"D***!" The curse echoed against the trees of the forest surrounding her and Masquerade shook her small head trying to dull the stinging in her head. The young kalona hadn't been paying enough attention and her extra horn, a wicked curved back thing half stained by blood, had gotten tangled in some tree limbs and yanked it rather hard when she had tried to walk on.
Masquerade was small and dainty for a kalona, more like an Arabian in build. Her appearance didn't make her look tough, but she could have cared less though. She wasn't a fighter, well at least not equally ranked fights, instead Masquerade played her little mind games that she had played as a foal only now they had a more adult seductive theme rather than pretending to be a friend. The poor lesser never knew what was coming until it was to late for them, and of course dead men told no tales.
When the stinging had nearly stopped the brown and blue kalona mare moved once more.
She weaved in and out of the shadows, even though she didn't blend in at all with them, hooves barely makeing a sound as the moved gracefully over the dead leaf litter and fallen twigs. Her eyes stood out perfectly against the shadows through, the pupil-less glowing orbs seeming to have no bottom to their depth nor did they reveal what she was feeling or thinking.
She hoped to meet another, preferably another kalona but a lesser would do. Even though she wasn't hungry she could still play with them for awhile.
Since she didn't expect to meet another, Masquerade let herself do something she never did when others were around ... she started to sing, though it was soft and to herself for the most part. She had a beautiful voice, but didn't expect that many kalona would find singing something that a proud kalona would do, but she loved to sing so allowed herself to when she was alone and bored.
