He had been so happy, so very happy to see his best friend again. When they had first met up again he thought it was an illusion, something created by his lack of sleep. When he learned that it wasn't he was thrilled, ecstatic! It went down hill from there. Everything seemed to crash around him.

"Stop! Stop saying those things about her!" He growled shoving the dual-colored male with his shoulder trying to stop him from spreading those lies. From saying those harsh cruel words. "I know things didn't work out between you two but that doesn't mean you need to speak about her like that!" He shouted moving back as he shook his head. He couldn't believe it.

Akira had always known that Kagami harbored feelings for his best friend, their former prince. He also had known that the day she admitted her feelings for him that she stopped speaking. What he hadn't known was that the rather sadistic ex-prince had not only cared about his sister but had loved her. When the male went to tell her she rejected him. But it was to be expected wasn't it?

Kagami had run off the minute she had grown into an adolescent. Akira hadn't followed, he understood her reasons even without words. He had always understood her and he thought he had always understood Suijin. However he was wrong so very very wrong.

The dual-colored male's brows came together in a scowl as his eyes narrowed darkly. "I can say what ever I like about that damned female." He growled in return moving forward the minute the blue male moved back shoving him with his shoulder. He thought that the other would have come to him, would have sided with him. He was wrong something he had rarely experienced. In fact it was only twice, once with that purple vixen and now with her brother. "I thought you would side with me on this matter Akira." He stated gruffly his lips pressed together in a frown.

Akira had sided with him the last time forsaking his sister for his best friend. Why was this time any different? Did the other male know something that he did not? Shaking his head he tried to force the thought from his mind. Of course he didn't, he hadn't seen Kagami since she had run off. "She told me she loved me." He muttered bitterly shaking his head in disgust. "When I told her I loved all she could say was 'I'm sorry.' " He told the other male beside him.

"Sorry doesn't cut it! She ripped my heart out the b***h." He shouted throwing his head back as snorted eyes fixed upon the lone cloud in the sky. "Does she have any idea how hard it was for me to admit that? Even when I knew I had hurt her? Does she?!" He asked jerking his head back down. He clenched his teeth together as he advanced on Akira. "Does she!" He shouted into the other males face.

He was so angry, so filled with rage it was a miracle he hadn't attacked.

"No! You can't!" He growled right back at the other male no longer willing to stand his verbal abuse of his sister, the person closest to him. "Goddamnit Suijin! What the hell makes you think you have the right to thrash my sister?" He asked a throaty growl rumbling out. "Tell me!" He demanded stepping forward to show that he couldn't be shoved around and that he wouldn't stand this crap he was being thrown.

"I bet that she damn well knew how hard it was for you to tell her. Do you think that it wasn't hard for her to reject you?" He asked with a dry laugh. He couldn't believe how the other was acting. The world didn't revolve around him! "She loved you, she probably still does but she moved on okay?" He snarled his breathing irregular and harsh. He was getting so damn frustrated! Why did he have to take this out on him? Why couldn't he just accept that she would no longer be his?

"Too much time has passed Suijin, she couldn't hold on to you forever." His tone fell from frustrated to a pleading tone. What could he do to calm the rage that was his best friend? "You need to move on like she did, you need to put her behind you." He tried to reason knowing that it would fail in the end. "If you loved her then why did you hurt her?" He questioned innocently.

Bad idea.

His eyes narrowed into a dark glare at the other's words. How dare he question him! "I'm your prince that's why!" He replied his tone as dark as his expression. Obviously he had forgotten that it had been years since the pride had fallen apart as a result of the plague that had claimed his grandparents lives before it's lingering strains had engulfed the lives of his parents. Nothing matter to the ex-prince except proving that he was right and that the other was wrong, if he failed to do that well...if Akira just couldn't be swayed Suijin would treat him the same as her. He'd be forever framed as a traitor in the sadistic lion's mind.

A snort came from his maw as he not only shook his head but rolled his eyes as well. Hard for her? Yeah right, she had said it so calmly without effort like the words didn't impact her at all. Not once did it sound like it pained her to say that word. To say sorry. "Like hell she did." He growled. He was almost content to leave it like that when Akira pushed him right over the edge.

"What did you say?" He asked advancing on the bright blue male. Had his best friend really asked him that question? How dare he. "You think it was easy for me to do that to her?" He asked his words growing harsher with each step he took until he was in the others' face. "Back then I had to watch my every step, I had to constantly be looking over my shoulder worried I was going to do something wrong." He started the scowl never leaving his features. "I thought she was lying trying to use me and...my mother didn't approve of her." He mumbled lowering his gaze just long enough to shake his head. "I felt like such a fool when she stopped speaking before running away." He muttered bitterly before shoving Akira back.

"Who are you to even ask that?" Suddenly he was angry all over again.

A dry laugh escaped Akira's maw as he shook his head in bitter disgust. He could not believe what the other male had said. Playing the prince card...oh how it made the brightly colored male laugh. It had been years since he had thought of Suijin as a prince. In fact it was shortly after he left the pride, chasing his purple colored sister, that he had stopped thinking of his old friend that way. For him to be bringing it up now well...it was ludicrous. "Don't make me laugh Suijin. It's been years since you've been a prince." He spat, literally, at the other. He watched as the other jerked back, startled, almost amused before he mentally slapped himself. He would not become a sadist like the other male. No way in hell.

When he heard his friends explanation as to why he had rejected his sister it simply made him snort. His explanation was complete and utter bullshit. He was going to point it out. "Bullshit." He stated with a snarl. "That's complete bullshit and you know it Suijin." He said his tone falling back to it's calm state. It became monotone. "'Oh no, mommy doesn't approve so I should just rip her heart out.' Give me a freaking break." He snorted shoving the other roughly in response to being shoved back. It was going to be a harsh, physical fight soon. He could feel it. "We were kids Suijin so what did it matter if your mother didn't like my sister? You could have just said NO."

He was getting worked up, much more so then he should and he knew it. Yet he did nothing to stop it. Maybe for once it was time that he showed the punk in front of him that he couldn't do whatever he wanted. He was big enough that was for sure.

The other's question just fueled the rage that was building up. "Who am I to ask? Are you freaking kidding me?" He cried clenching his teeth together as he moved forward. "I'm her brother! I'm the brother of the girl you hurt so bad she stopped speaking that's who!" He couldn't believe how stupid he was being.

The fury that was welling up in the male's heart was starting to overflow and spill out the sides. There was no way in hell that he was going to put up with this shitty attitude from his supposed best friend. "You will not speak to me like that Akira." He told him his voice strangely calm but so very dark at the same time. His features were blank, no emotion being displayed when only a moment before they had been twisted with anger. It had been a long time since he had been this angry and his old prince habits had settled in. The ones where he wore a mask to hide how he was really feeling. "Do not make me do something I will regret later." He warned all to serious even though his words had no effect on the larger male.

"What my mother thought of a person was incredibly important." He told the other stressing only one word. He would not let the other taunt him into attacking. No it would be the other that struck first, that way he would feel no remorse if the other died. None at all. "I handled the situation poorly, I know but that does not give you the right to treat me like crap." He stated still calm although he was now struggling to hold the mask together.

"It doesn't matter!" He growled his tone escalating despite himself as cracks began to form in his mask. "Who gives a damn that you're her brother?" He hissed getting right up in the others' face. He was in control of the situation and he'd be damned if he allowed the other to have anything over him. "It's still none of your business. What happened between your sister and myself is our business. Not yours!"

"I'll speak to you however I ******** want to dammit!" Akira growled no longer willing to even put up with the arrogance of the b*****d before him. "Do you really think I give a s**t if I'm pissing you off anymore Suijin, do you really?" He spat right into the other male's face laughing as he pulled back just the slightest bit. He was pushing the other incredibly far over the edge but at this point he didn't care. He knew that he had the clear advantage not only in skill but in size. He was a good size larger than the other.

"Oh wah, cry me a god-damned river." He replied sarcastically with a roll of his eyes. That was total bull. "Treat you like crap? How about you stop treating my sister and I like we're lower than dirt? We are people you know!" He shouted the rage inside of him building. Normally he was a very passive lion but the male before him, his so-called best friend, just knew all the wrong buttons to push.

"Bull s**t!" He growled moving right back into the male forcing him back and onto the ground. Next time it would be worse. "It's still my business because she's still suffering from it! She still doesn't say a single word." Suddenly his volume dropped and he was quiet for more than a second surprising the other. "Do you know how hard it is to watch her be like that?"

Suijin would never admit it but he was rather impressed with the way Akira was standing up to him. Normally the larger male was rather placid and timid, he usually stepped back in situations that involved conflict, even when it came to his sister. When did he start caring so much? "At least you finally have to appeared to have grown a backbone. Although I do wonder Akira. Why now?" He mused -almost- thoughtfully.

"You never gave a damn about what was said about her until now."

He pointed out the fact that he knew would cut deeply into the brighter colored male. He loved the fact that he knew what made this male tick and how he could use it to thoroughly drive a nail into his heart and rip it right back out. He was thrilled whenever he could cause someone discomfort or pain.

It was simply fun.

"When have I ever treated you poorly Akira?" Suijin asked incredibly calm considering he almost blew up just minutes before. "Until this day I have never once treated you poorly." He stated well aware of the fact he didn't deny that he had treated Kagami poorly. Oops. Not. "I do not deny the fact that you are in fact a living being, however if you speak rudely to me I can and will return the favor."

Then he was cursed at, again. His brows narrowed into a glare as he let out a very audible growl. "You think that I -don't- know how hard it is. I've lived with the ******** fact that I was the one that did that to her!" He shouted not caring if anyone was around to hear the argument. "Why do you give a s**t now? Huh? You never cared before!"

The purple female had been out walking searching for her brother, with whom she had met up with not too long ago. He often wandered off on his own but he never stayed away for too long. He had been gone for almost the whole day and Kagami was beginning to become worried. So to calm her worries she set out in the direction she had last seen him go.

Unfortunately for her she found him. He was in a fight. A fight with his best friend and her worst enemy. Her eyes widened and she immediately stumbled backwards falling on her butt as a result. It wasn't a loud fall but it was loud enough to gather their attention. Something she wished she never did.

She wasn't entirely sure what they were fighting about she could only gather that it was about her. How she longed to open her mouth and beg them to stop, to stop fighting, that whatever it was, it wasn't worth it. However she did nothing, she only sat there in terror.

Sure she had broken her promise in the past, once, but she would not let it happen again. Especially since she now had to cling so hard to it.

Akira would fix things...he always did.

Akira was about to yell at the b*****d once again with a flash of purple out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. He turned his head just in time to see her before he was smacked harshly on the side of his face. A grunt escaped his maw as he recoiled slamming into the ground. "You b*****d!" He growled pushing himself back to his feet.

Obviously Suijin hadn't noticed her yet. Good. If he could keep him distracted he wouldn't have to bring in his sister.

Suijin plus Kagami equaled bad news for her.

Suijin smirked as he danced backwards. "Better keep your attention focused on me and not something else. Could be the death of you." He taunted before his water-blue eyes flickered over to the area his ex-best friend had been looking. That was when he saw her and his breath caught in his throat.

"Kaga---"

He didn't get the chance to utter her name, instead he was rammed into harshly by the brightly colored male as he pinned him to the ground.

"Better keep your attention focused on me and not something else." Akira mocked a growl escaping his maw. "You will leave her alone damnit!" He shouted digging his elbow into the others' neck. He thought he was winning but he was so very, very wrong.

His was knocked breathless by the tackle but it didn't bother him, not one bit. Instead he grinned foolishly before bringing his hindlegs up and straight into the other males stomach.

"You're too easy to read."

Suijin stated with a head shake of disgust as he quickly swept himself back onto his paws. "Too easy to beat." As he uttered those words he lunged at the other effectively pinning him down with his maw against his neck, teeth scraping flesh ready to pierce it.

"Admit defeat and you can live. You and you're sister can leave with no harm. Today. Next time I won't be so kind." He stated eyes trained on the others features.

"You win." Akira replied completely giving up. He knew that he couldn't beat the cunning, always scheming male. Not yet.

"Leave before I change my mind." Suijin growled moving off of the other knowing he wouldn't attack. He had more honor than that.

Akira shook his head disappointed in the other before turning and racing towards his sister. "Let's get out of here." He whispered to her as she nuzzled him.

Kagami nodded and watching him as he started to walk away before letting her gaze drift back to her first love. I'm sorry. She thought to him before shaking her head and letting out an inaudible sigh. Good-bye Suijin. She whispered mentally, Good-bye forever.

With that she turned and trotted after her brother knowing they had to put as much distance between themselves and him as quickly as possible.

Once they had been such great friends. Why had everything changed.

Why had he pushed them all away?

She didn't know and she didn't think that she would ever know.
