Most of us within the fandom refer to the series and the characters as Kamen Rider.
However, when I was actually in Tokyo, each and every piece of Kamen Rider merchandise said "Masked Rider" on it.
I even bought Masked Rider potato chips.

So, which is it?

They use both I guess. I typically only use the term masked rider for the horrid saban series, but it seems that they use both masked and kamen interchangeably. I prefer saying Kamen (not Common xd ) to Masked myself.

i perfer kamen.... the japanese aren't good with english words sometimes, and it gets garbled up into "engrish".... you even heard the english version opening to kuuga? i'd rather hear kamen than " MASS-SKED rider" talk2hand

Kamen Rider of course instead masked rider. "Masked Rider" maybe the right one. But in fact "kamen rider" is more familiar in the tokusatsu communities.

That's how it sounds to me. I guess it's more like "Kah-men" than "Kah-mon" but that's pretty similar really. Especially with my Southern Indiana accent.

That's how it sounds to me. I guess it's more like "Kah-men" than "Kah-mon" but that's pretty similar really. Especially with my Southern Indiana accent.

i pronounce it how it is in japanese, kah-men, but not in that japanese accent cuz i'll just sound like a weeaboo.

although i laugh when i hear everyone in Dragon Knight shouting "COMMON RIDER"

I prefer Kamen to masked. Just seems to give it something more then masked could.
