out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.
My name is Aleksandr Zuyev
But friends call me Aleks
I am 18 years old
I am a male and I am a college student
And I'm gay
People say I'm obnoxious yet thoughtful, introverted yet talkative.
I have a tendency to dwell on philosophy, and I have read a large amount of Descartes, Spinoza, and other myriad philosophers, as well as a good deal of the Holy Bible and the Quran. I rarely talk very much about anything, since I haven't really interacted with anybody on a deeper-than-surface level since coming to Egypt, but the one thing that can get me talking is philosophy. Metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, all of it can get me talking. In addition to my obsession with philosophy, I also have a somewhat secret love of art in all its myriad forms. I especially love music and clothing; I always have at least one headphone in my ear, and I will use any opportunity to put on a nice suit, even if it's just a small, casual event.
I carry on my person a book, my iPod, and my phone. I also tend to have a small notepad and pen in my back pocket, as I fancy myself a writer, and I like to be able to jot down any ideas as they come to me.
I've been through too many schools to count. My parents are divorced and live in opposite corners of the United States - one in Florida, the other in Washington - and I have never attended the same school for more than three years in a row. After graduating high school with surprisingly high marks for a student with such frequently-changing schools, I traveled to Egypt to study abroad.
Truth be told, I also traveled to Egypt to escape the things that I hate about the United States, not the least of which are my distant and detached parents. My father is obsessed with his work, my mother with her search for a new husband, and so my closest acquaintances are not family, but the few people I forge relationships with at school before I move again. And after a few disastrous relationships with boys at my schools, I've come to a decision that it's better not to bother getting attached to people - after all, it will only fall apart one way or the other, whether it's because I move away or because I misinterpret the relationship. So I am now attending school in Egypt to escape from the people of my 'old life'. So far, I haven't made any deep relationships, though I am friendly with my professors.
I have a crush on nobody at present, but I have a tendency to fall for close male friends. Yes, this has caused problems in the past, and more than a few.

There is no point in working if you are not going to try in the first place.
My Name Is Seth
I Am 19 Years Old
I Am a Male and I Work As a Magician
And I'm Straight
People Say I'm Rather Cold. I don’t like to talk very much. I only really ever talk to my apprentice, Femi. My old teacher told me that I was a quick learner and was good at paying attention to the details in my work.

What he refuses to admit though is that he was never one to want a lot of attention. He is also a perfectionist and gets mad when something goes wrong. He is very stubborn, headstrong and “prefers” it if thing go his way. Femi says "He's just a little moody, but he's kinda nice...”.
I Carry On My Person ink, a needle, a really long cloak, and a dagger.
I've Been Through not knowing my parents, and living on the streets doing odd jobs to obtain the money to keep myself alive. I started off by begging but that didn’t fare well. So, I picked up a few trick from the court magicians and street performers. It was mostly that I learned slight of hand to steal food from people. One day I thought I was caught by one of the people I was trying to con. It turns out that the person was a magician and found my techniques interesting and decided to take me on as an apprentice. I quickly learned all he could teach and moved on to practice on my own. Though, when I work I have to keep myself covered. People don’t really offer money to some one who looks like me.

Seth was given his name due to the fact that he resembled the former God of Storms. He was often persecuted for this fact and treated as an outcast. In fact, the whole reason he never knew his parents was because they abandoned him due to his appearance. He was raise in the Temple of Seth ever since he was an infant, he was considered to be the human incarnate of the god himself. When he was about seven he ran away from the temple. You would too if you were constantly being hovered over being smothered by constant attention when you just wanted to be left alone.

I won't mess up this time, I swear!
My Name Is Femi Kahotep
I Am 18 Years Old
I Am A Female and I'm magician in training under Seth.
And I'm straight.
People Say I'm shy and sweet, and I suppose that's all that really applies to me. I'm really shy, and it takes awhile for me to really open up and talk, but I'm a really good person. I care a lot about everyone around me, and I want nothing more than to make everyone happy. I can be kind of hyper if I'm in a good mood, but...

Femi is prone to random bouts of depression. She's really sensitive to what others say and she has a lot of self-doubts which just makes this worse. She tries hard to hide when she feels bad about such things, but for the most part she's an easily read open book.
If anyone tries to hurt my friends, I'm not afraid of defending myself.
I Carry On My Person a small dagger for protection, a small leather bag with ink and paparyus and several rolled scrolls worth of spells Seth's taught me.
I've Been Through a realitivly easy life considering what most people have gone through. I still have my father, and a home, siblings who take care of me, and I even have Seth now. Sure, sometimes I wish my life were a little better, but I'm content in just being a magician one day.

The truth is is that Femi lost her mother at a young age, and her family is currently going through very hard times. From the time she was little her family had to struggle to get where they are now, and part of Femi's nearly constant depression comes from the fact that she believes her life will always be just like this: endless working until she can't work any more.
I want desperately to be a good magician and impress Seth by showing him he's a good teacher, and I want to be able to learn everything that I can. I have a large thirst for knowledge, and being his apprentice is really helping me learn things. One day I hope to be as good as he is.

Where is the fun in leaving things simple and clean?
My Name Is Karah
I Am 16 Years Old
I Am A Female and I Work As An Assassin
And I'm Straight
People Say a lot of things about me depending on who it’s coming from. I tend to like to skulk around dark spaces of the town. People look at me lurking around in the alleys and look at me with the most freaked out look, like they had just seen a ghost. The people of my tribe said I was the most joyful little thing they ever saw. I always have a smile on my face and I enjoy helping where I can. I get mad rather easily, but I am trying to control that even though my efforts have been no good.

Karah is actually a conscious-less monster. She has to be in order to carry out her given task and do it well. She enjoys dragging out her executions rather then having them be simple and inconspicuous as her father and teacher told her was best to keep from getting caught and drawing unnecessary attention to the fact that the person was murdered. Moving on to her anger issues, she once made an unnecessary kill during one of her contracts due to getting frustrated. She is also very impatient and prefers it when things go smoothly and her way.
I Carry On My Person several daggers, scimitar, and two katars under my clothes and a cloak.
I've was born into nomads for another land that lies far east of Thebes, which explains the color of my skin. The nomadic tribe that I grew up in is a group of traveling assassins. We traveled from place to place accepting odd contracts from the people who live in the area. I was my parents little prodigy. I completed my first assignment with complete ease. The only thing that disappointed them was my little problem with anger and my wish for instant self gratification as they said. I fell in love with Thebes though and decided I wouldn’t mind living there and accepting job and contracts from the locals. I live outside the city though, just to stay out of eyes sight of the town’s people.

I am death…
My Name Is Anubis
I Appear To Be 19 Years Old
I Am A Male and I Work As a guard at the embalmers.
And I'm Heterosexual
People Say I'm a relatively distant person. They seem to believe that I do not share many human qualities, such as defining emotions or a need to be around other people. I must admit that I feel out-of-touch with most of humanity. Their peculiar behavior puzzles me at times. Many find my closeness with the dead is rather eerie, but I see no real problem. Death is merely one of many steps one takes in life.
Anubis is just as cold and distant in his true form and perhaps even more so. His attempts to pretend to be a human are good enough to let him pass as one of them. He greatly enjoys death and takes his position very seriously.
I Carry On My Person simple clothes. I carry an ankh staff in my true form, but two swords while in my human disguise.
Anubis does not truly require any sort of materials in either form. The only purpose his clothes and swords serve is to make him appear more like a human.
I've Been Through quite a lot. I cannot explain everything in such a short amount of time, but I can say that I have seen many people die and have fought many battles.
Anubis has been around for thousands of years. He is the god of death, the one who sends the dead to the Underworld so they may be judged by Osiris. It was once thought that his mother was Isis. However, two gods of the desert could not give birth and Nephtys, the wife of Set, disguised herself as Isis so that Osiris may aid her in bearing a child. Anubis was born from their labor and Set slew Osiris in his anger, ripping his body into fourteen pieces. Because of this, Anubis is not very keen on Set.

I am praised for the many achievements that are done; but also they say I am a brave leader, as I have led our troops in battle many times.

He however, lives within the shadow of his father's presence. His accomplishments become his fathers and this has become something that irritates him to no end. He does do what his father commands for now, and can become alittle to eager.
I Carry On My Person Two Golden plated scimitars, sheathed at both sides. Though he has access to many types living in the palace.
I've Been Through many events in my life , political and military related. Having been raised with the finest ancient teachings, I learned that the only true power came from the throne. Also I have participated in many battles, leading my father's armys against his enemys, gaining a respect with the people and it has been set in stone with the people I am infact the son of their god.
Having set my eyes on my fathers throne he has begun to scheme ways of obtaining it. He has desire and drive to take over his fathers chair, yet hangs back as his father is extremly clever, and extremly witful when it comes to deception.

I Am A [Female] and I Work As [A Shopkeeper] And I'm [Heterosexual]
People Say I'm [A Catch. I Am One Of The Most Sought After To Be Wed. My Father Is Willing To Hand Me Over To The Highest Payer, But I Do Not Find Myself Attracted To Any Of Them. I, At Least, Want To Find Someone I Get Along With, Not Some Swine That Believes I Am His Gift From The Gods. I Am Also A Realist, If That Isn’t Evident. I Understand That Our Pharaoh Will Not Last Much Longer, Though Why I Am Not So Sure.
What Isis fails to mentions is that she receives visions from the god Anubis, at least, that is who she believes they come from. Also, she knows exactly why every man is interested in her. She happens to be of a long line of strong birthing women. So much so, that the women average seventeen children. This, as we all know, would be ideal for a man looking to ‘expand’ his wealth.

Okay, time for me to but in again. Isis is a truly remarkable girl. She can cook, clean, all that jazz. But, what she fails to mention, is that she has an incredible mind. Also, her personality is fiery and aggressive, not this shy little whelp she is trying to tell you she is. That is just a façade that she uses so she doesn’t lose her worth.
I Am Not Sure What Else To Say. I Believe In The Gods, Though All Of Us Do. However, I Think I Take It To A Bit More Of An Extreme. I Believe They Can Walk Among Us, Not Unseen, But They Look Like Normal People. I Guess It Is My Desire To Be Connected To Them.
What she is trying to say is that she wants to be so much more than your average person. She knows she can, with her visions and all, but those are Anubis’ gift to her. She doesn’t want to share it, though whether the reason is selfish or fear it cannot be said.]

Story Thus Far

Day One

Past

The day started normal for Femi Kahotep and her master in magic, the outcast Seth. They started their days as they always did, Seth by working on a spell he'd seen in his dreams and Femi by getting ready to go apprentice under him for the day after defending him, yet again, from her third oldest brother Ottah.

After the two of them met up they headed out to the desert to test out Seth's new spell, with much blushing along the way from the infatuated Femi. The spell didn't work the three times Seth used it, so he handed it off to his ever eager to please but often destructive apprentice. Once more it didn't work, and in Femi's frustration at failing him she accidently lit the scroll on fire. It seems as if this unlocked some strange higher spell, because in that instant a combination sandstorm thunder storm errupted, and Seth and Femi fled the area.

Modern

The day had started relatively normal in the future as well for our four heros; Nadira was having a bad day, Hala was leaving for work, Aleks was adjusting to the new country, and Jack was getting ready for his day. Suddenly and without warning the world appeared to drop out from under them, and suddenly they were in the center of the sandstorm.

Past

Thanks to Seth the sandstorm was over quickly, and after several minutes of begging for forgivness by Femi he admitted that he wasn't mad at her but at himself; after this they left his hut and went out into Thebes, with much blushing from Femi, and then things started to go even more wrong. Seth was out of money, so the two of them had to put on a magic show for money, but it was interruputed by the arrival of Femi's youngest brother, Umi, and so she dragged Seth away to avoid a confrontation from her family who doesn't approve. After a little harmless flirting between the two of them involving fruit, they sat down ready to eat, only to have Femi dragged away by three of her brothers; Nuru, Adjo, and Umi.

Meanwhile Aleks, Hala, Jack, and Nadira were trying to overcome the slight language barrier between them and figure out just where they were and how they had gotten there. Nadira quickly showed her irritation at everything and somehow established herself in Aleks mind as the more leaderly of the group, while Nadira herself made assumptions about everyone else, mostly that Aleks was the smartest, Jack's a cocky b*****d, and Hala needs special attention.

After agreeing to head towards the city in the distance the four set off after Jack almost left them all behind, only to run into a strange looking girl with big red eyes. Turns out that 16 year old assassain Karah had set off on her own earlier and attracted by the odd sounds had come to investigate, thus far she has pretended to be innocent and cute, but the language barrier between the five of them has forced Aleks to pull out his latin skills; turns out Mr.College-Braniac is a language specialist, which will probably gain him a high rank in the group.

The group didn't get too far with their new little companion before a prince of Thebes arrived with his entire army in tow and surrounded them at spear point. Hala and Nadira figured out at this moment where they were, though Hala was in fierce denial and Nadira went into shock. With Karah's quick thinking, she managed to get the prince to pull back his army, and now the group is on their way to Thebes at last.

And not a moment too soon, either; Anubis, the god himself, is on his way to investigate the area beacause of the strange storm.

Ask The Goddess

User Image

A frequently asked questions section.

Did Ancient Egyptians have slaves?

Ugh, I hate this question, but it needs to be answered. No, no the Ancient Egyptians did not have slaves. Now, before anyone goes all "but the Bible/Qu'ran/Torah says so" allow me to explain. Those books are NOT historical fact no matter how much you want to believe that, and one of the books attempting to claim this as fact also claims that men from Ethiopia have black semen; now, I've never been with an Ethiopian man before, but I'm quite sure that they have the same color semen as every other man in the world does, unless they are seriously deseased, and then I wouldn't be sleeping with him!

Egyptians simply didn't have slaves, now, you can try to say they did by the fact that every other society back then had slaves, but that wouldn't be true. Not ever society had slaves, and the Egyptians were among them. Why have slaves when the people were more than willing to work for their Pharaoh if it granted them automatic entry into the afterlife?

Now, there were people reffered to as slaves, but that's not to say they were slaves. Priests and priestesses were commonly called slaves to the gods, but does that make them slaves? A person could seek the protection of a temple and could pay to become that temples slave, which if you ask me isn't exactly a slave. Since when have you heard of people paying to be slaves? You could be tied to a house and be traded like property and even be inherited, but you were paid and treated well.

That isn't to say there weren't cases of servents being beaten for doing a bad job, but that came with the job; do it right or suffer the consequences. In the case of nobles, rich men, and the Pharaoh himself/herself some of their servernts would be mummified along with them to go into the afterlife, but that was considered an honored position and not many passed up the chance to serve their Pharaoh or master for eternity.

How were women treated in Ancient Egypt?

Better than they are now! OK, I'm joking, but only slightly. The truth is is that the Egyptians treated women much better in Egypt than in most civilizations back then. Women could manage, own, and sell private property, which included land, portable goods, servants, livestock, and money. Women could resolve legal settlements. Women could appear as a contracting partner in a marriage contract or a divorce contract and they could adopt. They could execute testaments and they could free servants bound to the land. Eyptian women could even sue, as entitled to them by the law.

This kind of freedom was strange back then, Greek women for example couldn't go anywhere unless accompanied by a man, their husband, father, or brother, and they couldn't do anything legan unless they were with this same man, known as their kourios.

An Egyptian woman could also acquire possessions, and she could do so in many ways. She could receive them as gifts or as an inheritance from her parents or husband, or she could buy them with money or other goods which she earned either through employment or which she borrowed. A woman had claims to up to one-third of all the community property in her marriage, for example; the property which accrued to her husband and her after they were married. When a woman brought her own private property to a marriage, the dowry, it remained hers, even though the husband often had the free use of it. In the event of a divorce her property had to be returned to her, in addition to any divorce settlement that might be stipulated in the original marriage contract.

On the death of a husband the woman inherited two-thirds of their community property, but the other one-third was divided among their children, followed up by the brothers and sisters of the deceased. To circumvent this possibility and to enable his wife to receive either a larger part of the share, or to allow her to dispose of all the property, a husband could draw up a kind of will that bequeathed to her the property, or he could even adopt her as his own child so that she could aquire more property.

As for marriage, there was nothing special done and Egyptian women could get married at any age at all, though it was commonly done after they hit their periods. They were recognized as being married when they physically left their parents domain and moved into the domain of their husband. They maintained all independant freedom and their husbands never became their gaurdians. A woman could divorce at anytime in the marriage and could also remarry.

Children were however very important to both men and women, and the Ancient Egyptians weren't at all modest when it came to sex. A man would boast about how many children he had, and a woman considered herself above her friends if she had more children than they. If a woman was sterile the husband could use this as a reason to divorce her, but it was so frowned upon that not many went through with it; after all, there were plenty of orphaned children to adopt.

Women named their children immediately after birth, normally the first word that left their mouth on the childs entry into the word. This was to prevent the child from entering the afterlife nameless in case of miscarriage or a short life.

What do you considere a good post?

Ooh! Fun question! OK, it doesn't have to be super long, but it must have complete sentences and it must flow seamlessly together. You must be getting something accomplished in the post, weither it is talking to someone or it is giving information or leading someone else along so they know what to do next. I do want it to be descriptive though, not just dialogue, and I want it as grammatically correct as you can make it. I'm not asking for perfection, simply your best.

I want capitilization and correct puctuation. I don't mind if you mess up every so often, but I'd like it to look like you know how to use a keyboard. A good post gives you an image in your mind about what's going on around the character and how they look and sound when they're talking or when they're doing something.

Here's a list to follow if you want to see if your post is a good one:

Did you create a post that brings to mind what the setting looks like?

Did you create a post that gives a clear image of the expression on your characters face?

Was your post clear and unconfusing?

Was your post the best you could do?

Could you make it better if you added to it?

If you read over your post, does it respond correctly to others posts?

Does it get across the point you were trying to make?

The best thing you can do to make sure your post is good is to look at the posts of those around you, if your post seems to be lacking in description and says something along the lines of: "The dog sat down." Then you know it's bad, try your best to describe everything around you, but don't go overboard. We want: "The furry brown puppy sat down infront if it's master and wagged it's tail." Not: "A puppy of about 45lbs with long chestnut colored fur and black eyes that sparkled brightly in the sun despite the fact it was overcast that Thursday afternoon at about 3: 45 pm in July on the fourth week on the contininent of Australia in the city of Sydney slowly sank down onto the dry dirt that hadn't seen rain for about two months due to a drought that had left half the region on strict restrictions and had dried up all nearby local rivers, streams, and small ponds and had killed off many lawns and plants and looked up at the short five year old with large bright blue eyes that she had gotten from her father who worked in the military and was currently in Japan right now on a military base and had blonde hair that she got from her grandmother who was a seamstress in World War II when Hitler lead the Nazi's across most of Europe in an attempt to take of the world and eradicate anyone who wasn't exactly like his image of the what the world should be, which happened to be a race of blue eyed blonde people just like the little girl, and thumped his short chestnut tail hard against the dirt sending up a cloud of dust."

That. Was. Hard. To. Write!

Anyway, I understand if posts get shorter and shorter when more people are online or more people are talking to each other at once, but when you're alone I expect your best!

Did the Ancient Egyptians commit incest?

Oh hell yes! >o< They had no qualms about anything! Sexuality was part of their cycle of life, death, and rebirth, so it was out in the open where everyone could see it! They did after all walk around half naked all the time and brag about how potent they were. The men wore triangular stiff folds of fabric on the front of their hips to emphasize that area and draw attention to it, and most women walked around with their breasts hanging out.

Hell, their prostitutes were sacred and either walked around in fishnet or completely naked, had tattoos, were well respected in the community, and weren't paid to sleep with you. Prostitution was actually a coming of age ceramony for most girls, you were a prostitute for a few months and if you came home preganant you were praised and held above everyone else, if you didn't... you were considered infertile, but I digress...

If it had to do with sexuality, the Egyptians had no problem with it. Masturbation, homosexuality, incest... it was all good with them. The gods themselves often commited all of the acts, and they were put in myth for all to see. Isis even dabbled in a little bit of necrophilia if you look closely enough...

The common people of Egypt didn't commit incest that often, but it wasn't unheard of. The royal family, however, was practically required to commit incest. To become Pharaoh you had to marry a royal princess, and who was a royal princess? Either your sister or your half-sister most likely; I suppose sometimes you could get lucky and just marry someone who was was the daughter of someone in the Pharoh's harem who had been brought in from outside, but with all of the women in the harem and with all of the children, who kept count of who was and wasn't related?

There is however much confusion as to who commited incest and how often it actually happened. The Egyptians used the terms "brother" and "sister" as terms of endearment, so your "brother" could be an uncle, a cousin, an actual brother, your best friend, or your lover, and your "sister" could be an aunt, cousin, your sister, your best friend, or your lover. It's a very confusing buisiness...

The point is is that yes, incest happened, but also remember that it might not be the case just because someone is calling their husband or wife their brother or sister.

The sounds of the street drifted through the window of the small hut in which Seth was currently staying. The air was hot and stifling, but he had long since learned to ignore the heat. The hut was basically empty except for the cot that was in the corner the small table which Seth was almost constantly working at and a few odd items that were laying about.

He looked up from the papyrus he was taking notes on, trying to recall the phrases that had appeared in his dreams. Something distracted him though. His stomach growled angrily at him. 'When was the last time I at?' he thought to himself. Rolling up the parchment he stood up and walked over to where his cloak was laying next to his cot.

Seth wrapped the cloak around himself and pulled the hood up. The long cloak's hood hung down over his red hair and obscured his golden eyes from view. Seth grabbed the small sack that had his notes and some other things he kept on his person and walked out of the hut.

Small children were playing and chasing each other around in the streets in the streets. They stopped stared at him with curious eyes as he walked by. They didn't stare long though because their mother pulled them inside. He sighed and looked forward hearing some of what the mother was saying. Something about 'Never go near that person'.

Seth only had a little money left from the last time he resorted to preforming his magic in the streets. He didn't like to consider doing that though. He found a small kiosk and bought a few food items that he would have to ration until he was willing to degrade himself again. He found a small area that wasn't very crowded, sat against the wall, and ate a small portion of the food and watched the people mill around the marketplace.

The morning light filtered softly through the thin worn out curtians draped across the high open square in the wall that served as a window, landing in Femi's eyes and waking her up rather appruptly from a strange dream where she had been talking to Seth, but he hadn't acted or sounded like Seth. With a yawn she stretched out across the pillows that served as her bed and glanced up at the window. "Mmm... That wasn't Master Seth, that was the god of destruction..." She mused out loud as her concious brain met her subconcious brain and informed it of what it already knew but hadn't yet realized.

With a frown on her light brown face she shifted and stood, letting the heavy blankets fall away. "How strange... what would a god have to say to me?" Femi mused aloud, eyebrows furrowing over her strange purple eyes. "You had a dream about a god?" A male voice asked, causing her to jump slightly and look around. Her eyes landed on one of her older brothers and she visably relaxed. "Oh, Ottah, it's only you..." She sighed in relief, standing up from her bed and moving across the room to dig in the small trunk for her clothes. "Yes, brother. I had a dream I was speaking to the god of destruction... he looked an awful lot like Master Seth, but he was very different, too..." She explained, brown eyebrows furrowed in thought as she pulled aside the pieces of white linen.

Leaning against the doorway to her room, the curtain lifted with one hand, the youngest of her three older brothers watched with a bored expression as his sister went through her small trunk. "That's a bit strange, you and an evil god talking... It's a bad omen, you'd better bathe with extra oils today," Ottah suggested, looking at her strangely as if she would do something amazing and disgusting like sprout an extra arm from her chest at any moment. "Perhaps being with that Master Seth of yours is going to incur the wrath of the gods upon us." He said in a tone of voice that suggested he was merely thinking aloud.

Femi grapped up her two armlets and tucked them into the pile of cloth tucked under her arm and slipped out of the linen sheathe she'd worn to bed, keeping it under an opposite arm. "My brother, I'm the one who often brings down the wrath of the gods merely by walking, not him." She snapped at him, brushing past him and tossing the dress onto a small pile of clothing that needed to be washed later. "It was only a suggestion, my sister!" He called after her, laughing slightly at how angry she sounded.

All through the morning ritual of bathing and annointing herself with scented oil like every morning Femi said her prayers to the gods, slowly wiping the memory of the strange dream from her mind. After she finished and the water washed away and into the small irrugation system that would take it out into the family garden, Femi dressed and lined her eyes with makeup to help keep out the sun, then moved to the family shrine to offer part of her breakfast to the gods, which she then ate.

Finished at home Femi gathered up her bag of things and slipped it over her head. "I'm going off with Master Seth today!" She called into the house so her father and three older brothers would hear if they were still inside, and then she stepped out into the morning light. In the already warm morning her hair dried quickly as she made her way down the street, smiling to herself; the dream was far gone and all that remained of it was a vauge feeling of somehow appreciating her master more.

Seth finished off the rest of his food and stood up, tired of being treated like a leper, and patted the dust off of his cloak and walked around the marketplace, watching some of the street performers. In his mind he was constantly going over how the spell was going to work, all the possible outcomes and the possible success rate. People were laughing and cheering performers. Seth turned and walked away from the masses. "Pitiful" he muttered to himself.
