The golden lioness was laying on a large slab of rock, face toward the sky with her eyes shut and her breathing rhythmic. Her tail tip twitched up and down in a timely manner, her whole poise seemingly relaxed and almost as if she was napping. After a few moments though she shifted her body and her bright blue eyes opened, brushing over the area in front of her. "Mahoka?" She said, her tone did not carry worry or her usually reprimanding voice she often used with her boys. It was plain, almost a little gentle. It was a sure sign that Vikali was in a very good mood, good enough to have brought one of her boys on a little one on one time. It was very rare that this sort of outing happened, usually she only brought her daughter out on one-on-one trips,

She began to rise to her paws and stretched her fit frame, slinking off of the stone as she grinned slowly, her eyelids lazily drooping as she stalked through the grass, thinking perhaps Maho was playing a game of hide and seek. "Oh, you won't come when mommy calls? That means big trouble, Maho." He called out, letting her tone feign seriousness. Her ears twitched as she took a deep breath of air, trying to get a scent of him. She slipped through the grass almost silently, glancing left and then right.

Just ahead was a small tree that looked almost as if it was growing from a much larger tree's stump remains. She stopped and watched for a moment, thinking the stump was big enough for a cub her son's age to hide in, if it was hallow inside. She smirked and started to stalk toward it.

It wasn't that he wasn't greatful that his mother had chosen him to go out for a little one-on-one time, or that he was neglecting this little bit of alone time that he rarely got with her. No, it was simply that, at the moment, Mahokha had much bigger problems than a mother that might actually get a little angry if he didn't come exactly when she called him. At least, bigger in the figurative sense. This problem happened to be small and scaly, with a rattle that was almost as menacing as it's little beady eyes.

He had been planning to play a game of hide-and-seek with his beloved mother, for though she spent little time with him, he was a good natured boy. He was a little air-headed and narcissistic at times, which was likely only to get worse as time grew on, but he was still warm-hearted and loving towards his family. His mother never wished anything ill on him. As he had tromped through the grasses, looking for a good place to hide, he had spotted the tree trunk that his mother had recently thought he would be in herself. It seemed like a perfect place to curl up in until she came looking for him, which she undoubtedly would, of course! He had no doubt that their game would go over well today, for his mother was in a delightful mood, and that always boded well for him when he wanted to be a little playful with her.

When he broke free of the grasses, into the very small ring of dirt that surrounded the tree, he had dropped down onto his haunches and edged towards the tree trunk. What he hadn't planned on seeing was the snake - coiled within the bark and staring straight at his warm-blood face. It had caught his eyes, and now he lay poised there, too afraid to call out for help, too afraid to move lest it strike him. He barely even breathed, afraid that the rising and falling of his chest would provoke the scaly beast into snapping at him. He knew they were dangerous, especially to a cub so small as himself. So he let his ears fall back against his head, inching backwards slowly. As soon as he heard that rattle starting, a clear warning from the snake's own tail-tip, his heart jumped into his chest. Silently, he pleaded that his mother would hurry up and come to find him.

The large male lion had still been in the Pridelands, mainly just to piss of the golden lioness he had met a few days prior. Though, to his disappointment, the male hadn't seen the female since the little scuffle both of them had gotten into with eachother. It could be considered a good thing, Ukir had thought to himself, seeing as then he wouldn't get anymore scars on his face. The pink lines just did not suit his dark red body.

Brown eyes gazed around the area, looking for any other around. He saw a mass slink in the distant, almost rolling his eyes. He thought too soon. There was the same female, right in front of him. A small smirk crossed his maw. Should he be an a** right now? It wasn't his personality to do so, but the lioness just made him think differently of himself. The male had followed after the female quietly, occasionally the rustling of the grass causing him to slow down before the female became suspicious of him following her.

His ears perked forward, the sound of rattling catching his ears. He heard that sound before, but what was it that made it. He stalked the female still silently, perhaps she knew what it was.

Luckily for Ukir Vi was much to occupied with finding her son. Sometimes she felt very worried, though usually it never showed on her face. Still, she had become a mother young and the lack of confidence and experience was still carried with her. At least she was trying to be a bit nicer to her three boys instead of just ignoring them for the most part, like how she used to when they were newly born.

She was creeping forward and suddenly froze, her ears twitching as she finally picked up on the sound of the rattle snake. What was worse was she saw Mahokha statue-still in his spot, staring at the threatened beast. Her heart hurt, seeing such a thing, and immediately her brain wanted to flee into that of panic. Her tail flicked and she took a deep breath. "Mahoka, I want you to start backing up very slowly." She called out very softly, so she would not disturb or surprise the snake.

She began to creep forward, the worry she usually had such a good grip on had easily spilled into her facial features, and she even looked frightened. She may not have been the greatest mother, but her cubs had really become her only friends it seemed. Koy was often busy and didn't have time, her sisters were... well, doing whatever they needed to do. Her parents? She wasn't sure. In any case, she could not have her boy dying by the fangs of some stupid snake! What a weak and pathetic way to die... and so young, too!

Her heart was thudding in her chest so loudly she thought that anyone else around might be able to hear it, but it only filled her own ears. She was close enough now to spring forward, but she was worried she might miss or something and then get bit... no, she had to take the chance. She crouched her body low to the ground before lurching forward, paw out as she landed roughly, claws dug into the dirt and a lump under her paw. She'd gotten it! The thing was going mad though, it obviously did not like being trapped.

He heard the rustling coming nearer and nearer, though Mahokha was too afraid to turn his head to look. He knew it could be none other than his mother, this close at least and from that direction especially, and when her voice came out quietly and in warning, he almost breathed out a sigh of relief before he caught himself. Yes, she was here, but his eyes had never averted from that terrifying little menace. As she had instructed, he silently began to inch backwards, clearing space between he and the snake, hoping with each step that he took that the little monster would just stay where it was. The sound of the rattling was loud in his ears and he was sure he would never, ever forget it.

Just as he was sure he was far enough that he could turn and run without being caught, a blinding flash of yellow leaped between him and the snake. Before he could comprehend what had happened, his mind focused to show him that his mother had jumped and pinned the snake. Relief flooded through him for a moment before he realized that the snake was still wiggling, angrily, in his mother's grasp. What if it bit her? "Momma," he cried out, green eyes full of sudden panic, "be careful!"

Continuing to stalk the golden female, the male stopped, eyes watching the lioness. He spotted just beyond her a youngster, and when his little voice spoke 'Momma' he blinked. So, this was one of the children Vi was so fearful for. Of course, Ukir doesn't cause to much danger for another, but it looks like this one had gotten himself into quite a problem, without the help of the crimson rogue.

There was that rattling again. Brown eyes followed it downward, noticing a snake. His upper lip rose and a snarl, crouching to go after it, but when Vi launched for it, his eyes widened in shock.

"YOU IDIOT!" He roared, still not moving from his spot. "Don't keep that thing under you paw! Toss is away," or kill it, he added mentally. Ukir wasn't one for death of another, but if it involved killing something that was potential harmful to another (let alone a child), he accepted it in terms.

"Hurry," he growled, eyes narrowing at her paw that constrained the scaley snake, "before you get poisoned." Cause I sure as hell don't want to be the one to drag your a** to some healer in the pride.

Once the snake was under her paw she wasn't really that sure what to do any longer. It's head was firmly between the earth and her paw... but the way it's tail lashed and smacked into her body she was sure to have some small bruises. If she let it up it meant the threat of being bitten. If she tried to bit into the snake that meant the danger of having it slip out from under her paw while she was distracted... and then the threat of being bitten!

Her thoughts were scrambled by the sudden shout of another, and she almost jumped away from the snake. But it was best to kill it now that it was so pissed! What the hell was he doing here, anyhow! Her eyes were wide as she met his, and then narrowed. "What the hell do you think I'm doing!" She snarled, before glancing over to her son. "Maho, go back to the den. Now. Make sure your siblings are okay." Mostly she wanted him away from the danger.. the danger that was both the snake and the male.

Once her son was turned away and toddling off she looked back to her paw, took a deep breath and lifted her paw as she was darting down. Her jaws snapped up the snake and she bit down hard. She didn't much like the taste of the creepy animals though. After a few shakes of her head she flung it in the opposite direction of her son, then glared at Ukir. "What were you thinking! Shouting at me in that sort of situation! You could have made me jump so badly!" She snarled. She felt angry and scared, nervous... and a little confused. Had that been actual concern in the red male's voice?

“What was I thinking?! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!” Ukir shouted just as the young male lion had toddled off. “Did you want to get bitten? Did you want to test fate and see if that snake was poisonous? Cause I sure as hell didn’t.” Here Ukir was, going off on a tangent at Vi. “Though, maybe if the snake had bitten you, you might’ve learned your lesson. Here’s a thought, next time, I’ll keep my mouth shut, and then we will see what happens. Sound like a plan? Sounds perfect to me.” Ukir continued to rant, quite angry for really the stupidest reason at Vikali.

“….Are you okay?” He asked after a moment, letting his anger cool down. At least she wasn’t harmed…that was a plus side…right? Wait…why was he even caring how the other was? Ugh, male hormones beginning to work their magic now. Ukir wanted to shoot himself for the caring act. Though, maybe it wasn’t an act… Who knew, the red lion didn’t want to dwell on it.

Who... who the hell did he think he was to be shouting at her like that? He was damn lucky she'd sent her boy away! She'd be so embarrassed if Maho had just witnessed something so... so rediculous happening to her! "But I DIDN'T get bitten, did I!" She snapped back angrily, wondering what the hell his problem was! Her Maho was in trouble! Her beautiful little Maho! He would never understand the bond she shared with her children, their lives we definitely more precious than her own!

He seemed to run out of steam soon enough though, and finally asked her if she was okay. Wait- what? It threw her off and her glare flickered into that confused expression for a moment before she stalked toward him. "I'm FINE no thanks to you!" She spat the words out, queally venemous but then let out a deep sigh, her whole body seeming to slump. "It's just good that Mahoka is alright.." She mumbled, more to herself than to him. "I don't know... what I would have done if the snake had bit him." She glanced up, remembering Ukir was there. He better not say anything stupid!

She cleared her throat. "Well... why... are you here?" She asked, to change the subject and because she was suspicious.

“Dumb luck you didn’t.” He scoffed, wanting to turn away from the female, and forget it. He didn’t though, he just continued to fuel the fire.

“No thanks to me?! You are kidding me, right? You should be thanking me if anything!” Though, he didn’t really deserve any thanks. He really /hadn’t/ done anything.

…”I assume Mahoka is that child?” He confirmed. “If he had gotten bitten, I’m sure a healer or something in the pride would know the antidote for a snake bite or something. A lot of lions get bitten by snakes, he’d be fine…” He tried to make the situation a little better, but it probably wasn’t helping.

Oh, now she was being nice? He shrugged. “No reason.” It was blunt. “Just…heading for a stroll.”

Gods above, he pissed her off! Sure it had been mostly luck that she hadn't been bit, but so what? Sometimes a little bit of luck was just what a lion needed! She just glared at him, refusing to respond. He definitely did not need thanks from her! He could thank himself!

She wished she hadn't said Maho's name out loud, wished that Ukir hadn't even been around. "Yes, he is that child, but it'd probably do you better to forget it!" She growled out. appalled by his next words. "And what if it was the sort of poison that acts quickly! Maho is so small that..." Oh why the hell was she trying to explain this to him anyways? It was clear to her that he had no freaking clue about being a parent. "I guess it's hard to understand for someone who doesn't have cubs of their own."

Right. Why else would he be around here? It was silly to suspect any other sort of motives. "Well. Good, maybe you can take your stroll and head that way." She pointed with her paw, clearly indicating the borders. "As for me... well. That's none of your business." She grumbled, turning and stalking off in the same direction the cub had gone.

Vikali was…abnormally feisty today. When the female began to stroll off, Ukir didn’t follow. He had done his ‘stalking’ her for the day, and right now, he would settle for just lounging around in the sun, soaking up the rays, and enjoying the peace and quiet he could only get when the golden lioness wasn’t around. The red lion rolled his eyes as the female made one last comment, before padding off himself. A nice cat nap was in order right now.
